On Maggie's first day, she was a little shy and sat down a lot - preventing the time honored dog greeting of butt sniffing. She probably was also picking up on our anxiety - my husband was going in for an angioplasty. We live in Gardnerville and I wanted to stay in Reno while hubby was in the hospital. When I called to check on her, they told me she was very cuddly with the staff and doing just fine. When I came to pick her up, she was asleep in the arms of the attendant! I was grateful to know that she needed some extra love and she got that. The next day, she was excited to go back. We give Pet Playhouse four paws up and some serious tail wagging!! The facility was clean and well-organized and the staff seems to enjoy what they do.

We took out pets to the Pet Playhouse last week while we were on vacation. They were there for 6 days. When we picked our dogs up this week we noticed our older dog was acting funny. We thought maybe he was just really tired. He slept most of that day and the next morning we knew something was wrong. We took him into the vet that day because he was hardly lifting his head, not eating and very lethargic. Turns out he had a very high fever and a bad infection in his front leg. They told us he was having trouble on the stairs the last few days, which was weird to us because we live in a two story and he climbs stairs everyday. By the way they never mentioned that his suite was upstairs knowing that he was a senior dog and it was our first time there that should've been something that was mentioned. Anyways the vet said that it was obviously something that happened while staying at their resort. She said it was more than likely from a spider bite or the callus on his elbow was infected by laying on unsanitary ground. He was a very sick dog. I called the manager the day he was going to the vet to see if they noticed anything and they said no, only that he had trouble with the stairs. That's crazy to me because he was obviously very out of it and lethargic. I finally got a call back a few days later after calling again from the manager. She said she was sorry and they felt bad. That next time they will look closer and not just assume it was old age as the reason he was having trouble on the stairs. They didn't offer us any kind of compensation for their stay, any help with the large vet bill or anything but a sorry but next time we will pay better attention. Needless to say we will never be taking our pets their again and I would encourage people to look into another boarding facility for their pets. It doesn't seem like this place really cares about the pets. More about the money they are getting.
I took my small poodles to several groomers over the years and in my opinion Alice's Pet Parlor is one of the best grooming places around. My poodles look perfect every time we go to Alice's Pet Parlor and I highly recommend them.1) very clean, quality cut (no longer hair patches needing to be trimmed at home later. owners of long- / curly-haired dogs know this). 2) really listen to the requests - I like different looks on my 2 poodles and with other groomers I had to take on different days to avoid same look and still not as requested (nothing special - short nails, short ears and a little "mustache" on one dog). 3) people there are very nice and take a good care of pets. (some groomers made my dogs very nervous, with shaking and whining, had cuts a few times) .
Called when they opened stating our dog was throwing up blood. They replied they could not see him as an emergency. Careless and heartless. I'd have paid whatever to help my dog, these people are a joke
The groomer my Papillon went to for 10 years retired, and I was looking for someone. After a couple of tries, I found Alice's Pet Parlor. Great location for me, and they did exactly what I asked and where quick. I would highly recommend.
Love you all. I would recommend this pet store to any an everyone.
My first time visiting this neighborhood store was to support local businesses. Unfortunately my first impression was not as pleasant as I hoped it to be. I found the specific product I was looking for with a price tag of $5.99 on it but when I took it to the register it rang at $9.99. When I insisted that it wasn't the correct price on the package the nice clerk called a manager (owner?) who at the time was on the phone and seemed more annoyed at my questioning than anything. The manager finally gets off the phone by sighing to the person on the other end of the phone just to come tell me 'I can't do that because I will be taking a loss, it was totally our bad but there is nothing I can do" with a smirk/ smile on her face. I proceeded to inform her that other stores usually honor the price if it's "their bad", but she stood firm on her decision and I ended up paying the higher price. The young lady at the register was nice and I could tell was embarrassed by the whole ordeal. I will never go back to this store and I will tell all of my family and friends about what happened to me. All of this for $4 bucks. I hope next time you are more friendly and take better measures to resolve a simple situation. Take care,J

If I could give this place 0 stars then I would. We purchased our Golden Retriever puppy, Ruger, from here back in January. When we picked him up he was checked out by their "vet" and he had a clean bill of health. A few days after we took him home I took him to my own vet for his first check up. It was then that we found out that he had a heart murmur. How did their vet miss this a few days earlier? We contacted them and they said there was nothing that they could do. Ruger is now 9 months old and has been limping very bad. Took him back to our vet and discovered he has a hereditary disease called Osteochondritis Dissecans. Which can only be corrected with extensive surgery. After thousands of dollars to correct it he seems to be doing better, but we will never know if the problem will come back. My problem with this company is that they should do a better job researching who the breeders are that they are getting their puppies from. I understand that there are some things that are out of their control, but my poor pup has to live with problem after problem. I will be forever grateful that this little boy has come into our lives, as he is part of our family. I just wish this company would do a better job at insuring their puppies are healthy.
