I contracted Ameristar Roofing for roof repairs in November 2008 after Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area. I spent more than $10K and had my roof completely re-shingled and some decking replaced. In January 2011 I found my living room floor covered with water and water soaked my electronics inside the built in entertainment center. Upon inspection I found I had a roof leak which dripped into my wall and over my built in entertainment center; water had collected on top for the past two years until this day the entertainment center's top collapsed dumping all the water on my equipment. .



I called Ameristar to honor their warranty. Ameristar came out the next day and removed part of the roof's shingles and installed the flashing they forgot to install the first time. Ameristar said I was on my own for entertainment center repairs and damage of all my electronic equipment. The owner refuses to return calls and I have no choice but to sue him for damages.



My advice is to use another contractor. In my opinion their price was inflated, they used non-English speaking labor, and didn't honor their warranty.

I received a quote yesterday from this company for replace an estimated 20-25 shingles missing off of my room. I was first told that I should let this guy tarp 3/4 of my roof. This way the ins. co. would replace my entire roof because they wouldn't go to the trouble of ripping up the tarp and looking underneath it. I was told this would be at a cost of $400 but that the invoice would be writting for $1000 so I could give this invoice to my insurance company. I asked just for a quote to replace the missing shingles. I was quoted $1600. 15 minutes later a more reputable company came to give me an estimate for replacing the shingles. I was quoted a price of $300 but that if I would allow them to place a sign in my yard advertising their company, they would only charge me $150. As you can guess, I have a sign in my yard. Ameristar should be taken out of business. Shame on you Ameristar. I will pass this little bit of info. on to my insurance agent as well as the price gouging hotline.
