Macular Degeneration
One of the leading causes of vision loss in the United States is age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The progressive condition involves the breakdown of the macula, or the portion of the retina that we need for clear central vision.
Laser Eye Surgery
The biggest risk factor for macular pucker is age. Adults over the age of 60 are most likely to get macular puckers. Sometimes macular pucker is associated with traumatic eye injury, previous eye surgery or problems with the blood vessels in the retina.
Cataracts
Dr. Tellez also specializes in small incision, no-stitch, no patch cataract and intraocular lens implant (IOL) surgery. He uses the latest technologies, such as presbyopia-correcting implants to eliminate the need for reading glasses and bifocals, as well as toric implants to correct astigmatism.
Cataract Surgery
To treat cataracts, surgeons remove the natural lens and replace it with an artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL) which is determined preoperatively. To reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses after cataract surgery, patients need to choose a lens implant that is designed to address refractive errors and help patients see at near, far and intermediate distances. Some Advanced Technology Lenses even have the capability of correcting astigmatism as well as distance, middle, and near vision to give the patient the clearest vision.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Tellez received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City. He served his internship in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New Hyde Park, New York, where he served as chief resident. He completed additional specialty fellowship training in glaucoma at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, Georgia, which is consistently ranked among the best ophthalmology training programs by U.S. News & World Report.

Multiple Sclerosis
® VEP tests use a technology called Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) to objectively measure the functional responses of the entire visual pathway from the anterior segment of the eye to the visual cortex. Your Berks Eye doctor may order this test to diagnose vision and optic nerve disorders such as optic neuritis in multiple sclerosis (MS) and amblyopia.
