Jake's is the Place for Dinning to celebrate special events

My wife & I celebrated our 39th Wedding Anniversary last night September the 30th. What a great evening place to relax and eat and enjoy our evening.
Thanks, again

Violently ill after eating Jake's seafood

I got a horrific case of food poisoning after eating shrimp at this restaurant. I contacted them by phone and email to let them know about it, and never received a response. I was ill with SEVERE stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea for 2 days. I did contact the Oregon health department, so I would suggest staying away if you want to stay out of the toilet.

Eat the menu, not the fish.

If one could eat reputation and history, this would perhaps be a good restaurant. However, if one likes and appreciates seafood, stay far away from Jakes. At one point I considered putting salt on the menu and eating it. It would have had more flavor than any of the four dishes we had. How can one take fresh seafood and extract all of the taste? I have eaten seafood all over the world and I have never paid so much for so little. Is this a Portland joke? Is there anything less than one star?

First Visit - So Disappointed

The history of this famous Portland restaurant was the best part. And, the atmosphere is very happening. I love seafood. I had the worst fish and chips I've ever eaten. I don't treat myself to them often, and I thought oh they will be so good here, so I must! They were burnt! I really should have sent them back. My husband was also displeased with his meal. The prices are crazy expensive, which is totally fine as long as you get what you pay for. Won't go there again. Many other places which are not as expensive with better food.

Jake's Was a Hit!

Super-gracious host welcomed us, above & beyond gracious waiter suggested the best food we've ever eaten at any restaurant. Excellent presentation of food. Try the Oven Roasted Crab & Shrimp Stuffed Salmon with dessert of Chocolate Bag (filled with white chocolate mouse, fresh raspberries, blueblerries, blackberries, topped with whipped cream and served wtih raspberry coulis). Yum! We weren't very hungry so asked to split the main course and dessert. The waiter did not look at all disappointed but admitted he couldn't eat a whole meal himself. We left him the super nice tip he deserved! :) Will definitely go back there.

The best lobster around. Pricey but worth it.

A fond reunion

Had not been to Jakes for many years - just too busy trying all of the new restaurants in PDX. However this weekend our plans changed last minute and our friend suggested Jakes and we were able to get a table.

Started with a drink in the bar where the bartender (wish I caught his name) was excellent. Made my wife's favorite (Sidecar) perfectly and poured me a nice Black and Tan. Excellent service.

Dinner was excellent. Started with the seared Ahi and the crab and shrimp cakes. Both were delicious.

For dinner I ordered the crab legs. I was impressed with the flavor and the size of the portion. Wife loved the stuffed salmon.

Shared a banana creme pie to finish off a wonderful meal.

Our waitress was very good - attentive without being overbearing.

We will put Jakes back into our regular restaurant rotation.

A sad state of affairs

Once my favorite but no more. Somethings need to change and evolve but Jake' how and yet you've become just a shadow of your old self.

Your food is at best mediocre....servers still wear their smiles but seem distant or worse yet ""Play acting"" just to keep that big tip....phony isn't the word...they just seem to be going through the motions when once one felt they actually cared.

And the 5 PM bartenders----please----and I've been there 3 times in the last two weeks....enjoying a glass or two of choice brew before taking my table only to be further disappointed----those wonderful bartenders of yore and fond pleasant memories...gone like my youth to be replaced by uncaring, unsmiling snarly sorts.....

And maybe in the years ahead I will return...ever hopeful lthe Jakes I used to cherish will have as well....but for now and the foreseeable how and farewell........

Clam Chowder

5-stars for the clam chowder. I was a bit dissapointed that McCormick and Schmick's did not have the clam chowder on their menu (reallly, a seafood restaraunt without clam chowder!). Luckily this outpost is a few blocks away and serves delecious clam chowder. Also look for the framed letter from about the guy who got his tie cut off - funny stuff.

Outstanding Happy Hour and More

If you know Stumptown you know about Jakes. The lunches and dinners are still excellent after all these years. Even more so their Happy Hour will make anyone happy, and if your hungry, you're in luck - the HH food is superb and the pricing is a bargain. I have been to Jakes 2-3 times a year for 25+ plus years and it never disappoints. Recently, four of us sat outside and the wait staff was timely and helpful. The drinks top notch with the house margarita still a standard to measure others by. Food items from $1.95 to $4.95 all served as if it was an entree. Calamari, gumbo, cajun chicken, sweet potato fries, mussels, fish taco's, humus, or the burger, all very good. The team at Jake's truly ""gets it"" and I recommend you get some too!

I have been going to Jakes since I was a child and have great memories. Have done a lot of traveling and have not found a better restaurant. Service is fantastic and the food is excellent. A great value for the food and service

Best service

We went two times the week of Christmas. I thought we would get bad service because they were so busy but boy was I wrong. I think we had the best service at Jakes than we have had in a whole year anywhere else.
And the crab was delicious!

OK... I could never figure out the hype.

Jakes is a Portland institution but I am not sure why, maybe because it was established when there wasn't much compation? It always has good solid service and good solid food but that is the problem they are happy with good and therefore never go beyond good. There are so many places in Portland that try harder and are sincere in their efforts, they often go well beyond good, why not support one of them? I have eaten at Jakes a dozen times now and have never had anything that was great come out of the kitchen (never anything bad either), I am sure I will be going back with some group of friends, but I hope not.

wonderful seafood

We stumbled upon this place quite by accident and were impressed by a very complete menu of fresh seafood that was well prepared and presented. Excellent service by Mike our waiter. We cannot wait to go back.

Treat myself to a blowout at Jakes every couple years

I love the buzz whenever I go to Jakes. Menus and decor can be emulated, but that certain bit excitement that some places is unique. I always feel like I'm at the top of the world once I walk in. The drinks are made the way they should be, waiters look classy, and the food is outstanding. Plan on a long evening and make some new friends while hanging out in the bars.

Great place to take the boss!

Drink - Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with Cuervo Gold.

Appetizer: Cajun Popcorn

Main Course: It's always a toss-up! You can never go wrong with the Dungeness Crab Leg Saute or the Parmesan Petrole Sole.

Jake's is a not to be missed Portland classic.
