It was a nice atmosphere, but I like dive bars/restaurants. I had the beef brisket sandwich and the corn chowder soup (which was awesome). My friend had the lobster pasta which was good too. The beer was a bit over priced but thats what you get when you go to a bar with A LOT of beers on tap. Our waiter was very nice but he was a little scatter brained. I would go back because of the beer selection, not the food.
The menu states best burger around. Well my burger looked and tasted as it came out of a cardboard box somewhere. My husband had a brisket sandwich that had more flavor and looked more appealing but left him with a stomache for the rest of the day/night. The fries were warmed in grease - not even crunchy at all. Even though it was crowded we did get a waiter that was nice and attentive which is why the 2 star rating from me. I feel the prices are out of line. I probably won't come here again.

Are you kidding me I had to go to the bar myself to pay $4.10 for a domestic bottle of beer?? Once seated we waited 10 min for a waiter to come to our table just to say ""are you ready"" No hello, no do you want another drink, (to which we would have laughed no way were we paying for another one). Then the waiter threw 4 napkins on the table our silverware was wrapped setting at the edge of the table so we dispersed to ourselves. I had the taco salad, the salad part had a good flavor but the shell was obviously manufactured somewhere else and it looked and tasted like cardboard. Never did anyone ask us if we wanted another drink, if we wanted dessert, nothing. Since we had to go to the bar ourselves, pass out the silverware ourselves, the waiter that took our order did not serve the food, he did not remove our empty plates , he also did not get anymore than a .75 tip and that was simply because I did not want to wait for my change. Summary, average food, poor service, overpriced drinks, average atomosphere. Nothing special to offer.

Been stopping at the Box Bar for the last few years, and have always found the food to be top-notch. I've read some reviews about slow service, and while the staff is less than starch-collar, they are very friendly and quick to deliver the food hot.
Menu selections are not Ruth's Chris, but they are decidedly well above anything that could be called bar food. Portions are huge. The soups are obviously made from scratch, always excellent. Get a bowl of soup if you plan to swim in it ! A cup is enough. Vegetable beef is fabulous, cheese soup is rich and very well made. Pulled pork sandwich is a must, comes on a huge onion roll with slaw on the side (go ahead, dump it on the sandwich). you'll have to use a fork for a while first, before you can pick this sandwich up.
All in all, the food is down-home-made, American, stick to your ribs GOOD.

Kudos on the beer menu but that's about where the kudos stop. I recently walked into the box bar for lunch. The hostess sat my wife & daughter & I at a table. We sat for 20 minutes without any of the wait staff acknowledging our existence. They seemed as though they were intentionally avoiding eye contact. I said ""excuse me"" to one as she walked directly past our table and she acted as if nobody was sitting there or speaking to her. She apparently was too busy watching Fox news and tending to her ""young country"" haircut to earn a gratuity that afternoon. The place wasn't busy. we were one of 5 or 6 tables in the main area. If she was sizing me up she did very poorly. I'm a young guy but I do pretty well for myself. I've put in my time working in restaurants and I usually tip very well. 20 minutes without so much as a ""hello, I'll be with you in a moment"" from the wait staff is totally unacceptable--especially for overpriced bar food.

This place is great(for non up tight types). If you are expecting the ritz, you wont find it, it is a bar and grill. Please don't expect more from it than what it is. It has a great beer menu that you can not find any where else. The food is pretty good as well. If you want on the spot service and fine dining go some where elese.(again it is a bar) Please dont knock it if you like beer, and good food.

I stopped here for lunch. No hostess around so I seated myself. I finally found her stating that I needed a menu. The service was indicative of Taylor or other blue collar areas- not Plymouth. I was presented with my clam chowder by a gum chewing disinterested server. Oh did I mention that I need a napkin with my soup? Last time I checked it is proper protocol to present silverware with a meal.

I know alot about beer and this is one of the best selections you will see in the U.S. I don't know how many taps they have or bottles, but the selection is incredible. There is a menu for the beers which is well organized to help you, listing the beers by country. The food is pretty good here also. Mostly bar food, but they have a great brisket chili and an amazing sausage platter. I also like the spicy bombers. The bar portion gets smokey so you may opt for the non-smoking dining area instead if it bothers you.

I've read several of the reviews and alot of them have nothing good to say. I have been going to the Box for years, before remodeling and after. It may not be as quaint as it used to be, but before the remodeling you could never get a seat. The food is pretty good, especially for the price (try the reuben), and the beer menu is really the best I've ever seen. Service tends to be slow, just expect it, but they are pretty accomodating especially with kids. If you go expecting 4 star service you will be disappointed, it just is not that kind of place. This is a burger and beer bar and has never promoted itself as anything else.

The Box was our favorite at one time. Last Saturday, our 45 minute wait turned into 1 hour and 50 minutes, even after checking with the hostess and manager several times! We got seated finally but after 20 more minutes, we never even got a glimpse from a waiter or waitress! We walked out. We asked for the manager and the hostess said ""Whatever""! and went to get the manager who hid in the back room until we left. Disorganized, uncaring, obviously they don't need our or YOUR business!! Try E. G. Nicks about a block over! Great service, much better food than the Box, and a restaurant who cares. My group of 8 are all restaurant professionals for the last 15 years and we are an easy group, but the Box is not worth it!! This was the 2ND TIME this has happened here! No 3rd timers! Its BAD!!

I've been enjoying the Box Bar since one of my friends moved to Plymouth a few years ago. Though I don't care for the remodeling because the place lost some of that charm the previous decorating had, you can still sit in the old area.
Burgers are good, as are the multitudes of beers to choose from. Definitely not for high-brows, but good for real people and those who choose to associate with other real people.

I loved it when you could go into the Box, grab the beer menu, order a Rauchenfels Stien-Weizen, go to the back of the beer menu and tell the very attentive waitress/waiter that youll have the large all meat wet burrito and keep the beer coming. Not any more. The food off of the new menu is awful and the service is very poor which is too bad because this was one of our most favorite places to go for years. Walk the extra block and go to Sean OCallaghans.
