My wife has decided to change careers and go back to school, so we have just start to discover University City (we moved to Center City 4 years ago). For her first week, I decided to take her to Distrito mostly because we are Chef Jose Garces fans (Amada and Tinto). I have to say the location décor is like blend of Continnetal and El Vez. It’s a fun place but is border line in the too much and exuberant decoration. We had the Tacos Carnitas, Queso Fundido, Ceviche de Camarones, Platanos con Crema, and the Chilango. Food quality and the all ingredients used are top notch, great taste. Overall: the food is great. Service is terrific and our waitress was sweet, no rush, and very professional. But the food portions are ridiculous small. I know the concept is similar to a tapas place and I am a big fan of Amada (despite their prices will make any Spaniard to cry) and I visit Barcelona twice a year for business so I eat a lot of tapas. I have to say their portions are by far smallest tapas or dishes I have seen in a while. Margaritas are good and even the dessert (we had the flan) was great. However, the flan was so small that we barely felt we had any. Just work in the portions especially you are located in University City. We paid around $85 and we were ok because I am used to Amada and Center City prices, but I am not sure students would be able to catch up if the portion is so small.
Las Bugambilias has the best margaritas! I love good tequila, have worked in a Mexican restaurant for years, and loved it! The food was great with huge portions. Very authentic. The homemade chips and guacamole were wonderful! The service was attentive, and the food came out quickly. It is a small place with a relaxed atmosphere. I've heard the executive chef worked for many years at Tequilas. It's definitely worth a trip!
We LOVE Paloma! The food is outstanding and the service is top-notch! From start -to- finish our meal was perfect. We'll definitely be back. Note: With their new location (763 S. 8th st.), Make sure to arrive 15 minutes early to find suitable (free) street parking -or- (free) Municipal lots. There's also a paid lot $13 on 7th street, that also takes Credit Cards.
Las Margaritas is a very good mexican resturant with great portion sizes.( Very Afforadble) Also it has a great bar and the bar tender Anthony is nickname "Speedy Gonzalez. The Happy hour is at five great for when you get off work. Margaritas are only Three twenty five! Go there with great friends and family and have agreat time!
I have been here many times now & have never been slightly disappointed. The best all around mexican restaurant in the Philadelphia area. From cocktails for the adults to children being welcome this is a wonderful atmosphere. Sombreros off to the owner for bringing such a delightful place to the northeast. Thank you & see you soon.
The first time that i ate at Las Margaritas was not the last time. Las Margaritas has the best mexican food that i have had. I just hope you have a little extra money in your pocket. it has soft music playing which gets you in the mood. the margaritas are just as good. It also has a very friendly people working there.
Please order "tacos al pastor" and enjoy them with this pink sauce that comes from heaven. I love mexican food, not texmex, and this rest is by far one the best in the city. It is a small place and sometimes "to-go" orders are delivered first, but the wait is worth it.
Great food and drinks. A little too pricey though. $20 for 4 fish tacos? Turns into a great bar late at night. If they could reduce prices, this place would be awesome. But only for those special occasions now.
A relative suggested that I go and just try it out, so I did. I instantly fell in love with the steak tacos and three cheese nachos.
This is nice little quiet place if want to get away from big crowded place seating is limited the food is good and cheap enjoy
