This is my first time dealing with dhs. I'm in my late 40's, and always worked so I never thought I'd end up in this emergency situation. I went down there first time to drop off application - 3 hr wait. The girl didn't give me the correct forms to fill out, so I didn't have what was required for next apt. So, apt #2, I received the paperwork, but this woman gave me wrong information. Trip#3, dropped off pprwrk, explained the I had mail pieces that I didn't have yet & was still waiting on, but handed in Landlord & Employer sttmts. Was told nothing and was sent on my way. Trip#4, to check on my case. I was told I didn't drop off my Landlord statement (?!) I handed them in together how is this possible? So I gave her the copy the other lady made for me. When I asked her a question, she snapped her gum loudly in my face, ignored me, and kept turning and talking to her co-workers and carried on conversations while I'm standing there waiting. Finally, I asked if I was all set so I could get my food stamps for the month, she said "Yes. Once the paperwork finishes processing." Well,it's now been over a week that I've had no food & had to return bottles to buy tuna fish. It's a holiday weekend, nothing open, no food banks, food link, I have to wait until Tuesday. I am not a malicious person, but I can only hope that that gum smacking woman will someday walk a mile in my shoes. To have to be treated like an animal because of a temporary misfortune out of your control is inexcusable. I have a lot of work experience, and I know what I experienced there would never be tolerated for 5 minutes any place else. I've been paying their salaries for 30 yrs, and when I need help, which is their JOB, I get disrespect and total incompetence on every visit from my caseworkers. The place is set up like a jail. It's degrading and insulting. And just no care for women there with small children. I can honestly say it's one of the worst experiences of my life, and I've had some rough times.
