All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
I don't normally do reviews but I am compelled to write this one. I will admit that a first I was hesitant to have our Toyota Prius repaired at Sterling Autobody repair center. Especially since we have front end damage and the engine had to be removed for the repair. I considered sending the car to a Toyoto dealer since they are experienced with hybrids. But let me say I am not sorry in any way that the repair was done at Sterling. The repair was done with maticulous care.I was most impressed with the facility, the staff, and their expertise. I went on 2 occasions to witness the repairs and I was received with complete courtesy and reassurance that our car was progressing fabulously. I was relieved to know that our car was in expert hands and it removed any doubts that I had. The staff of Heather, Joe, Tim and Tina and others were exceptionally friendly and informative. Heather and Tina called me on a regular basis to inform us on the cars progress. I have never experienced that with any other collision center. We had a few issues with the car after we picked it up and when I called they allowed us to bring in the car that day. When I arrived they immediately took the car in and resolved the issue. By the way, the car now looks like showroom condition. Wow !!!! I can't say enough about the entire staff and professionalism they represent. I would highly recommend them for any car repair without hesitation. Keep up the good work and the rewards will come.
I've been to many car service shops and out of all of them I must say Lefebre's is my favorite. This is the FIRST car service shop that has been 100% honest with me. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I know when a shop lies to me or not. Most places will try and get you to pay for something thats "broken" or have it replaced when it never broken or in need of replacement. They are extremely straight forward and honest about everything. They are extremely generous and fair when it comes to prices and wont hassle you in anyway. I have been there only three times, four tomorrow, and every time they have been extremely generous with me. One visit I went there and it took them 15 minutes to fix the problem I had and they replaced two lug nuts on my tire. They only charged me for the 15 minutes, most places will charge you the flat-rate 1hour labor fee. They don't have a diagnosis fee, which is the first place I've ever known to do that. Overall, this shop is one of a kind, and I highly recommend it to EVERYONE. I recommend it to all of my friends and family, I would not choose any other auto service center. As their slogan says "Where our customers send their friends.", which is 100% true, I would not recommend any other shop.
My husband and I have owned 3 used cars in total since before we purchased our 4th at Royal Motor Sales. It was the best experience we have had when purchasing a vehicle. The CEO Mr. Brock is very committed to making his customers happy. His dedication was beyond unbelievable. We needed a vehicle in short order due to only have one at the time. He came out to US, showed us the car, we ran through the mechanics and the car was just perfect! He went an got the inspection right away for us and from the first moment we called to inquire about the car until we walked out with the keys... Was less than 48 hours. The price is very reasonable!! And you get a full tank of gas with purchase which is awesome. We couldn't be any happier with our purchase. This being our first SUV, we are very happy that we went with Royal motors because it made our change over smooth and we feel rewarded! Thank you Roy Brock! Great Job!
Finding honest local mechanics can be tough, and that's why you need to meet the guys at Tony's Culver Atlantic. They don't just tell you what needs to be done & what can wait ... they'll SHOW you ... AND offer you the old parts they replaced! I've been bringing our vehicles to them for over 15 years. Some of their reviews have it right, and a few others must be delusional or are flat-out lying. I would encourage anyone reading these reviews to find out for themselves! They have two coupons right on their home page ($10 off NYS Inspection & FREE tire rotation w/oil change) ... and it doesn't say you can't use them both at the same time. I live in Irondequoit (just a mile or so from the garage). My wife and I have an '08 Saturn Vue and a '98 Mercury Mountaineer. Thanks to these guys, I wouldn't have a worry in the world about driving either vehicle across the country and back.
Thank you for the time you spent helping me get a new car, I came unsure of what I wanted and you took the time to go over the different options and help me find the best car for me and I really appreciate that. I absolutely love the rouge!! I know you guys were very busy Tuesday night but you never made me feel rushed or pressured to make a decision I wouldn't be happy with. I appreciate you working with your manager to get the exact car and color I wanted for a price that was around where I wanted it to be. I'm sure it wasn't an easy task given the payments still due on my car and the information I was given online but you guys made it happen. This was by far the best car buying experience I have had, thanks again. I will be sure to tell everyone looking for a new car to come see you.
I have been a customer of Darryl’s Auto Shop for over three years. My first experience was when I brought my mother’s car in to have new brakes installed on her car. After Darryl’s Auto Shop told my mother that she did not need breaks for her car. They explained the other possibilities of what was causing the noise she was hearing. Now what they could have done was told my mother that they changed her breaks and charged her for the service. This would have been the result of most of the auto shops that she has done business with in the past. However, Darryl’s Auto Shop is HONEST, PROFESSIONAL, AND NEVER TAKES ADVATAGE OF PEOPLE FOR BUSINESS, THEY ADVERTISE THROUGH WORD OF MOUTH. NOW THAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF THEIR GOOD REPUTATION. M. It’s not often that I feel compelled to write a review or reach out to a business and express my thanks for a job well done, but Vision Dodge deserves just that. The service department was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and completed the work earlier than expected. When I arrived to pick it up, I walked through the sales department and was greeted by a friendly salesmen that was helpful with directing me to where I had to go. I’ve been to other dealerships where salesmen swarm you the minute you pull into the lot and try and sell you a car but that is not my experience here. I will definitely return to Vision Dodge for service of my vehicle and will talk to them when I am ready to buy a new car. Job well done.

East Ave Auto does a fantastic job all around. They have great customer service, they are honest, and always do a good job. I have an older car, and often I need things checked out or replaced. They were always straight forward about costs, and would tell me if I didn't necessarily have to have something replaced even if it would lose them money. They also are flexible, and are willing to take an extra second to answer any questions or just look at something and give their opinion. I really appreciate all the work they have done for me, and its a breath of fresh air compared to other auto place that often try to scam you.
Our experience at Vision Hyundai was amazing! I leased my 3rd Hyundai from this dealership (2013 loaded Santa Fe!) and my husband leased his first Hyundai (2012 Sonata Hybrid!). The salesmen and manager were so helpful and answered all of our questions. The dealership is very tidy and appealing on the inside and out. The salesman also showed us how to use all the gadgets in our new cars. He even hooked up our Bluetooth and got us started on our Blue Link accounts. We could not have been happier with our experience and we will absolutely come back here for our next cars when the leases are up!
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
