A British gentleman was cycling cross-country recently and, being a stranger to the area, stopped by the Port Jervis Free Library to inquire about a place to stay for the night, as it was late afternoon and beginning to rain. We suggested he try the Alexander Motel, and called ahead for him to see if there was a room available. (He was also short on cash and hoping for a good deal.) We spoke with Mr. Kirit Jakarya, the owner of the motel, and after we explained the situation, he offered the traveler a clean and comfortable room and even extended a substantial discount to show the good will of the Port Jervis business community. Needless to say, the cyclist was left with a very positive impression of our area, and we at the library thank Mr. Jakarya for offering such a kind welcome to this traveler.
