Behavioral Counseling
We strive to maintain a safe & clean environment for everyone, while stressing the importance of AVSAB recommended positive puppy socialization between the age of 8-16 weeks as well as a behavior modification program for more serious concerns. For this reason, we do REQUIRE the following for all dogs in classes: GROUP CLASSES: Dogs up to 16 weeks: age-appropriate veterinarian administered vaccinations for distemper, rabies(12 weeks), and bordetella. Vx history provided as the puppy receives their series of vaccinations. Dogs 17 weeks – adult: current on veterinarian administered distemper, rabies, and bordetella. PRIVATE CLASSES: Dogs up to 16 weeks: age-appropriate veterinarian administered vaccinations for distemper, rabies(12 weeks), and bordetella. Vx history provided as the puppy receives their series of vaccinations. Dogs 17 weeks – adult: current on veterinarian administered distemper, rabies, and bordetella.
Nutritional Counseling
Too much fat can lead to weight gain but certain fats are essential for life. Essential fatty acids are fats the body cannot make and must be included in the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are mainly found in fish and should be supplemented in the diet to ensure adequate levels. Medium chain triglycerides, such as coconut oil, are also a great addition to a dog’s diet.
Comprehensive Examination
Pre-operative exams and bloodwork. All pets receive a thorough physical examination and pre-operative bloodwork several days prior to a major surgery. With the possible exception of cat neuters, all other surgeries are considered major. Our efforts prior to surgery, allow us to make the anesthesia and surgery as safe as possible. Our comprehensive physical exam costs $62 and our standard pre-operative bloodwork costs $65! At this visit we will explain how you should prepare your pet for surgery and discuss such things as withholding food, incision care, exercise instructions and bandage changes if necessary. In some cases, we will encourage you to get your pet fitted with an Elizabethan collar so they can get used to it prior to the day of surgery.

Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Today, in-clinic titer test kits for canine distemper (CDV), canine parvovirus (CPV), canine adenovirus (CAV), and feline parvovirus (panleukopenia, FPV) correlate well with appropriate gold standard tests. Therefore, when these in clinic tests are performed properly: A positive test result indicates the patient does have protective levels of antibody against the virus. A negative test result indicates the patient does not have protective levels of circulating antibody. However, a negative test result does not necessarily define susceptibility.

There are other vaccines such as: leptospirosis, lyme, bordetella, influenza and feline leukemia. We will help you to decide when to give these vaccines based on their individual needs. Most vaccines need at least one booster after the primary vaccine.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Starting when the puppy or kitten is 2 weeks of age, they need to be dewormed for the first time, then dewormed every 2 weeks until they are 10-12 weeks of age. It is important to have their stool checked during their veterinary visits to allow for the correct choice of the dewormer. When they are 6-8 weeks of age, they will get the first of their distemper/parvovirus vaccines. These are repeated every 2-3 weeks until they are 16-18 weeks of age.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Does your pet need a dental? Start by lifting your pet’s lips. If you see dirty or discolored teeth, typically an ugly brownish-greenish color, this is likely tartar or plaque and is an early sign of imminent gum or periodontal disease. Next examine the gums for any swelling or redness. If you brush your fingertip along the gum line and observe the tissues become angry and inflamed or even bleed, this indicates more serious gum infection and disease. Finally, take a whiff. If your pet’s breath is foul smelling this is usually associated with a bacterial infection. A pet with a healthy mouth should have pleasant or at least neutral odor. If your pet exhibits any of these signs, you need to have your pet seen immediately.

State-of-the-art surgical facilities, equipment, and protocols: Our surgical suite is a separate room with a sterile environment equipped with the latest equipment. Our protocols are customized to the patient, not a one size fits all approach. We use preoperative pain prevention to minimize the depth and maximize the safety of general anesthesia. The best anesthetics (balanced injections, propofol, isoflurane, regional nerve blocks) provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Our patients’ vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures both directly by our staff and through the use of equipment such as continuous ECG, pulse oximetry, and respiratory monitors.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Keep plenty of fresh water available. Also keep track of how often they are visiting that water bowl and how much water they are consuming. Dogs and cats that have increased water consumption may have diabetes, kidney disease, Cushing’s disease (only in dogs) or a urinary tract issue.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Ultrasonic scaling removes the sub-gingival plaque bacteria and calculus that are directly responsible for periodontal disease. This will improve the odor of the breath and appearance of the teeth. If disease has been present for too long, we may discover that one of more of the teeth needs special attention. Our first and foremost goal is to save the teeth if we can.

Small enough to know you by name and not just a number. Dr. Woerner is awesome. My dog, Keira, went in for a small eye surgery and the vet and her tech, Tessa, felt her stomach was quite extended. They did an ultrasound right then and found 10 bladder stones. She didn’t push me into doing surgery right away and tried other methods to get the stones to pass. It didn’t work, so surgery was required. It went smooth and my girl was back to herself in no time. She’s now going through other issues that Dr. W. is working very hard to help her. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
