Like another reviewer, I really wanted to like this shop and give them my business as they are in the neighborhood. I took my bike in a week ago for a complete tune up, new tires, chain, brakes.....the works. A $235+ estimate, no problem. I was promised the bike would be ready today. I walked to the shop, over a mile and a half, with my bike helmet, ready to ride home. I was told it was not ready and given a lame excuse about days when employees take care of repairs/tune-ups. Bottom line, I'm done with this shop. I fear that a shop like this may close it's doors and leaving your bike with them would result in problems you do not want to experience.
The customer satisfaction is definitely at the core of this business. I can tell with the way they treat clients that they are dedicated people.
I picked up a custom built Tout Terrain bicycle with a Pinion gearbox and belt drive from Joe Bike in June, 2015 and took it to my house in Jackson Hole. This is an expensive bicycle that I use for long distance touring. First let me say the wiring was excellently done, the parts were as specified in my contract with Joe Bike, and there was no cosmetic damage on the bike. Without having ridden the bike at all, I gave it a complete inspection upon arrival in Jackson Hole. Here is what I found:The spoke tension in both wheels varied for 30 to 80 KGF. According to Tout Terrain they should average 100 to 110 KGF.The bike has Shimano disc brakes. The spokes were not laced as specified by Shimano for disk brakes but rather were laced for rim brakes. There is a major difference and Shimano engineers know best. The wheels were re-laced properly and spokes correctly tensioned.The RockShox front fork was leaking air from the positive upper chamber to the negative lower chamber, a not so rare problem for new RockShox front forks that have been stored for some time. The shocks, therefore, “packed-up” after a few miles and took an hour for the build up of pressure in the lower chamber to bleed out. Obviously, the fork was never tested even thought this is a known issue. A shock overhaul cured the problem.This bicycle has a handlebar stop. The stop clamp had one thread stripped completely so the stop was ineffective. A tread insert was installed to correct the issue.The front fender was installed with zip ties and would strike the tire every time a bump was encountered and remain out of place dragging on the tire until repositioned. P clamps were used to replace the zip ties on the fork lower tubes to correct the problemNo thread locker was used on any fasteners that did not come with thread locker. The stand and rear fender came loose right away. All fasteners on the bike were removed and tread locker applied to correct the problem.The gearbox shifter cable jammed after 1200 miles. The problem was over tightening the set screws that secured the cable ends to the handlebar shifter. The overly tightened set screws broke several cable strands that eventually frayed down into the cable sheath and jammed the cable. The specification from Pinion for torque on the set screws is 2 in-lbs - not much but all the is necessary. The set screws were so tight they could not be removed without damaging the drive hex recesses. The problem was solved by machining out the set screws then replacing the cable, sheaths and set screws followed by properly torquing the set screws. In my opinion, this is an unacceptable number of serious assembly errors and reflects very poor craftsmanship. Peter White of Peter White Cycles in Hillsborough, NH was very helpful in solving the above problems. If you want a fantastic Tout Terrain bicycle, in my opinion, Peter is a better choice than Joe Bike.
Best place for used parts matt was very helpful Thanks for the clutch plates. Would be glad to return some people think good prices and used parts are the end all fix all but they better know what they are lookin for or they will be un happy
So, prior to my experience last night, I will say I have had three years of excellent friendly service. Unfortunately, last night, when I took my bike in to have the gear shift fixed (I had taken it in Thursday night; the guy that night thought he had fixed it), the fellow who helped me (whom I have never seen before) told me the gear change issue I had he did not notice in his 30 second ride on the flat parking lot - so I was wrong. (Doesn't matter I ride for an hour with hills). Also, when I said the gear change gauge wasn't working I was informed it isn't necessary and one should be able to feel the gear changes. Which, incidentally, was my thought yesterday when I got on my bike and realized it didn't work. During the hour long hilly bike commute home I decided - yes I did want a working gear change gauge. I was told they couldn't get to it until the following Monday; plus, I would have to leave my bike there until then ($25 part, $18 labor, a week to do the work and patronizing attitude - wth?!?). Needless to say, after having been dissed, talked down to, and treated like crap, I will not frequent this establishment again. I don't know if this guy's terrible customer service is for all parties who patronize the shop, or just female bicycle riders, whichever it is, I recommend avoiding the establishment.
Ripped me off. Quoted one price, charged another. Heard they're closed now. Good riddance. Karma strikes again.
P.O.S. he sold parts off my bike then had the balls to tell me it never had them on it oh and he never fixed the problem with my bike i later did i wish i had never went there and lost so much time money and my parts i had love to kick the owner in the mouth but you have to do time but that damn sob can lie cheat and STEAL.....really just dont ever go there
On 10-25-14 I bought a Yamaha Raptor 660 ATV from Mike Landry (owner) of Road Hawk Cycle. The bill of sale lists Road Hawk Cycle as owner. I paid $2100, and Mr. Landry said the ATV was in good shape; nothing wrong with it that he knew of. Part of the deal also included him later to give me (as he didn't have them at his place of business where the ATV was purchased) 2 sand tires on rims, and a protective skid plate (total value of about $300 as used parts). He mentioned he also just changed the oil and bought a new battery for it (and he gave me the receipt for the new battery).After buying it I noticed he had very poor reviews on Yelp (and a D- with the BBB), for shoddy work and not giving customers what they purchased. After trying for a few weeks to arrange to pick up the tires and skid plate, Landry finally told me it would be impossible because someone stole them (supposedly, my loss). (Since he's in the surplus business, he can re-sale these for profit, if he even had them as he claimed.) Given his reviews, I wasn't surprised. What I thought was a good deal now looked pretty bad.Since Landry has such bad reviews, I had a pro mechanic check out the ATV. The exam showed $1,899 repairs are needed, as a partial exam because they couldn't even get the ATV to idle. (When I purchased the ATV, I did test ride it about 200 ft., as Landry seemed to show frustration over the need for a road test and there wasn't much land to test ride it). The pro mechanic examiner said that after some repairs are made, additional checks could be made, such as a test ride. This deal went from "bad" to "horrible."Some of the major problems:-- Matt bought a new battery, but it is the wrong type. Battery needs correct replacement-- The radiator has rust in it, and there was no reservoir cap. It looks like a 4 inch hole was self-repaired and probably incorrectly repaired. The radiator needs to be replaced.-- The swing-arm is damaged and needs replacement (bearings, bush, shaft, etc)-- Clutch repairs (plates, springs, and gaskets)-- Rear brake (bent rotor, cable, hose, disk, pad, etc.)-- Dirty oilHe said "You can trust me because my business reputation rides on it." Little did I know his business reputation was already shot.
This is a good place for all those cyclist that doesn't know how to take care of their bikes. They have mechanics and parts here that will suite your budget.
My daughter wanted a nice bike to ride extensive miles. She runs ultramarathons and wanted a bike that she could jump into routine 50-100 mile rides. Jack took the time and had the expertise to correctly fit her and make the transition from running everyday to biking and running. He spent and extended amount of time and energy to both fit her and meet her student financial request. Fabulous job from a nice guy
