We all had the Hibatchi....... First and last time for us. I think they should offer noodles too..... I hate rice and you got a boat load of it. The salad was small and the soup, well it was all broth..... they should also have some kind of bread, maybe shrimp toast or something like that. I definitely walked away hungry.. Very expensive for what you get.. Better off going to Red Lobster.
Had a great time. The best Japanese restaurant in Kalamazoo. I highly recommend it for people who like Japanese cuisine.
"Hostesses" here need to learn the job description of a hostess. I ordered carry out. Walked in within the time frame they gave me and my food was already sitting there but there were no employees to be found. After standing at the register for 6 minutes (I timed it), hostess FINALLY comes up from the back and walks right past me. Proceeds to cash out the couple sitting at the bar and then walks away to seat them at a table. She then comes back again and gets a drink and menu for the other lady sitting at the bar. Meanwhile, I am still standing there with my credit card ready, food still sitting there. She finally comes over to me and I informed her that I had been waiting a long time. She gives me some excuses about how the woman at the bar was there before me. I asked her how she knew since she was not around when I had walked in or for a while after that. She babbles more excuses at me and I just said "can we just do this please?!". Waited for a total of 12 minutes and it took less than 30 seconds to swipe my card and pass me the receipt to sign. Isn't the point of carry out so that you don't have to wait? Sushi there is okay but not worth it. Plenty of other places in Kalamazoo/Portage to get good sushi with better service.
Let me qualify myself. Long time West Coast resident and moved back to the area recently. I've had amazing sushi in LA, NY and Chicago. This was good, actually very good. The Edamame was a great starter also Miso soup. We let the Chef(his choice) bring us a platter of sushi for two and it was All very good especially the Eel. Service was quick and friendly. Only negative was no beer available. Waiting for liquor lic. So between Hana East and Sushi Ah and Kumo, I will make Kumo my first choice when I have to have my Kalamazoo Sushi fix. Take the first two bad reviews with a grain of salt this place is not as bad as they said.
