I have a history with this building. Back in the day it was a Pizza Hut. Whenever I would read a book, I would receive a "Book It" coupon from my school for a free personal pizza. When they closed that Pizza Hut, well part of my childhood died. It was later replaced by a Mexican restaurant named "El Patron". This was your typical Mexican restaurant, and my typical, I mean forgettable. That business closed and out of the ashes of "El Patron" rose "El Cantarito". How did this place hold up... Not well according to some locals. I came back home recently to visit some family, and they recommended this place. I was scratching my head wondering why? In fact it would have been better to go to one of the various chain restaurants in the are. Not great food, but you knew what you were getting. I was told that the restaurant went through new management, but being a veteran of the restaurant business, I knew that meant nothing. I walk into the place, and there were two things already different that caught my attention. A "Specials" menu and CUSTOMERS! This place was filling up quickly once we walked in. One thing I learned over the years is that you always order from a daily menu given that those dishes where most likely prepped the same day. I order the Pollo con Mole. That's chicken and Mexican chocolate sauce, not chicken and ground animal. I have never had a piece of chicken that juicy or that flavorful. The rice was meh, but that chicken alone, and the lovely atmosphere alone warrants the 5 star rating. Truthfully this place is a 4.5 stars out of 5, but wow!
The food is always delicious,I've visited other restaurants but none come close to the amount of food or the taste. You never leave disappointed.
