Looking for an alternate heating source , stopped by Deans and was pleasantly surprised, beautiful showroom, Dan was a great help , answered most of my questions and gave me a lot to think about. Definitely worth the trip, to get some great ideas and see what is available, see ya soon will definitely be back, thx Dan
Go somewhere else, they are not reliable in any way at all. Some of the women there speak to customers with demeaning attitudes. I can't see myself giving them any business or ever recomending them. There are better deals out there from nicer people who need the money, because Deans does not need the money seeing the way they treat people.
7 weeks ago I ordered a part for my pellet stove. I was told the part would be in , in 2-3 weeks. The third week I stopped in and they (parts department) told me " it is not in". Give it another week or two, that Lennox is slow in delivering parts. Another three weeks went bye. I called (3) times in (3) day`s to get the status on my part. No returned calls. Until the (4th) day and Ste Gon called me back. He informed me of the following: "The part was not in, reason being, the part was never ordered. I informed him to canceal the order and apply my deposit back to my debit card, He said he would take care of it. Here it is (7) day`s later and the credit has not been applied to my account. I would not expect any thing different. Apparentally there are a lot of incompentant people working there., I will never do business with Deans Stove again, even through in the past I have always bought all my needs from them. Bye the way, I ordered the part from one of thier competitors and had the part in (3) day`s.

Dean's Stove hasn't disappointed me yet. In 2008 I bought a Poineer Bay from Dean's and it works great. I just recently got a 34 DVL installed and I love it. The installers were so nice and friendly. I feel they give out the best information and back up their product. I feel they taught me everything I needed to know. Dean's is the place to shop! HONESTLY!

I wish there was a lower rating thans, EH!, This was the single BIGGEST waste of my time EVER! All I needed were parts that I already had the part numbers for. All they had to do was push send and order. Four months later I am still hearing lame excuses, no calls back and zero follow through. We have waited for over 15 minutes multiple times for them to ""research"" my order only to find out AGAIN, that they did not order. There is zero follow through with this company, no organization, no one can make a decision on their own. We have never had such trouble with such a simple order. After four months I finally called the manufacturer who told me they have heard this before and they gave me an online company to order the parts for much less$$$ AND the parts will be here in five days. In five days I would still have been calling the company at Dean's trying to get them to push the send button! Don't waste your time or money with this poorly run company. I ordered my parts through spaparts123 dot com. They were very professional and took care of things in a five minute call! If I had an enemy I wanted to frustrate I would recommend Dean's, but until then I give them two giant thumbs down!
After purchasing two propane stoves in early October they weren't up and running until mid December. After the first startup both stoves turned black on the inside and shut down after 24 hours. The start up tech said the soot would burn off after a day. Both have snorkels that exhaust out the side of the house. Both turned the sidding on my house black! The supposed expert came back out and got one stove working "properly" and couldn't get thev other to work. This required another visit by another expert. We were promised that the soot on the siding would be cleaned. No response to date. I paid for an expensive programmable thermostat remote. Never showed up and was told "most people don't like them and we will credit you on your next service"! Well I went down there to speak to the owner and he refused to come out and speak to me. He sent out the tech who couldn't get my stoves started in the first place to talk to me. He stated that the remotes we're on back order but after my refusal to leave without one he "magically" produced one from the stock room. The counter staff was rude and condescending. Will tell anyone I know what a horrible experience we had. Customer service has died in this country. No pride.
It is nice to see that some people have had a good experience at Dean's. Unfortunately, in doing business with them, you are rolling the dice. I, regrettably, chose to do business with Dean's, and was not as fortunate.
Here is what Dean's has done for me:
1. Taken a large amount of my money
2. Delivered (or had delivered, by a very incompetent subcontractor) a very expensive appliance
3. Left me with said (expensive) appliance sitting in my house, unusable, while I wait for parts and (another) incompetent installer to return and finish the job
4. Repeatedly scheduled an installation appointment with me, only to call and explain why the installer would not be able to keep the appointment
If you enjoy any of these experiences, Dean's is the place for you. Otherwise, I strongly recommend you patronize one of their competitors. While I have not dealt with any of their competitors (and thus cannot vouch for their integrity), I strongly doubt that they could possibly be as inept, incompetent, and as utterly uninterested in helping their customers as are the folks at Dean's. The people at Dean's complete one (and only one) task promptly: taking your money. If you want them to do anything else, you will be waiting a long, long time.
There are certainly other businesses that sell and install fireplaces, stoves, inserts, and spas. Go to one of them. I can only recommend Dean's if, for some reason, you enjoy any of the following:
1. incompetent installers
2. uncoordinated schedulers
3. having an unusable, expensive appliance sit in your house for an extended period
It is nice to see that someone has had an enjoyable experience with the folks at Dean's. I must say, however, that the only task they accomplish promptly is taking money from their customers. I cannot advise people strongly enough: go somewhere else.
In response to the last post, I can assure you that the review I am providing is not phony. I am (very unfortunately and regrettably) a customer of Dean's, and I have no interest in saying anything false about the people at Dean's.
That said, I cannot advise people strongly enough to go somewhere else. The previous post is patently false in several respects; most notably, the claim that the folks at Dean's care ""very much"" about their customers is entirely untrue. I can recommend Dean's if, for some reason, you enjoy incompetent staff and installers or unconcerned customer service staff.
In response to the suggestion of the previous writer, I (for one) would not post my address online for (what should be) obvious reasons. Allow that post to be instructive: individuals who work for Dean's put just that much though into what they say.
I am looking for a simple wood mantle to put above my fireplace. I called Dean's asking first if they carried basic mantles and second what the price range might be. A very nice, but very unknowledgable young man, first said they didnt have any then said he wasnt sure. I asked if he could find someone that did know. I was put on hold for more than ten minutes only to have a sales person anwer and say it was not a good use of his time to sell me a simple wood style shelf mantle and pointed me to some web site. These people are completely useless. A holier than thow attitude that makes me sick.

We had our new fireplace delivered about a month ago and I have to say I'm so happy that we found this place! I read so many bad reviews about the ones in my area and decided to take a chance on Dean's. I'm very happy that we did because they have been nothing but pleasurable to deal with. *thumbs up*

My wife and I bought our pellet stove from Dean's about 6 or 7 years ago. The stove is working great and we have them come out and service the stove and chimney every year. We just had them come out and replace our chimney cap and do our annual chimney cleaning and as usual everything went great. We would definitely recommend them to our friends and family.

Dean's Stove and Spa has truly been the best choice. Tracey was a great help. I picked out a 34 DVL insert in 2008, it's works great. Whenever I need service on it, they were always willing to help. After having great success, I went back for a hot tub. Tracey once again was a great help for picking the hot tub to suit my family's needs. I recommend this stove shop 100%. I could not be more impressed in their work.

Terrible on Every level. Grade F on BBB and deserves it. Bought my stove not knowing this… BIG Mistake. Blind leading the Blind there. From the beginning they sold me the wrong parts to install, gave me the incorrect statistics on the stove and had poor customer service. After returning the incorrect parts TWICE one of the installers (the only people there who had a clue) finally got it right. Soon after install the Feeder safety button broke, the ceramic bricks cracked and blower started rattling. Except for the blower I had to replace, which meant more trips to the store (30miles away). Just today the circuit board blew $340...Here's a shocker it’s out of warranty, I've only used it 2 seasons. Lopi Leyden is the model so stare clear of that’s stove and this store. For close to $5000 investment you'll save yourself a lot of grief going elsewhere. BEWARE!

Terrible company. They do not follow up on work they perform and caused damage at my house. Do not use them. they are scam artist. They have a F rating on BBB. I wish i knew this before i used them. The owner would not call me back and i have no choice but to sue them now to fix the issues they have caused. Save yourself and go somewhere else.

Purchased and had installed a Fireplace Xtrordinair, model Elite 36, wood burning fireplace from Dean's Stove in Plantsville. Rob was the lead installer, and he did a great job along with his assistant installing the unit, the stove pipe and explaining details related to operation. We've recently been using the unit extensively, and all I can say is that it works ""as advertised"". The heat generated is impressive, and now that I'm use to operating it I find that the unit can maintain a fire and leave a bed of very hot, red coals through the entire night. Very impressive for a wood burning fireplace.
Dean's staff were very helpful in reviewing our installation prior-to making the final decision to purchase since I was concerned about the details of the installation. I was removing an old fireplace unit, so I had concerns about ""prepping"" the area for the new unit, and I had to deal with a 27 ft high ceiling. In addition, Dean's had to deal with carrying the unit (approx 600 lbs weight) up to my backyard (our house is literally built into a hill), on to our raised back deck, and then into the living room area. Not an easy task. All I can say is they did a great job, and the unit works great.
Before I made my final decision to purchase I asked Dean's for some references of installs from my home town, which they provided. After contacting two references, and learning they were both very satisfied with Dean's installation, and the operation of their units (one unit was the same as the product I was considering purchasing), I then contacted our local building inspector's office to check if they remembered any prior installs by Dean's, and found they did remember and thought they did a good job. After all this I went ahead with the purchase, and I just want to repeat, ""the unit operates as advertised"".
I've had an excellent experience working with Dean's, and with this particular product. As with any major investment, I would just advise anyone to research the product, check with references, and get all your questions/concerns answered before making a final decision.

In response to Dean's posting that these reviews are bogus, I am a real customer. My name is Kevin Deame. My phone number is 860.871.8665. I live in Ellington, CT. I bought a gas stove from Dean's and the entire process was a nightmare. It took months to get everything installed and months again to get it installed properly. When removing the existing fireplace insert they damaged a door and porch and left it in my back yard (rather than taking it away as promised). No response. I can't tell you how many calls/messages were not returned. When it was originally installed the fireplace kept 'exploding' (loud pop that would blow out the pilot) when it would light. Very dangerous in my opinion.
I had it serviced by Andy on 10/5/2010. He said that the burner was 'cracked' (presumably from when it kept blowing up on startup) and should not be used . He would get one from inventory and install a new one. Have I heard from him or Dean's since? Of course not. Called them today 10/16/10 and after getting bounced around, I spoke to someone who was going to see if the part was in inventory and get back to me ""in 5 minutes"". That was 2 hours ago. They won't call back. They never do.
Update: Came across two competent people (Ashley & Derik) that were very helpful, but the part I need will be at least three weeks from the time it was ordered with no option to hustle things along even though I am willing to pay additional shipping.

I went to deans with a complete open mind my wife did not want me to install or do anything . Pay them to do it all. It started with the poor sales (tracy) and so uniformed and uncaring . my wife usually complains because i am a informed shopper usually! so i b payed what they asked and expected great service. what i got was inexperience.
So it may be good to shop here and have someone else do install but please shop around ...
