This bar has transformed into the place to be on a weekend in Downtown Raleigh! The bar is located right in the middle of Glenwood South and the scene is about early- late 20's, with a large college and young professional crowd. DTSB is half sport's bar, half night club with great DJ's, a packed dance floor, TV's (with the game on) and pool tables. It's a great place to go if you have a co-ed group because no one will feel out of place. The only negative comment I have for this bar is that there is sometimes a line to get in on a Friday or Saturday night, but the doorman is always great about getting you in the minute someone else leaves and since the place is packed on weekend nights it can be really difficult to get a drink. It would be great if they added a few more bartenders to their staff! However, I think the fun atmosphere still makes Downtown Sport's Bar well worth 5+ stars! Something important to note, the bouncers here are by far the best in downtown! They do their job well, and one time when my friend had a bit too much to drink they were kind enough to get a cab for her and make sure she was safe... I have seen people at places like The Hive get thrown out onto the street and told to get away from the front of the establishment. One of the DTSB DJ's even once delievered a cell phone at the end of the night after my neighbor lost it on the dance floor. Their fun, laid back, atmosphere and commitment to their patrons makes this bar my favorite place to be! I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are looking to have an awesome night in Raleigh!

If I could give this place a zero I would. I went to Stool Pigeons a few years ago and it was nothing special but now that it is Downtown Sports Bar & Grill this is BARNONE the WORST BAR IN RALEIGH! I recently came here with friends and I will never be coming back. It took almost 10 minutes to get a bartender's attention -half of the bartenders were just standing along the wall looking out at the crowd! He finally came, got my drinks and disappeared. I wanted a cherry in my drink and instead of waiting a million years I grabbed one from the counter. Amazingly, 2 of the female bartenders suddenly noticed me and started yelling and cursing (using the f word) at me.
Call me crazy but I wasn't drunk or unruly. I did not yell or curse back at anyone. I've worked in kitchens and restaurants (including Sullivans down the street) and that would never have been tolerated. I would have gotten fired! I decided to contact the manager to let him know. I completely acknowledged my mistake in taking the cherry but that I was shocked by the reaction from his staff. The manager just starts going on about me causing a food code violation and tells me that ""that was how things work"" here, then proceeded to curse (use the f word) at ME and threatened to throw me out. I'm pretty sure I wash my hands more than anyone working there and I know a thing or 2 about food safety & inspections -I actually have a master's degree & certifications related to food safety and I can tell you that my hands on a cherry stem is the least of their worries. I have never ever been spoken to like that, particularly by a large grown man. I literally walk up to him and calmly tell him a situation to give him some feedback and he starts threatening me like I'm a person causing a fight or something. I was actually scared by his behavior. It's sad when the entire staff (management down) think it's acceptable to curse at people as the first method of communication with customers. It just encourages more trashy, unpleasant people to an already bad environment. The people who work here are total trash. My drinks were expensive and tasted bad anyway. There is literally no good reason to go here. If I'm gonna go to a crappy, dirty bar it should at least be fun and upbeat (and cheap). You'd get better drinks and service in a city dump. If you want to have a nice night out in Raleigh, go ANYWHERE BUT HERE.

I went to Stool Pigeons one night last year around Christmas time. I was in town visiting my sister, and we went out for her friend's birthday with a group of girls, all of whom are empoloyed at UNC and registered nurses. In other words, we were out for a good time, but not a rowdy, annoying bunch. We're professional women. In the spirit of Christmas, all the cocktail waitresses were dressed as promiscuous christmas elves or reindeer etc. It would have been cute if their attitudes were better. Our elf cocktail waitress was the rudest little thing; we couldn't beleive she was actually working a job in which her income depended upon her personality. She told several guys at the next table over that we were all ""B**ches"", and the guys told us. (we're a social group... we talk to everyone around when we go out.) Keep in mind that we had not said one rude or inappropriate word to this girl. We complained to her manager, who supposedly spoke to her, but later in the night, she was still being entirely rude. Soon, a bouncer came up to us and told us we would have to leave. The girl had complained about OUR behavior to her manager. Despite the fact that we had already gotten to him first, and the bouncer even agreed, ""yeah everyone hates that girl, she needs to be fired,"" this manager STILL took our word second to a girl's who wasn't even close to doing her job. Every one of our group has worked in the food service industry, would NEVER be overtly rude to a server, and now are graduated professionals. My sister and her friends also work at a hospital. If you're a manager or a rude little elf at Stool Pigeons, you may want to avoid UNC for emergencies... They don't forget. haha... just kidding but, if you're reading this far DO NOT PATRON STOOL PIGEONS!!! You will most likely not have a good experience.

I went to catch a basketball game during tourney time at about 2pm. I asked the manager who's in control of the television's to find the Ky-Miss St game on ESPN Full Court. I was told by the manager, Travis, that they didn't carry the game. I expressed dismay that any sports bar didn't carry FC, especially one that I knew from previous experience actually did, he reluctantly went back again. He came back to tell me that he could only find a Ky game which was played the previous night. When I pointed this out, Travis went back to check and found it. Finally I got the game on the TV I was actually watching. I have to admit that I wondered if he understood how to use his equipment as a manager. So far so good until the game got to the last 7 seconds of a close game. The TV switched to the game that was playing on the other TV's. When I begged Travis to turn it back, I was told no, that someone must have been ""fooling with the TV's"", and it wasn't his fault. At no time did he offer to change it back or to check in the back. I only got a weak sorry. I paid my bill and left.
Across the street at a coffee shop. I checked for the final score to find that the game went into overtime! I went back across the street to find Travis. I explained that the game had gone into overtime. He said that he didn't change it and it wasn't his fault. I explained that it went into overtime. He asked if I wanted it changed back to the game! I said yes. I asked if he understood why I was upset. He said that it wasn't his fault and he couldn't help me! I was dumbfounded. Please understand that I was never rude though upset.
He never offered to change it back to the game! I left SP's without seeing the end of the game, the overtime, or ever having the MANAGER offer to help get the game back on for me. All I could ever get out of Travis was that it wasn't his fault, he didn't change it, and he couldn't help me. Needless to say, I can not recommend this bar under any circumstances.

Stoolie's is okay, but it's not my cup of tea. . . .I prefer less packed, non-meat market bars where I can actually get up to the bar reasonably easily. . . . I guess good for them . . .they're busy
I think I need to try them again, but on a weeknight this time . . .

I was completely pleased with my time at Stool Pigeons. We arrived on a Saturday night about midnight and the place was hopping. Fortunately, there was beer and shots being sold in the foyer while we waited so I could get my drink on. Every TV was playing recent videos and the music was hot! The temperature was too, but tolerable. The bartenders and servers were all attractive and pleasant to me and my friends. The best thing was that everyone, staff and customers, seemed to know everyone else. Apparently Stool Pigeons is a place that sees a lot of return business. There were excellent drink specials which vary throughout the week. All in all an enjoyable time. I will most definitely return.

GOT THERE ABOUT 11:30PM ON A SATURDAY AND HAD TO WAIT ON LINE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. lUCKILY THEY HAD A GIRL SELLING JAEGER SHOTS AND LONGNECKS ON THE LINE(ONCE WE WERE INDOORS). THE PLACE WAS SERIOUSLY CROWDED, BUT NOT THAT HOT OR HUMID. SERVICE WAS PRETTY GOOD, AND i DIDN'T HAVE TO WRESTLE MY WAY TO THE BAR OR FIGHT TO GET A BARTENDERS ATTENTION. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS PLACE IS A LACK OR ORIGINALITY-NOTHING IS UNIQUE EXCEPT THE LADIES THAT GO AROUND SELLING SHOTS IN PLASTIC TEST TUBES. ATMOSPHERE IS CASUAL BUT COOL, AND THERE ARE POOLTABLES AND VIDEOGAMES AS WELL AS TV'S EVERYWHERE TO KEEP YOU BUSY. NOT A MUST-SEE PLACE BUT I'D DEFINITELY GO BACK.

I was not very impressed with this place at all. When I first arrived I thought that I had walked into another Jack Astor's. The staff is very friendly, and the prices are on par with the rest of Glenwood. Even so, this restaurant/bar lacks the power to wow. The food is, at best, mediocre. Everything tastes like it was frozen and then microwaved, and made with way too much salt.
I can't see this place surviving. It lacks individuality, and the ability to keep customers coming back. I know I won't be returning.
