Child Custody and Visitation
Some aspects of a divorce judgment may be modifiable. Those areas include child support, child custody, parenting time and spousal support. The basic requirement to modify one of theses areas is that some aspect has changed substantially since the time of the divorce. For instance, one spouse’s income may have increased or decreased substantially. Or perhaps the children are spending more or less time with the other parent than was originally ordered. So if there has been a change in your circumstances since the divorce or if a new parenting plan is now in the best interests of the children, your case may be a candidate to be modified.
Premarital Agreement
Some couples elect to have a Premarital Agreement prepared before they marry. Such an agreement addresses possible future issues such as income, inheritances, gifts, and a division of assets. Having a Premarital Agreement in place prior to marriage can help avoid expensive and confrontational divorce litigation should the relations end. It may seem obvious, but a premarital agreement must be signed by both parties BEFORE they are married. Agreements made after marriage are called "post nuptial" agreements. The effect of a post nuptial agreement in Oregon is a grey area in the law. Spousal Support
In some cases, spousal support (alimony) may be awarded to one of the parties. Spousal support is a monthly payment from one spouse to the other based on a long list of factors. The typical reasons for awarding spousal support include a large gap between the parties’ incomes, where one party has stayed home to be a homemaker while the other parent was the breadwinner, where one person needs assistance so that they can re-enter the job market or obtain training to do so, and where there are small children and it is in the best interests of the children to have one parent remain in the home for a time. The amount of monthly support and the length of time you would pay or receive support will depend on the specifics of your case. There are no set rules for determining the amount or duration of support. Our firm has spent a great amount of time tracking and charting spousal support decisions from the Oregon courts for over 20 years.

In 2014 Stephanie moved to the Portland area and expanded her work to include complex and litigated bodily injury and property damage claims in connection with personal and commercial policies. After 7 years working on the insurance side, she decided to enter the legal side of personal, commercial and professional liability cases.
