Yes, I did honor this reservation -THIS WAS MOTHER'S DAY
The server was Sanderson Table 84/11-outside.
I made a reservation with 'Open Table'. I requested ADA seating preference as my Mother is mobility, vision and hearing impaired, thus the dining room was my preference. The hostess had no record of the requested seating nor I think of the reservation at all! As she proceeded to sit us in the bar area. I told her this was 'unacceptable' as it was too loud for my mother to hear or talk. The hostess proceeded to sit us outside on the sidewalk in the heat and the sun. She didn't even ask if this was OK, or if we'd like to wait or comeback for a table in the dinning room.
The food server took our beverage order and never brought them. We had to remind her after the appetizers came. She said the ticket was gone and thought they had been served, however she could clearly see they weren't on the table. The beverages still took a while to arrive.
After the main course arrived my niece requested salt and pepper. Again the server never brought it until after a second reminder. I was halfway through my dinner and my niece asked about my coleslaw that I never received. By the time it was brought, I had already finished my dinner and had the server give it to me to go.
Additionally, I used the restroom and there was no toilet paper and had to use a toilet seat cover instead of toilet paper.
No offer was made to reduce the bill or a coupon/discount upon another return.
The comment card wasn't included with the check nor was there one on the table. However, I had picked up one inside the restaurant. I will be mailing it.
Here is how I 'graded the performance':
D-HOSTESS FRIENDLINESS/EFFICIENCY: She didn't acknowledge my reservation-Nor did she ask or say that we'd be sitting outside on the sidewalk after I told her that sitting in the bar area was 'unacceptable'. Nor did she apologize for sitting us out there.
D-FOOD SERVER FRIENDLINESS/EFFICIENCY: SHE WAS NOT EFFICIENT AT ALL! Not noticing that our beverages had not arrived nor noticing that the coleslaw wasn't included or had arrived before my dinner was not efficient!
F-SPEED OF SERVICE: There was no speed of service for the beverages or salt pepper requested.
A-QUALITY OF FOOD: IT WAS GOOD!
B-OVERALL VALUE: IT WAS GOOD TO FAIR-I ALMOST WAS TEMPTED TO NOT TO LEAVE A TIP! HOWEVER, I THINK I TIPPED MORE THAN WHAT WAS FAIR FOR THE SERVICE RECEIVED. I ALMOST WROTE ON THE RECEIPT FOR THE TIP TO ONLY GO TO THE CHIEF AND/OR BUS PERSONS.
F-ATMOSPHERE & CLEANLINESS: NONE- WE SAT OUTSIDE!

5-16-12 Today I received a personal apology from the owner James Louie-who assured me he talked with his staff on the issues. Addtionally, he treated me to lunch with a nice sandwhich of my choice with coleslaw and a soft drink. Also gave me a $50 gift certificate to return at another time.

I recently joined a group of friends at Hubers for dinner.I have to say we had a awesome time.The Spanish coffees are a must see! The man who made our Spanish coffees for us was amazing with all that fire and showmanship and funny too.
I decided to stick with tradition and have the turkey dinner which was delicious.Just like Thanksgiving.The serving was so large,I couldn't finish it.Our friendly server told us the whole history of the place.Definitely a place to bring out of town guests to experience a Portland tradition.

I've lived in Portland for 5 years and have never been to Huber's. A lot of my friends have come here for years, saying it was a great place to meet up, have drinks, enjoy good happy hour food, and Spanish coffee. After the Kevin Hart comedy show on Saturday, January 8th, my wife and I along with 4 of my friends decided to come here to get some late night happy hour and they especially wanted to take me here because I had never been here. We get here and everything is cool. 3 of my friends order Spanish coffee and the guy comes by and puts on a spectacular show in making these drinks. I can tell he had been here for years. My friends tipped him well and he was on his way. As we sat there, enjoying our drinks the waitress comes by and tells us that they are about to close the kitchen so if we want to order we need to let her know. We all said ok. About 2 or 3 minutes later she comes back and we are ready to order. We all order food, I ordered the cheeseburger...simple enough. Another friend of mine ordered the same thing, along with the beef skewers, the quesadillas and something else that escapes me at the moment. As we're sitting there having conversations about the hilarious show we had just seen, she comes back with our entrees, with everything looking pretty good. I get my burger, and my wife starts eating some of my fries. She says that they taste kind of ""old"". I grab a couple and start eating them. The fries tasted like old cold mcdonalds fries ( anyone who has had old mcdonalds fries knows how horrible these fries must have been...and i haven't had mickie d's in over 6 years at LEAST ). So I asked my friend if I could taste one of his fries to see if we got the same caliber of fries. His fries were delicious. So before I dug into my burger, I told my friends, ""I know the kitchen is closing so they may have shut everything off, but I'm not sure. Let me ask the waitress if the kitchen will make me some more fries because my fries aren't that good. If the kitchen is closed, I won't worry about it and I'll just eat my burger."" So I call the waitress over and we start talking about how the fries aren't good and if the kitchen was still open could they fire up some fries before they shut down. No attitude, no nothing. It was a simple question. She told me and I quote, ""It's a 2 dollar burger. What did you expect. If you want me to take the burger back I can."" I said, ""The burger looks fine but the fries are old. I was just wondering if the kitchen was open, I just want a new batch of fries."" She says, ""If you don't want the burger, I can just take it away."" I said,....""Take the burger."" 3 things wrong with waitress. 1.) You never talk down to a customer like they should expect CRAP food because it was 2 dollars. She said it like I ought to be thankful. 2.) Listen first before you open your mouth. All she had to say was the kitchen is closed, I'm sorry. I wouldn't eaten my food, paid my bill, left a tip, and been on my merry way. 3.) Attitude is everything. If you don't like your job, working in the food business, you should quit. You interact with people all day long. Customer service is a key part of any job. This place is lucky to have loyal customers because the bridge has been burned for me. I'm never going back. It's not worth my time. Of course I left no tip and my friends didn't either. One of my friends said, ""Is it possible to leave a negative tip."" And get this, my friends felt so bad that my experience was just plain terrible ( and my waitress was so stupid) that my friend who had the cheeseburger cut his in half and offered it to me After saying don't worry about it, I'm fine...I just took it and said thanks. The burger was phenomenal, especially for 2 bucks. All of that ruined by the service I received. I hope your experience will be better, but I won't be back...ever.

Huber's was established in 1879, no wonder it's called the oldest restaurant in Portland. When I worked in banking, (in the 80's) this was the go-to-place. Their Spanish Coffee is to die for!! Watching your server make the Spanish Coffee is beyond satisfying, there is no rush, each ingredient goes in slowly being ""kiss...ed"" by the next ingredient, it is set aflame, and just when you think it cannot get any better, the flame gets ""snuffed out"" by the creamy topping! Now, I'm jonesing for one! By the way, the food is delicious, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Huber's.

Starting with your walk down the hall make sure and look at all the old photos. The history adds to your experience of the meal. Next, have the turkey and ham dinner with delicious pumpkin pie. Finally finish with the original Spanish coffee made at your table.

The owners of this DUMP are right wing conservative wierdos who only care about money and give whatever they can to the Republicans. They trick nice people into thinking they care about them but they do not. The night manager Tony Huie is a criminal who belongs in jail. When he dies I will throw a party with his face on a dart board and I will toss darts at it all night. The service sucks, the ceiling leaks, and the guys who make the Spanish Coffees want to off themselves. AVOID this place. It's trash.
