Excellent Sunday breakfast!! Loved everything about our experience

Provided by Citysearch -This is a cute and classy establishment. The food is excellent and service is good. The decor is beautiful, vintage mirrors, chandeliers, lots of natural light. Brunch here is a must for anyone coming to/living in Portland.

Provided by Citysearch -Awesome happy hour. $3 snack size food with your drinks? Sure I'll have a few.

Provided by Citysearch -Recently went here for dinner and won't be returning. Food is mediocre at best. The primary (and only) seasoning appears to be salt, salt and more salt. Service was decent, but the food is terrible. An insult to mother's everywhere.

Provided by Citysearch -Our family usually goes for Sunday brunch. The food is always excellent and I just adore the Wild Salmon Hash. The line can be a little long though but it's well worth the wait.

Provided by Citysearch -There is a sign on the wall, ""Be Nice or Leave."" The staff should sincerely take this to heart. Really bad service from start to finish. I had called ahead of time to ask about a table and was told it was ok to come in at 5 pm. They neglected to say that we would need to sit in the bar. Well, that was ok, but not what we wanted. We had quite a few different people serving our table. All were rude. I don't say this lightly.
However, once the food got to our table, it was very good. I had chicken and dumplings which was delicious. My dinner-mate The portions are very large so the remaining was lunch the next day. The desserts are decent as well.
However, we won't be back. The servers, as well as the manager (or whoever that was) need a class in customer service. Badly.

Provided by Citysearch -I went to read reviews this morning to see what people were giving great raves about for breakfast before going. I could not believe the bad ones. We have been there many times and it is slower with a big crowd of 12, but ALWAYS great food! This morning I had the Wild Salmon hash, mmm good!! (My wife usually gets it and I take some bites.)
My favorite is the Biscuit Breakfast with country sausage gravy. It's not a heavy flour tasting gravy. Try it, its really good.

Provided by Citysearch -So, I'd been hankering for a meatball sub. I hadn't had one in years, but I was really wanting one. So I get one at a cart by work: fake cheese, cold meatballs, salty sauce on a mushy hot dog bun - inedible. Then Quiznos - yuck, Subway - AWFUL....... so I've eaten 3 meatball subs and all that sodium, carb and fat wasted. So, we're at Mothers and a special is the meatball sub. I order it, but they had just run out - but the waiter says it's amazing. Finally, I'm there on a Meatball Sub Day again and get one - it exceeded my dream lunch! Simply put: it was beyond perfect and worth every calorie, carb and other stuff I limit. The perfect sauce, giant meatballs, cheeses on killer, toasted to idealistic levels, garlic italian roll thing. I subbed their fresh, hand cut fries for the boring pasta salad and chowed.
I work Downtown, and often when I need feeding, I go to Mothers because everything is great (except the pasta salad), but sometimes they exceed greatness to nirvana (like the goulash, matzo ball soup, burgers & fries, cobb salad, breakfasts yada yada.
The only bad thing is that instead of having a meatball sub every 5 years, I'm eating my third in 6 weeks and not losing the few pounds I need to.
THANKS FOR COOKING BETTER THAN I CAN!!!!

Provided by Citysearch -Friends...""true believers"" drug us to this place our first day in Portland...then we started sneaking there on our own...there is a line at breakfast...get there early...Portabella Scramble will momentarily put you in a trance...wait staff is friendly and effective...food is hearty and healthy

Provided by Citysearch -Soooo... I love love love their food, I think it is over priced though... but there is nothing else really like it so I guess the price is worth it. The only negative thing I have to say is the staff seemed snobby, and put off that we were only a party of two... hmmm... like i said, lucky the pulled pork was THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!

Provided by Citysearch -Mother's is good but I think they are a little overpriced. Their portions are not super big so you must be paying for something else?
People say it's amazing so maybe I need to try it again but I'm not sure what everyone is talking about.

Provided by Citysearch -This is an amazing place for breakfast and brunch! They don't accept reservations so you have to show up and loiter on the street while you wait which is never more than 20 minutes on busy weekends! It is fun to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy your morning. The breakfast selections are wonderful and well worth the wait!
PS I love Mama Mias Italian food next door for dinner, it is owned by the same people!

Provided by Citysearch -$16.50 for meatloaf and mashed potatoes … need I say more ? What a rip-off. They buy garbage food supplies ( just ask the owner of the cart across the street … People's Pig … who watches the delivery trucks come to them every morning. He'll tell you what quality of food they order !!! )
Nice atmosphere, food tastes ok but SO FREAKIN' OVERPRICED its ridiculous.

Provided by Citysearch -My coworkers and I went to Happy Hour at Mother's last week and we were all impressed by their cocktails. They have a large variety of drinks to choose from and their rates a reasonable.

Provided by Citysearch -Tried to make a reservation for a Thursday afternoon at 11:45 and was promptly told ""no"" so we pushed it to 12:30. Showed up with my party of 3 and was shown to our table. Granted there isn't a lot of space in the place, as it seems they have tried to cram waaay too many tables in, but we were seated at an isle table right in the direct path of everyone. So much for trying to reserve a nice spot for lunch out.
Food was mediocre. I had matza ball soup, which i love, but this was very bland. The broth was completely unseasoned and unflavorful. Service was dull and a bit slow. Not great but not terrible. Probably won't try this one again.

Provided by Citysearch -I think the waiter's name was Jason. We had a large party (we had reservations, that's the only way to go!) of 10 or so ladies for a baby shower. The waiter took great care of us, made excellent recommendations, seemed to really care about his job.
We all tried some of everything on the menu and it was all worth going back for! Cinnamon rolls and scones with the French-pressed coffee (at your table!) started off our meal. Then I indulged in the waffles with Oregon raspberries. YUM!

Provided by Citysearch -Recently took my mom here for birthday. We all loved it.
Great server food and atmosphere. Will go back.
