Pottery Barn began in 1949 as a single store in Lower Manhattan as a home furnishings marketer. The store s in-house designers draw their inspiration from models in America and throughout the world to create their collections. All of Pottery Barn's products are exclusive to the company s catalogs, Web site and stores. In January 1999, the firm launched Pottery Barn Kids, a collection of furnishings for babies and kids. The company has also recently added Pbteen, a new catalog with rugs, furniture, pillows, compact disc racks and other furnishings marketed for teens. Pottery Barn has locations throughout the United States, including its location in Providence, R.I.
