Using this company for our move & the company they contract with (Protected Van Lines) was an absolute nightmare. To start off, the company gives you a 3-day window they will pick up your items. Our window was Wed-Fri & we were moving on Sat. They called on Thurs to say they'd be there between 10-2pm on Fri but did not show up until 4:30pm. I was anxious because I had waited around all morning and afternoon with no communication as to why the delay. I tried calling several times & was unable to get ahold of anyone. I was growing increasingly irritated since we were leaving the next day & our stuff had not been picked up & I had no clue what was going on. I was completely livid by the time they arrived but had to be nice since I was at their mercy to carefully pack our stuff. They offered little explanation as to why the delay. One of the guys brought a dolly in the house & made two large scratches on our wood floor. I showed him what he'd done & asked him to please be more careful.
I used Master Movers a couple of weeks ago for my move from Beaverton to Vancouver. The team was caught up in heavy traffic but they didn't charge me extra travel time which was nice of them. The guys were friendly, fast and efficient and made my move go smoothly. My husband has used this company several times in the past and highly recommends them and now so do I. Their rates are very good and they seem to be focused on customer satisfaction zooming through their task despite being paid by the hour. I would thoroughly recommend this company and would always make them my number one choice for future moves.
I first used this company more than 15 years ago. I used them again 11 years ago. And then I used them for the third time this past week-end. They are consistently efficient, friendly and very reasonably priced for their services. I recommend Smooth Move People; you won't be disappointed.
I was waiting to see if I received a tool box that was lost in my move (they told me they found it) before writing my final review. It never arrived.My last minute move began with a quote from Budget. This is the first problem. They are middle men who quote low to get the sale, then the bad news when NW Relocation shows up and it's TRIPLE the price. He spent too much time bashing Budget and not working with his men this I felt put them behind schedule.One of the workers didn't speak or understand English very well, he needed to be supervised but he wasn't and this caused most of my troubles with them. He packed my moving folder with all my necessary papers, passport and money that was near my computer on the counter. Mind you his job was to pack the kitchen items, pots, pans, etc. When it was discovered that the folder was missing, Dan (the foreman) immediately blamed me. Saying “that I was mistaken and often times customers say things like that and it wasn't true”. Practically yelling. He was pretty cold and unhelpful until he suddenly remembered seeing the leather folder himself. Then he softened his tone with me. However, while unpacking the boxes, they didn’t repack carefully, my clothes got dirty and items were broken. He also packed two bags of garbage that was smelly when I opened my boxes. Stupid and unprofessional.When my items arrived, the delivery guy held my things hostage until I paid him in cash first. He refused to take my items off the truck. So I paid him. then we were suppose to count the boxes to make sure nothing was missing, he refused to do that. He then proceeded to hit on me asking to come back and make dinner for me and help me unpack. I was disgusted. Then around 10:30pm he called saying that he found a rug in his truck that belonged to me. He said he couldn't bring it back because he was gambling and he couldn't leave his 'good winning hand’. I had to get up and get dressed in the middle of the night to go get my rug. In addition, most of my dishes were broken, my lamps were destroyed and my bookcase was damaged because it was never put in a box as promised.Then finally, I called the office asking about my toolbox. Neil said he found it and was tying to reach me. Mind you he was calling the wrong number. He said that they would put it on the next truck down here. When I never received it, I called and I was told that they sent it UPS. I asked for the weigh bill number to trace it. I was told that they lost it. So then I said I could still find it with the credit card number that was used. He then told me, that he paid cash so there's no record. You tell me, what business does this? You be the judge as to what happened to my tool box?? They stole it.All in all, 99% of my experience was negative.
Maser Movers did an amazing job for us. The weather was almost 90 degrees and we had to stop them to take breaks. They arrived on time, were professional, friendly, and did above and beyond to help us with our move. I have used them for all of my moves since the early 2000's and highly recommend them to all!
Worst moving company EVER. They damaged our mattress in a move from Utah to California where we were promised shrink wrap and tape for free. My wife asked the driver to wrap the mattress and he responded with verbal abuse and said nobody requested it. Communication was beyond poor, and I had to call them 6+ times every day for 3 days just to find out where our things were and when they would be delivered. DO NOT USE THESE LIARS!
After experiencing their awesome service, I have no doubts that their movers are extremely talented and they made the full use of their potential. They came on time, managed the entire move (Oklahoma – West Virginia) very professionally and executed each and every single step exactly how I wanted. I am really happy with the outcome. Though they were little expensive than the other company but I preferred the reputation over price. I was right. I took the right decision. Their movers and the sales guy Ryan did everything necessary for my move. I had many fragile items and plenty of heavy furniture. So, I was little worried. But they wrapped and packed everything with great care and skills. It was clear that these guys are highly experienced and skilled. I have a large family with 6 kids, so you can only imagine how stressful moving can be! I was looking for a company that is reliable and experienced. I went through several companies, none of which I felt were good enough for the job. I moved several years ago with another moving company but despite all their promises I was not left happy with the work they did as they were not reliable and several of my items were damaged. My brother suggested I called NW Relocation as he had used them previously. Upon calling I spoke with Whitney who was completely honest and told me everything I needed to know. The job was done brilliantly. The movers packed everything with care and were great with wrapping all of my delicate items. Job well done.

That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.

For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.

If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. The subject of tipping is relatively unclear when it comes to movers. However, there is a general rule of thumb that most people in the industry agree on: Tip your movers if they've done a good job and you think a tip is warranted.
Generally, a 5 percent tip is considered appropriate, though some people recommend paying $20 per day, per mover for basic, local moves. However, almost everyone agrees you should first do a quick walk-through of your home to check for any damage to your furniture or belongings and to make sure everything is where you'd like it to be.
If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
