I stayed at this hotel the night of my wedding. Plus, my bridesmaids and I got ready for the ceremony in my room. The room was large enough to fit all 10+ of us in there! That's all crazy girl's getting dressed and made up for a wedding. The room was beautiful and so very comfortable. Highly recommended!

I have not stayed in downtown Portland before, but was looking for somewhere to stay for my honeymoon. Ended up getting a great deal on one of those discount sites and then when we showed up after our wedding ceremony and reception, all dolled up of course, they upgraded our room to a suite. A very pleasurable stay even if we were only there for one night. They also have bikes to check out but I think they only have two. I liked the fact you could bring your pet. Hung out in the morning in the sitting area with our coffee. Loved the fish in our room. Bedding was great and it was quiet, no street noise. Great animal print robes, fabulous giant bathroom. Service was great and they quickly brought us some forks to eat our wedding leftovers and they had already displayed the bottle of champagne that my new inlaws had gifted us. Overall great stay, no complaints. I would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I stayed here for the 2nd time last weekend. We ordered the ""romance"" package and it was worth it. Sparkling wine, rose petals, late check out, breakfast ""in bed,"" free valet parking. We had the larger King Size Suite which was perfect. Prior, we have stayed in a Grand Suite which is very special - just right for a wedding night!
Unfortunately, this stay, the neighbors next door were very loud (sounded like young women partying - this is 1:30 am). We called the front desk and they really didn't do much except try to reach them by phone - and they wouldn't answer. Oh, well.
But, we were still able to lounge in bed until 1 pm which was a special treat. This is a great hotel and we'll be back.

We love staying at the Monaco. I think that maybe our dogs enjoy staying here even more than we do. Everything the staff here does makes you feel welcome. I love Kimpton hotels allowing pets, offering the beverage/wine hour, and offering a great hotel experience.

I was bowled over by the service and the lovely appearance of their lobby and guest rooms. Highly recommended for everyone! They even gave my kid a goldfish in a bowl for the two nights we were at the hotel! (The goldfish's name was Gary - how cute!) Art the Lobby Dog is adorable and clearly loved and well-cared for by the staff. The restaurant Red Club has just been renovated and the food we had for breakfast was great. The location is also very handy for local restaurants and shopping. One front desk clerk gave us amazing lunch and dinner recommendations and seemed to know the city very well indeed! We very much appreciated the personal attention and will definitely be back next time we are in Portland!

Okay, let me be fair. Their front desk, room service, and valet was exceptional, and we really received out-of-this-world service. Honestly, some of the best service I've ever had at hotel. The one-star rating is because housekeeping lost my wedding dress for a period of time, and then it was returned to me stained.
Coming from out of town, my wedding dress had been carried on the plane, and I needed it steamed the night before my wedding. No big deal, right? I had them pick it up around 3, and when I returned from the rehearsal dinner at 9, it wasn't back in my room yet. Long story short, it had been placed in another bride's room, and it took them over an hour to locate it. The next day, when I put it on, there was a black ink stain on the upper left part of the dress (right over my chest) that became apparent to everyone. It was the size of a pen mark. It wasn't huge, but because my dress was satin, it was noticeable on the texture. Because of the timing, there was nothing we could do, and I had to move on with my day.
I did let the hotel know after the fact, and they gave us a coupon for a one-night stay, which corresponded to the excellent customer service I had received during my stay there.
I have since had me dress cleaned by a nationally recognized dress preservation company, and the stain didn't budge, which stinks.
Moral of the story...don't let them touch your clothes, but still a great place to stay.

I come here every so often, when I need to get away from the usual scene and feel pampered. The staff is courteous and attentive to your needs. The renovation is fabulous and the service continues to climb higher and higher in excellence. The location is perfectly situated for downtown activties and events. Highly recommended for in-laws who are visiting, romantic evenings and bachelorettes. All fit this unique hotel!

What a great experience! The service was ridiculously good. I've never met a friendlier staff and felt more at home in any other hotel. This boutique style hotel is beautiful! The decoration from lobby to room was like stepping into a Interior Design catalog...I walked through the hotel eyeing every corner for decor ideas! From the front desk to the valet guys down below, everyone went out of their way to chat with us, offer directions or places to see, and were just generally nice. Coming from Los Angeles, this felt like another planet! Great place to stay, especially for the money. A hotel like this should cost $300-$400 in any other big city! I highly recommend!

In portland last week and stayed at the hotel. While it is slightly off the Main Drag it appears that everything in Portland is within walking distance. Very close to Powells Books, the Pearl District and the Waterfront.
The rooms were very spacious and comfortable and the service was friendly.
The hotel Concierge did a great job at directing to some great restaurants in the city and we will be back because of it.
This hotel is up there with the best of them. Not only is the decor fun and funky while maintaining class, the service is unbelievable. The staff bend over backwards to make even the most mundane of hotel stays something to write home about. I recently stayed for a business meeting and found the entire experience (meeting not included) delightful. My dealings with the sales/conference people went smoothly and they worked hard to accomodate my group's every need. The front desk and bellmen, etc. really made the stay special by remembering my name and making genuine, friendly conversation with me throughout my time there. The wine hour is also something else; during my stay the hotel brought in Voodoo Doughnuts to compliment the wine! It was kitcshy and cute--not to mention delicious. One last thing is Art, the hotel Lobby Dog. His big personality is like icing on the cake. The special touches this hotel is committed to are why I will look for Kimpton hotels whenever I travel.

I've been to Portland many times and this hotel knocks all of the other ones out of the park!! The staff is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, the wine hour is so great. Also, what a great LOOKING staff from the front desk to the bellmen and valets...oh my! And they have a dog named Art who's sooo cute!!! I recommend this hotel to everyone!

Planning a wedding long distance is hard enough without the extra headaches from hotel monaco.
We planned to use this hotel for out of town guests for our wedding, but regret the day we contacted Hotel Monaco. They drafted a contract and blocked in our rooms based on PRELIMINARY conversations. Then showed no flexibility and were unwilling to accomodate us for a larger number of guests. we needed to increase the number of rooms and they REFUSED. they also refused to allow guests to come the night before.
Reservations, sales, and the director all told me the only choice we had was for guests to pay full price for friday night and get the discounted rate on saturday. Wrong there was another choice, we booked our block of rooms at the Westin.

The last weekend of Spring Break, my boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend away for ourselves and stay downtown. We found Hotel Monaco through Citysearch and decided to try it out. We got a great deal from their website by making reservations 14 days in advance. When we got there, the people were great, but discovered that we did not have a plasma TV and DVD player in our room, which the site stated we should (and what we reserved for). After my boyfriend mentioned this on our way back to our room before dinner, the front desk person was great. She stated that some of the renovations were done, but that was one that wasn't. They had the TV's and DVD's but didn't have the furnature yet to put them in. For our trouble, she gave us a complimentry contential breakfast for our room, and free Valet parking (which at $27 was great!). We had a wonderful nights stay, and great service all around. Not only that, but dinner at the Red Star was wonderful! We would love to stay there again for weekend get aways, not to far from home. It's a great hotel to stay even if you just want a place to crash downtown after a night of partying!

A true Portland gem. Fifth Avenue Suites is one of my favorite hotels in Portland. I held my 35th birthday a few years back and booked out 5 rooms for friends and myself. The staff was fantastic, the room decor amazing, and we were all extremely comfortable.

My husband and I return every year to this hotel to shop and just enjoy downtown Portland, its walking distance to everything. We love boutique hotels and this is defiantely at the top of our list, from the moment you walk in the door you feel the warmness of the place.

WOW...I do not know where to start. My girlfriend and I had tickets to the Capitol Steps show on election night, and decided to make a romantic night downtown out of it. I tried to get in the Heathman, Paragon, and the Vintage Plaza, but all were booked. When I was talking to the Vintage Plaza they informed of the 5th avenue suites and it was another Kimpton Hotel, so I jumped on it. I booked a king suite with the Romance Package. From the get go I know it was going to be a good night. We arrived at the hotel and used the valet parking since it was included on our package. The check in was easy and everyone was really nice and polite. The interior of the hotel was almost 18th Century Georgian with a little modern thrown in. Very nice. The free wine reception was nice also, although we didn't stick around very long since we had champagne in the room, plus I am more of a bourbon man, which just by chance I had nice bottle with me. When we walked into our room, our mouths dropped. The room was awesome and very big. A nice big bathroom that you could increase or dim the lights in. The sitting room was nice and the rose petals on the bed, champagne on the table, with romantic music playing on the radio...very nice touch guys...keep up the good work. The Red Star was also top notch. I will rate them on their on page. We will definitely be back!!! If you want to be pampered and have a relaxing stay.......this is the place!!!!
