Been there many times but will have to find some place else to go for pizza. Cheesy, greasy, over-priced pizza is not why I go out. Lots of other places in town serve better stuff at lower cost.
Plate was dirty too but that could happen to anyone.
Service is always excellent.
If they only made good pizza...

My previous review of Hopworks has changed over the past 9 months. It's still is a good place to grab a beer, but not the best to try and catch Happy Hour in Portland. The prices have increased a bit and the service and the staff has dwindled. Basically they're too busy, understaffed, and there is not enough room for most to even get a seat. Wait times have gone up, food quality has been hit or miss, and we've had to wait numerous times over 15 minutes to just be seen, and another 30 to 45 minutes for the food. Christian either needs to hire more staff, or expand the bar side, otherwise he'll be losing a lot of patrons. We'll go back because we still love their food and beer.

I wish I could say I love this place. My husband loves the beer, the food is fine. Our son loves playing with the train table in the kids area (when they actually open the top area instead of cramming everyone into the bottom level). BUT- the servers are SO rude. They act like they are annoyed to be seating and serving you, and can't understand why people would be annoyed that they have to wait for an hour to be seated. I seriously know every time I call they will be rude to me right off the bat. I tried to book a party here and it was like I should be so lucky to get a reservation- they had all kinds of rules and when I had to call to cancel the party because my son had a fever and it was his birthday, the woman on the phone basically told me off- huffing ""So you're not coming?"" three times after I told her then heavy sigh, ""Ok..well.. I guess I'll have to tell my manager! Thanks! Bye!"" just dripping distain. Hey- if you hate your job as a server or hostess, go to school and get a real job. Don't take it out on the people who come to your restaurant! I will not be back any time soon. It's a shame because we really were hoping this place would not be the typical bad service Portland establishment like the rest of them.

It's fun, great beer and food and we love to meet up with friends and spend some time.
They serve a v.v.v. good burger and we've always experienced great service. I think if you want a more intimate, conversation-friendly venue, you may not like it here. If you want to be in a great, innovative space, enjoy some excellent brews and really good pub food, you'll love HUB.

This place is a true gem for the beer lover. Their organic beers are all artisan masterpieces. I would recommend their beer brewed with real espresso as a winter warmer along with a piping hot piece of pizza. In addition, this is a great family-friendly place with excellent service when we there, granted that was a weekday night. I will definitely be back!

We've been here before and it has been okay. However, tonight I've decided that we will never go back again.
We waited for almost an hour to be seated and the service was so bad. My 7 year old was the last to get his food (to be fair they brought out the wrong food for him the first time and had to go back and make what we really ordered!). We were all done by the time my kid got his food.
Speaking of the food, how much salt do you really need to cook with? Everything was soooooo salty. There was nothing special about the pizza or calzone sauce.
Really bad! Really bad!

Lets review some...
Back when Christian E. was brewing beer at Laurelwood, I can remember thinking that Mike was going to loose this young brewer to someone with vision, or Christian would strike out on his own. I couldn't imagine a talent like that paired with the poor service and sub-quality food delivered at the Laurelwood public house. Then we all saw the dream come true, Christian put together a wonderful physical plant to house his new Hopworks Urban Brewery. A very exciting time, and a good chance for Christian to pair his fine beers with a quality menu. First, I would like to say I am a Hopworks fan, and I remain hopeful that the team at Hopworks will become a great Brewpub.
Christian, the food does not hold up, it is falling far below the potential and abilities that your beer maintains. I have patronized your brewery every month since you opened and have found that the food, and the service is starting to fall into the Laurelwood realm. Yesterday in fact I took several guests to enjoy a few IPA's and some food. Our waiter ""Dustin"", when we could understand him,(cause he mumbles), didn't even know what the soup of the day was, and there are only 2, one of which is always the same...right? Our pizza was soggy, the crust squishy in most places and tough in others. Each and every time I have had a meal at Hopworks, it has been poor, or mediocre at best. There has been only one ""Brewpud"", in the history of my travels that has actually made the connection between good service, good food and good drink, that was the old ""Spanish Peaks Brewery"" in Bozeman Montana...god bless that stupid Italian Mark who let his personal life destroy such a great place...*snif*
Anyway, get on the stick HOP's crew! There is still time to break away from the others in the pack and shine!
I give 3 stars, one for hope!

Best food on this section of Powell.. the greek salad is my most favorite. Everything is organic, beer is great. Its trendy and SO not trashy like so many other bars on Powell. It attracts great customers, they play funky music, and its cozy. Although the service is a little slow, this place is still FAIRLY new so i give them the benefit of the doubt.

Well me and some friends decided to go to hopworks today what a bad idea. First we were seated and then proceeded to wait for our server which by the way never came. I had to actually find her and ask her to come to our table to take our drink order. Then she finally eventually came and took our food order 20 minutes later . I will actually say that was the last time we saw her. Our food came out after 45 minutes yes 45 mintues. We had to ask for silverware and anything else we needed. Of course since we waited so long our drinks were empty, so we put them at the end of the table hoping that someone would come and refill them. Of course no one came so I personally went to the bar and got all of us refills. A lady behind the bar came to our table to bring the drink back to us. At this point we told her what a bad experience we had and to just bring us the bill. She said that she was sorry that the kitchen usually takes 25 minutes for the food and she would bring us our bill. At this point we were just fed up. We ordered slices and salads which I think wouldn't take that long. Anyways she came with the bill and comped our sodas. Thank you.. NOT. I believe she should of brought the situation to a manager. By the way 1 server on the bar side with 3 people behind the bar. I think its got good food but definately not worth the hassle of the service. So if you have time on our hands and alot of patience you should go there!

Hop Works is dope. The beers are above average, the food is pretty dang good ( I had a pizza & the Hummus plate, fries are rad, burgers & chicken sandwiches looked real good!) The seating in this place is ok, good patio seating, bar doesn't look too good, tables look sketch also (I like big comfy chairs). The place to get here is what we call the ""The Submarine Room"". It's a one table 6-8 people room off of the floor. You can still hear the music but can also hear your party. I'd reccomend this place if you wanna have some good food & drinks, don't expect much from the waitstaff but some of them are good.

Today was my third visit to Hopworks, and my last. Every time I've had the same experience: hostess seats us, AND WE WAIT, AND WAIT, AND WAIT. Apparently the hostess can't take a drink order, and the servers are veeeeeeeery slow. This was Saturday afternoon about 2:30 p.m., place wasn't crowded, lots of empty tables, two employees sitting and talking near the entrance. It took 20 minutes to get a beer to drink, which is about the wait of our other two visits. Food is average or slightly worse, a bit overpriced and a little tasteless. Beer is not bad but not as good as Hedge House, Lucky Labrador, Roots, Green Dragon, Belmont Station --- all nearby. In short, no great reason to go there and an offensive experience WAITING.

Portland is the home of local breweries and I've been to a few and I definately think Hopworks is one of the best so far. The beer is great and the food is reasonably priced and they have a great selection to fit a lot of tastes. I got the Portland Bella burger and it was delicious! The fries are great too! I've been raving about them ever since. The outdoor seating in the back is great in the summer time. It gets pretty busy on the weekends but the most I've had to wait was around 30 minutes or so and that was for a big party. Last weekend my parents car was broken into while we were eating at Hopworks. They parked in a small front parking lot which was near this strip club next door (go figure). So this would be something I'd be careful about since it's right on busy SE Powell near bus lines, a Motel 6, and multiple strip clubs. Nonetheless, I would recommend this for a group of friends, family, or couples.

I brought a large group (30+ people) to Hopworks for a photography meeting last night. We were all raving about it afterwards. Our waitress, Brianna, remembered names (wow), kept everyone in beer and food, was polite and smiling the whole time, and split checks for us without concern. She handled the group better than most high-end restaurant waiters! Her assistants who brought up food and beer were super-polite and friendly. We were all so impressed, and some of our members bought growlers, they liked the beer so much.
Go Hopworks, go!

My family and I, 8 people, went for dinner last night, saturday. We got there at 5:10pm and weren't seated until 6:30. The host and hostess kept taking smaller parties , never thinking to put 2 tables together. We asked them several times but finally had to sit at 2 seperate tables across the room from each other. I will never go back again eventhough the food was very good. The saving grace for the evening was our waitress, Lauren, who served the children quickly and who was very plesant and cheerful. However, the disrespect the host staff had for us sealed my opnion.

We love Hopworks. We've been a few times and the beer is absolutely incredible. Definitely one of the best brewpubs in Portland. The food is great as well (try the calzones!). Service is great. It's so refreshing to have water and beer refills taken care of without having to think about it or flag someone down. We love this place!

Been to hopworks twice now. This time I ordered the burger and it was amazing. The beef was seasoned to perfection and all around it was perfect. The fries/jojo's are sooooo good as well. Not sure about the reviews about the bad service because our waiter Peter gave us great service. It is very busy and we had to wait but we had a beer while we waited and it went by fast. I am very picky when I dine out especially about burgers and it was to die for. : )

I've been to Hopworks twice now and both times were awesome! I've tried three of the beer and have liked them all. Pizza was good too. The service was great as Lauren as our waitress. There is a kids play area, I thought was nice touch. I like the recyclable in use item through out the place also. Have you seen the bathroom!?!?! Clean and cute! Beer and Bikes! I love it! Cristian brewed a great beer and made a fun place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon.

Friends and I visited HUB last night and experienced terrible service. First, my husband ordered a beer and was served the wrong one. The waitress was argumentative when told it was incorrect instead of just accepting responsibility and moving on. Wait there's more...we ordered our pizza and I ordered a salad. I'm told the pizza was good but I never received my salad. After reminding the waitress of my salad order, and being told it would only be 2 minutes longer, it never arrived. My friends finished their pizza and still no salad. After asking three separate people for the salad, I canceled the order all together. We were about to pay the bill and leave when along came the salad. All we could do was laugh and leave a very small tip. Could be a cool spot if they would get the service right. Not sure if I'll go back though.
