Good live music, great margaritas

This is a great place to go for live music, and they make one of the best margaritas in town, muddled lime and everything. Watch out, though, for the older chubby lady bartender with long blonde hair. If you’re not paying attention, she will beyond doubt try to shortchange you. Last night I gave her a $100.00 and she gave me back change for a $20.00, trying to play it off as a simple mistake. I knew different however, because this is the second time she’s made this “mistake” with me. Last time it was a fifty. I didn’t tip her, so for the rest of the night she wouldn’t serve me, skipped over me and told me to “f*&@k right off” the next time I came up to the bar. I talked to two other patrons about it and, lo and behold, they too had stories of shortchange “mistakes” in the past with this woman. Go to the Ash Street by all means. It really is a great place. But avoid this woman like the plague. Use the other bar in the music room or get your drinks from the wait staff.

Great place to have a burger and some brews

During my recent trip to Portland, I was less than impressed with the selection of bars in the downtown area, until I came across this gem. The ""kick your a$$"" burger was fantastic, and they had Arrogant Barstard Ale on tap which is a major plus for me. The vibe was very similar to my usual bar here in Austin, Casino El Camino. A rough around the edges neighborhood bar that you wouldn't mind hanging out in for hours on end.

Great place to hang out-but not talk. Little more alternative and less trendy.

Ash Street Saloon is A-1

We really liked this place! The burgers were wonderful, crisp french fries and a great choice of brews. The place was being decorated for Halloween and the woman doing the decor was enlisting the help of all the tall men to hang the spider webs - fun to watch.
