I left my dogs with the Pleasanton Pet Hotel when my wife and I went to Disneyland. As we are about to leave to return home I get a message that my dog had injured herself on their crate. They needed authorization to charge an examination fee for their vet to look at her and confirm that she was not seriously injured.
I immediately called them and asked how she could injure herself while under their ""care and supervision"". The response was ""she must have gotten too excited and hurt her tail on the crate this fairly common"". I want to emphasize my dog injured herself inside THEIR CRATE not running around during a free play. A basic assumption when leaving my pet with anyone is their equipment should be of an adequate quality to ensure my dog was not at risk of injury.
My wife and I regularly leave our dogs in a crate when we go to work and have boarded them with other kennels many times in the past. She has never once injured herself and is actually extremely docile in a crate. The only thing I can conclude is that either she was injured because there is a defect in their equipment or she got in an altercation with another pet being boarded. Either way it is unsatisfactory way to handle THEIR RESPONSIBILITY of caring for my pet whose safety I entrusted to them.
The injury aside; the fact that to even examine her they wanted to charge me tells me they do not care about the pets placed in their care. I liken this to leaving my child with a daycare and my child being injured on their equipment and the daycare charging me a basic first aid fee. When I explained my opinion to the manager she informed me that ""when I left my dogs in their care I released all rights and liability against them"".
Ultimately their prices are cheap, their facilities seem adequate but if your pet is injured while under their care they feel no obligation.
I took my dog over a holiday weekend thinking of coarse it would be well taken care of! That's not the case! First of all I was instructed to leave all phone numbers for emergency purposes, in the event something were to happen with my dog I would be notified imediately. Well as it turns out I came back to a very stressed out traumatized dog that had been couped up for 4 day inside a cage. She was not only stressed out but had not gone to the bathroom, nor did she eat or drink water, due to the stress. She was suppose to be able to go outside at any given time during the day and then back in at night, but turns out they could'nt handle my dog and so they had to just leave her in the cage. I would think at this point someone would know to call if your dog is not doing well and can't eat, drink or even go to the bathroom. Why put an animal through all that when it would have taken a simple phone call to have the owner come get the dog! My dog went through this for 4 days straight and has taken a while to recoupe from all the trauma. I say If you not good with animals and you dont like your job and can't make a better judgement call, knowing a dog is not doing well and could have caused the dog to die, wouldn't you just find another job? I dont get it! This was unexceptable care for any dog and should be taking seriously. I strongly advise you not to trust Pleasanton Pet care! Too may pea brains tech's that obviously dont have a way with animals & dont know what they are doing!!!!!!
