We arrived at the restaurant at approx 7:30pm. My children were pleasantly thrilled with the entrance. The koi pond is a particularly nice touch. The kids even got to feed the fish. However, once we were seated things began to turn south. We were ushered into the back of the restaurant, into a very crowded room. Where every table was packed but one with practically no space between them to even sit down. My family had made do with worse, so we went ahead and sat. Apon heading to the buffet, what was there was almost gone and there wad extensive lines around the buffet. So we're thinking, "Man this place must be really great!" it's so crowded you can harfly move. We sit down to eat, and find the food is only so so. But still we're ok, we've had worse. But then, the check came. And for mediocre food, I expected, for 3 adults and 3 small children, around $40-50. The bill was almost double that. When you go to a restaurant and pay that much, you expect a roomy atmosphere, polite quiet conversation and fantastic food. Joy wok feel seriously sorry of that experience for such a high Bill. We will not be returning.
I have been eating here for 25 years easily, and like the owners. Their waiters quality vary over the years, but if you become a regular, and trouble yourself to get to know them, they will take good care of you. Have always felt like they care about the customers, and it is my daughters favorite place to eat; they practically adopted her after watching her eat "hot and spicy" at her second birthday dinner. I love the fresh entrees, they are a great deal for the price. Again, get to know the menu, and you will find which sauces you like best. Not crazy about the appetizers; the wrappers on the egg rolls and rangoon are too thick, and the soups too generic for my taste, but probably just right for someone who is not an adventuresome eater. Dinner seems to have the better chef; it is priced slightly higher. Once the delivery people know where you live, you will get your food hot and crisp. This is not gourmet food, but a great place on a budget, and a wonderful neighborhood establishment. Hope they never go away.
In an unassuming building on Independence Ave, with a rather American name, Steam Bowl Chinese Restaurant is serving some of the best Chinese food in this area. One might think twice before entering this establishment, given the area and the outside appearance. Once inside, the place is very clean and we were greeted by smiling, friendly face. We were the only ones seated in the dinning room, but carryout customers came and went throughout our meal. Obviously the great food is no secret to people in the neighborhood. The food was very fresh, well seasoned and the portions big enough to split an entree. The dumplings were some of the best I've had in this hemisphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a great meal at a great price, served by people that definitely take pride in their food. Two thumbs up!
My family was told by a nurse working at St. Luke's that if we wanted Chinese 'that is the place to go'. I generally am not impressed with most Chinese restaurants, but now my standards for Good Chinese food have been raised. The China Wok had clean fish tanks to look at when walking in the door. The staff greeted us immediately, and were very friendly, the place itself was very clean and had ornate casings with items on display. The food came quick and was some of the best if not the best we have ever had. And our glasses were never, I do mean this- never, half empty. They came around every few minutes to make sure you weren't thirsty. The portions were perfect. The soup was hot. Not many other Restaurants have all their stuff together, but this is definitely one of the few.
Just to tell everyone I am not a big fan of corporate restaurants. I travel a lot and it seems like every where I go the local restaurants are disappearing. The great thing about corporate restaurants the food and service is constant from one location to another. Trying new local restaurants are literally a hit or miss. Peking Chinese Restaurant is one of those few hits you will find when it comes to local restaurants. I prefer their homemade crab ran gons and hot and sour soup. The main dishes are very good. My favorite Chinese food has always been the crab ran goons and hot and sour. Happy Eating... BTW.. chasity1621's comment is probably from a customer with very very very high and ridiculous expectations. I would ignore her comment.
This is my & my children's favorite chinese retaurant! I should probably give it only 4 stars because the service isn't always great. (Sometimes it is hard to get the waiter's attention for drink refills, etc., and they barely speak english.) But they really hustle and the food is fabulous! Freshest, crispiest (but not hard) sweet & sour chicken. Great egg rolls and crab ragoon. My sons love the Gen Tso's chicken & the Seaseme Chicken. Cashew Chicken and Moo Goo Gui Pan are also great. There is a buffet, but the entrees are only about $8 each and so hot and fresh, we usually order off the menu.
This little place is a wonderful addition to Parkville. Mostly for take out, it does have a few tables in the front for people who would prefer to eat in, This is family run, the husband is in the kitchen and the wife runs the front. The food is good, basic, decently priced. I have purchased food here several times over the past 3 years and have never experienced or witnessed rudeness of any kind. I highly recommend the place for decent take out, and have recommended it to friends and co-workers.
Beautiful and peaceful zen looking place where you can actually hold a conversation without yelling, even on a weekend. Food is great at dinner, less inspiring at lunch. All your favorite dishes and some exotic ones as well. If you need to take out of town guests to a reasonably priced dinner, you cannot go wrong here. Dress up or down. The hours are good, and there is something for everyone to enjoy, even the unadventurous. If only they delivered!
To be honest...New Peking is the best Chinese food I have ever tasted, but they are a little expensive! If you want something that is reasonably priced as well as good, then this is the place to go! They deliver, but it is a long wait...45 minutes to an hour! The food is really good tho! I can't eat everybodies Chinese, but this and New Pekings are the one I enjoy!
When my husband and I get a hankering for some Chinese food and want it delivered, I always order from China Wok. They have great food at great prices and we always get our food nice and hot! I have never been dissatisfied with what we get here. I highly recommend the food, and to actually have it delivered is a huge plus!!
