The City of Portland Department of Parks and Recreation provides a variety of cultural and leisure activities. It operates several parks, open spaces and trails. Its parks and cemeteries division covers more than 1,200 acres of land. The department s park system features historic cemeteries and over 30 playgrounds. Located in Portland, Maine, its recreation division offers recreational programs for preschoolers, youths, teenagers and senior citizens. The City of Portland Department of Parks and Recreation also maintains a golf course and administration division. The department organizes sports activities that include basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis and swimming. It conducts camps, concerts and lifeguard classes.
