No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
The search for an honest mechanic is over. Finally I have found an auto repair place with honest automotive technicians. As a woman and a car owner for over 45 years, I have been ripped off by numerous mechanics all over America. At Val Halla Automotive Service, I receive quality service at a reasonable price. They have never tacked on additional costs and, rather than suggesting repairs, Dan Olsen just tells me what he can do and lets me decide. They do a great job, right the first time, and usually it was done expeditiously. Dan runs a honest business (his dad was an honest logger) and he is always concerned about his customers needs. I simply would not go anywhere else to have my PT Cruiser serviced.Val Halla's not much to look at - a one chair waiting room and a framed photo of Clark Gable, circa 1940 on the wall - because Dan and his crew care more about cars than decor. Dan has always been honest about what needs to be done, what could wait until later, and he has given me a fair price. After stopping in just once looking for a place that would service my 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, I left feeling that my car was in great hands, and I wasn't disappointed. Overall, Val Halla provides high quality service for a reasonable price. And they're really nice too. For those reasons, I will continue to bring all of my car repair business to them.“An auto repair facility you can trust.” I never thought I would utter that phrase. What I love most about Val Halla is that I can trust them. They don't "sell" parts, in fact, with my older vehicle, there are times when Dan has advised me to skip a repair because it’s too expensive. I have always been kept informed during the course of repairs and have always been happy with their service. It's nice to know that there is an auto repair business on Gentry Way in Reno that provides honest service. His technicians are all highly qualified; they know what they are doing. If you love your car, it's in good hands here!If you want it done right the first time, Val Halla is your place. I had an air conditioning problem with my car and spoke to three local repair shops. I said I wanted a Freon recharge but wanted NO air conditioning check. (That’s because I have a failed $500 fan and I can’t afford the repair.) One place quoted me $125, the other quote was $135, and Val Hall quoted me $40. (It ended up costing $40.15 but Dan blew off the 15-cents.) Val Halla diagnosed the problem quickly, did the repairs for exactly what I was quoted (pus 15 cents) and I am now able to drive around Reno with blessed air! Great Service. When the Chrysler dealership closed its doors, I was very pleased to learn that Val Halla had a mechanic whose family owns three PT Cruisers. I am a female who drives a lot. I need reliable transportation and can't afford to have my car tied up for long periods of time. Dan Olsen is an honest businessman who treats his customers well. I would not go anywhere else as I have found a gem in Val Halla Auto Repair.
I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!No matter what problem or any questions I'm having they always fix it for me and go above and beyond to make me happy! When I first went in I was a first time buyer with barley any credit to start off with. They understood and worked really well with me and what I could afford. I told them how high I wanted to go on the price and told them exactly the car I wanted and test drove it a couple times to make sure I was 100% happy and wasn't going to regret it later down the road! WILLY IS MY FAVORITE!!!! He helped me soo much being a first time buyer with like no credit at all! Another thing I love about this place is being able to get my oil changes/ tires rotated for free for up to two years. Being a broke college kid at the time this really helped me out a lot!! Also trading in my clunker car that I was driving before helped the entire car price go down by $3000. Just recently went in with my boyfriend to get him a new car as well. (He is also a new time buyer and has no credit.) They brought the price down, brought the monthly payments down, let us trade in his car which completely broke down the week before, and also let us make payments on the down payment which was AMAZING OF THEM TO DO!!!This dealership is seriously my ALL TIME FAVORITE!!! I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking to purchase a new car that's a first time buyer or not!! They will work with you on everything and if your not comfortable with something then all you have to do is tell them and they will make it comfortable for you! Thank you Mike, Willy and Omar for making it safe and reliable for me and my boyfriend for being able to make it to work and home safely! :) By the way he will not stop telling me how much he LOVES his baby!!! (car)As his Girlfriend him being happy is me being happy and not having to take to him to work at 4 in the morning makes me a VERY happy girlfriend!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU GUYS HAVE DONE FOR US!!!
SHORT SUMMARY FOR THOSE THAT DONT WANNA READ ALOT:Awesome dealership straight forward and nice. These guys know what they are doing! if you want more of my experience keep reading! AWESOME DEALER!!! i want to share my experience with these guys! First time we went in we told the guys what we were looking for in the price range we were looking at. The Manager Ken showed us what he had in that price range and was very straight forward as to what the issues were with the vehicle he showed us (Cheap cars dont come perfect expect a little work!) Anyways we left for the day....A few days later we had more time to come and look to see what new came in. To our suprise the lot was FULL and had many new items in our price range! We found the vehicle we were looking for so we asked to go for a drive after inspecting the engine (CLEAN AS HECK NO LEAKS) and the interior (ALSO CLEAN) . Ken handed us the keys and off we went without any one from the dealership with us so that we can discuss everything and test everything. This was great as we HATE dealers that come and make you take a short route and dont get to test it out! we discovered that it was a great truck.Next came the negotiation process. We came up with a price after talking for 3 mins. No redicilous 4 square bs that the other dealerships give you or runaround. We paid cash and walked out of there with a new truck within 45 mins! Ken the manager was amazingly nice and straightforward! The other guy (Didn't catch his name unfortunately ) was really nice too and helpful. The whole experience was amazing! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHECKING THIS PLACE OUT. GREAT DEALS GREAT PEOPLE. BUY FROM THEM!!!
My wife and I were visiting Reno for a few days, from San Jose. On day 3 of our trip, the starter went out on my GMC Envoy and I was stranded in a casino parking lot. On the recommendation of our cabbie that night, I had the car towed the next morning to Deano's and told them we were planning to drive back home that day and hoped it could be fixed in time. I then asked for the number of a cab company so I could get a ride back to the hotel. The young man who helped me (Dusty), promptly said he'd give me a ride... really?? I gratefully accepted. When he dropped me off, he said he would call after lunch and give me an update.Sure enough, just about 1pm I received a call from the shop. I was a little anxious about what Dusty was going to say. To my pleasant surprise he said the car was finished! He then said to meet him at the valet entry with our bags as he was coming to pick us up! Again...REALLY??? We went back to the shop, paid what I thought was a very fair bill and we were on our way home.I was truly amazed at the extra care and concern we recieved. They all went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. This is truly a rare quality found in the auto repair business today. I will make sure that all those I know who are traveling to Reno are aware of this family owned business, if they are ever in need of an auto repair. Special kudos to Dusty, who was our personal chauffer:) A bad day was brightened by your kind acts.
I went to this dealership about a week ago. My expectations were not very high after reading the reviews on the place however their selection of used cars was extensive so I thought I'd take a look. I was approached by a young salesman who after talking to him didn't know a whole lot about the cars or incentives however he introduced me to his sales manager zach. After meeting zach and talking to him briefly I immediately knew he was very educated on finance and knew alot about all the vehicles I was interested in. After settling on a car he told me he wouldn't waste my time and if he couldn't make me a deal I would feel 100% good about we'd shake hands and try again in the future. Zach came out with the numbers on the car and they were almost exactly what he thought they'd be. He explained everything in detail about the financing, pricing value trade in and payment options. Needless to say after this type of information I felt comfortable enough to move forward and buy the car and I'm so happy I did. The next day I had additional questions about my contract so I called in. When I asked for Zach he answered the phone and said charles, good morning if your unhappy tell me now cause I won't have you driving around in my cars unhappy. What a welcome way to greet someone that was apprehensive about buying in the first place. Highly recommend and I'll be back again for sure. Be sure to ask for Zach he is amazing and you'll be glad you did!
I had 4 old tires on my car from Les Schawb. Les Schawb is a great tire store but I didn't have the money at the time to replace all the tires. I had 3 decent tires and one worn tire that was about to blow and was a safety hazzard. So I checked around and the best deal around was at Ray's Tire exchange. For less than $50.00, I could get one used tire installed and balanced on my car. So I went for that deal. The problem was that they accidently installed the wrong size tire. The tire was the same rim size but it was larger in circumferance than the rest of the tires I had on the car. If you do that on a drive wheel you can mess up your transmission or differential. Luckly it was not on a drive wheel. I went back the next day anyway and asked for an exchange. They gave me some hassel for a while and suggested that I had come in with a different tire than the one they had installed yesterday. I explained that it was no big deal and I just wanted to exchange the tire for one that is the same size as the rest of the tires on my car. Eventually they did exchange the wrong sized tire for one that was the right size, although they did it kind of reluctantly. So my advice is if your looking for a cheap tire inbetween full replacements, try Ray's tire. Keep an eye on them though. Inspect the tire before they put it on and make sure that it is the right size and a tire that will work for you. It will save you hassel later.
Found myself needing a car fast. I did not have a huge down payment at all, most places this would have been a problem but not here. There is really no haggle on the price, only downfall. They offer a warranty with their financing which seems pretty good. They promptly fixed the chips in the windshield the day I took the car home, Two days later they covered the battery the car needed for free even though it didn't come covered in the warranty. Automatic payments make it easy for me, I like the overall structure of the plans they have. They have plenty of cars to choose from on their lot though and I found something perfect for me that meets my needs. I have had the car 10 days and so far so good. Solid car, and I have piece of mind with the warranty. The only reason they did not get 5 stars from me is there is really no haggle room with pricing, a little high, and they are ruthless when you try. They have called me a few times to check up on me and see how the car is. customer service is good even after the sale which is amazing. Will update this as needed, as I have an ongoing relationship with them.
I went to the dealership looking for an electric Focus which I ended up buying for a great deal, unfortunately, the vehicle wasn't what I really needed as I travel to my job over 200 miles. In Nevada there is no cooling off period for purchasing a vehicle, so I thought I was stuck for the time being. I reached out to the folks at the dealership, and they completely understood my plight, and went to work right away with helping me get into something that would work for my needs. Not only did they get me a newer vehicle, but they were able to lower my interest rate and make an even better deal for all parties involved! They went way above and beyond to make sure everyone was not only satisfied, but happy with the decision to do business with them! I highly recommend you check out this dealership for your vehicle purchasing needs and ask for Jose as he is down to earth and ready to help on all matters! A+ service and you get 2 years of free services like oil changes. Thank you Internet Auto Sales of Reno for making my buying experience a great experience!
I bought a car at Jones West Ford a couple months ago (from Josh, who was great) & it was by far the best auto buying experience I've ever had. I felt the people were very honest & fair. They were kind & not smarmy. I'd really researched the car I was going to buy & I looked at several other lots. I was looking for a 2014 or 2015. JWF offered the best deal & the cleanest car. (Seriously, I looked at 3 cars at a "large lot" dealer in town and TWO of those vehicles had body damage that had been painted over! Crazy.) The transaction at JWF was smooth & included an undercoating. They confirmed the appointment with emails & the day before they called to confirm & ask if I was going to need a ride from the courtesy shuttle. When I got there to drop off my car Jason came right out to greet me by name. They called just as soon as my car was ready & pickup was just as fast, with Jason taking me through every step then driving my car right to me.
We had a transmission problem with my son's truck and were advised by our mechanic to sell it. We had only one day to find something. After stopping at all of the dealerships on Kietzke Lane, we decided to try way south on Virginia St. Friendly is a small lot but they had a couple of trucks that we liked. It seemed to be a one man operation and Dragos, the owner, was friendly, knowledgeable, with no high pressure tactics. We test drove the one that we liked. Dragos is soft spoken and to the point. He spent just a few minutes inspecting and then driving our truck; without losing our keys. Dragos was fair and we were quickly able to come to an agreement. There was none of the typical tag teaming or going back and forth to speak with the manager. For a car purchase with a trade in, it was about as painless as it gets. To answer the old question of "Would you buy a used car from this man?"; we did and would do so again in the future. Richard R.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
