Tips & Advice
How much do new window treatments cost?
The cost of new window treatment varies according to the material, the style the size of the windows, and how many windows need window treatments. The average cost of window treatments is $200-$500 including installation, but you can get inexpensive ones for less, or pay more than $2,000 for high-end window treatments.
There are many ways to clean blinds, but consensus is that blinds should be lowered all the way down, and dusted on both sides of the slats (with a dust cloth, feather duster or vacuum brush attachment). Then, gently spot-clean any soiled areas with a damp cloth and a tiny drop of soap. Only vinyl and metal blinds should be heavily wetted down, either with a hose or faucet. This will ruin other materials.
A solar shade is a window shade made with special fabric that is designed to block and reduce glare and infrared heat, but allow in light and preserve some sort of view. The amount of sunlight allowed in and the visibility through the blind depends on its “openness” level--determined by the tightness of the fabric’s weave.
A window shade is an opaque fabric (AKA cloth) mounted on a roller, that can be lifted up to allow in outside light and visibility, or rolled down to obscure light and visibility.
Types of window treatments
The most common window treatments which cover entire windows are blinds, curtains (interchangeable with drapes), shades and shutters. Valances, cornices, swags and cascades are decorative window treatments that only fit over a portion of the window.
What is the difference between power and pressure washing?
Both power washing and pressure washing are used to clean and strip surfaces. The difference between power and pressure is that power washing uses hot water, and pressure washing uses cold water.
How often do pressure-washer nozzles need to be replaced?
Pressure-washer nozzles need to be replaced when they wear out. When the spray-fan angle (the width and range of the water spray) becomes compromised or reduced by wear and tear or damage, it is time to change it out. If the nozzle is clogged, a simple cleaning may work. Know that nozzles come with a variety of spray-fan angles, so you may need to switch it out if the job calls for a different spray fan.
How much do pressure washers cost?
Electric pressure washers can start as low as $99, or less if you find a good sale. Gas-powered pressure washers can start around $250. When shopping for a pressure washer, know your needs, such as hot vs. cold water, general purpose vs. industrial, heavy duty vs. light duty. These will affect your price point.
Can hot water be used for pressure washing?
Hot water can more effectively cut through grease and grime than cold water, but it can only be used in pressure washers specifically designed for hot water use. Units not designed for hot water can be damaged, as they are not equipped to handle the heat. They are also more expensive than cold water washers.
What is the best way to store a pressure washer?
When not in use for 30 days or longer, it is imperative to store your pressure washer accordingly to prevent freezing and/or internal oxidation, both of which can destroy your washer. The first step is to turn off or close the fuel line, then run the engine to clear the line and carburetor of fuel. Add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank if it still contains fuel. Next, connect a hose to the inlet of the pump and fill the hose with straight antifreeze (do not use a 50-percent mix). Run the unit until antifreeze comes out of the outlet (where the pressure hose would be attached). Your pressure washer is now winterized and/or ready for storage.
