Not sure when one of the viewe...

Not sure when one of the viewers/visitors of the Byrd attended, but I have seen movies at the Byrd for years...practically every month. No noise, no hollering, no rowdy audience....so this customer must have been attending at a very special "teen-age' event....I can't imagine..

The BYRD IS A WONDERFUL, REASONABLY PRICED THEATRE. PLEASE TRY IT...YOU'LL LIKE IT!!

Gorgeous Theater, AWFUL Audiences

The Byrd Theater IS beautiful...gorgeous carpeting, amazing wall ornaments...you'll feel like you've stepped into a Renaissance Palace. It is also very cheap...only 2 bucks!!

However, it's definitely not a place you wanna go if you want to watch the movie in silence. The Byrd Theater always seem to attract the rudest, loudest audiences in Richmond. I guess it's to be expected since its low price and location is a beacon for college students but still... Be prepared for constant talking, murmuring, laughing at inappropriate moments, text messaging lights everywhere, etc. They have a very small crew so I guess they can't afford to hire ushers to walk down the theaters with flashlights enforcing silence and other usual theater behavior.

If you don't mind all that then the Byrd is the place to go but if you're like and hate rude, noisy theatermates then I would not go to the Byrd. They usually only have one or two showtimes at night so be prepared to arrive early because there's ALWAYS a massive line. You get there 5 minutes before your movie and you will miss the beginning.

I would only go to the Byrd for special occasions like Rocky Horror Picture Show or the French Film Festival.

Classy Movie Night

Step back into the 1920's when you go to this theater! The Byrd is a great place for a date. With the beautiful chandelier to the red carpet, you will feel like royalty walking in for a movie. The seats are a bit small but for a cheap movie ticket, you will get your money's worth. Great date night idea. Many great shops and eateries around so you can stop by those before hitting a movie. Do not expect new released movies to be at the byrd.

Awesome

I have never had a bad experience at the Byrd, I love everything about it, the atmostphere, the employees, and the way entering the place seems to take you back and make you forget about all that's going on outside, it's definantly a chance to escape into the past. And for those like me that are only 5'2"" the seating is miost comfortable.

Awesome atmosphere!

The Byrd is an awesome place to go for anyone looking to visit an ""old style"" movie theater. The lobby is incredibly crafted, the architecture is devine and the auditorium itself is so massive and filled with decor from the 20's and 30's. The seats are well worn, the sound system is antiquated, but the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable and that's what makes the Byrd all the worth while.

One of Richmond's Best

In the vast wasteland of Richmond's nightlife, The Byrd always, always offers something to do. Whilest driving around this godforsaken town looking for entertainment, the question 'Wanna go by the Byrd and see what's playing?' is a dependable Plan B. If not for the movie, then for the decor or at the very least the freaky kids that work there. Although the seats were probably installed in the 1920s when the average American was about 4'11"", the Byrd is one of my favorite places to hang out in this grand city of ours.
