Money is everything

I first went to Healthy Smiles on Double R Blvd in Reno with a dental emergency about nine months ago. I told the dentist which tooth I had problems with and that it had been the source of chronic pain for more than a year. Instead of dealing with that tooth at the time, he recommended having an adjacent wisdom tooth removed, to better assess the situation, which I did have done. After that, instead of treating the problem tooth I came in about, which was still giving me discomfort (he said it looked OK now) they began a program of redoing "old poorly done work" that did not bother me according to how much coverage I had left on my insurance. Treatment was not based so much on what my immediate dental needs were as it was based on how much coverage I had left on my insurance to pay for it. I had more contact with the business manager about payment than with the dentist on treatment. Not only that, but they spent out my total annual coverage six months before the year was over, such that when I DID have another dental emergency (an infection in the SAME TOOTH I ORIGINALLY COMPLAINED ABOUT!!!) there was no insurance left to pay for it and I have now to defer treatment and root canal work until the next fiscal year when I can pay for it and HOPEFULLY not get another infection in the bad tooth in the meantime. I even asked if they could possibly please start the root canal work now but bill it after July 1st when my insurance coverage starts again, but they said no that is not their policy. Basically - they don't care if I have a painful dental problem that needs immediate attention - they only care about the money. But it is a BEAUTIFULLY appointed and decorated office and they give you hot paraffin treatment for your hands and warm towels while you are worked on, and free beverages while waiting......if that's what you are looking for in a dentist by all means, go see them.
