We began using Old Canal when we adopted a boxer back in 2002. We decided to use Old Canal as they had been seeing the 2yr old boxer since she was 8 weeks old. Eleven years later, we are still very satisfied patients of Old Canal. Dr. Hexter and his staff are amazing. They have seen us through good and bad times with our dogs, always with kindness and compassion to both us and the dogs. They have been with us as we said goodbye to our beloved boxer at the age of 12 in 2012 and when we had to make the hard decisions for our other boxer earlier this year. There is a lot of support and zero judgement found at Old Canal. And there just wasn't anywhere else we even thought of going when we welcomed new adopted mastiffs to our family.
If you consider you pet your best friend, then he/she deserves the best in health care. There is no better care than Dr Troy Hexter & staff at Old Canal Veterinary Clinic. I tried three other local vet offices before choosing Dr. Hexter @ Old Canal. Some may say I’m picky, but I want NOTHING BUT THE BEST for my dogs.
Like kids, illnesses & accidents to pet seem to usually happen during the night, on weekends, or holidays. Fortunately, Dr. Hexter is as caring as I am for my dogs. Many times I have called him at home with a problem with one of my dogs. I don’t know any other vet who is willing to meet you at the clinic in the middle of the night or as Dr. Hexter did 2 years ago, ON CHRISTMAS MORNING! Most clinics would refer you to one of the emergency hospitals.
Dogs & cats can’t verbalize what is wrong. It takes a skilled, knowledgeable vet to find the root of the problem. Usually tests must be run to find the answer. If cost is an issue, then discuss this with the Dr. or purchase pet insurance. Dr. Hexter really shines when the illness presented is rare or unusual. He depth of knowledge is very impressive and will go the extra mile to do what is best for the animal. He was willing to file a 13-page request with the FDA to allow my dog Casey to use a superior medication for Cushing’s that is not yet available in the US.
As Dr. Hexter’s reputation becomes known more and more, then more and more pet lovers will ask for his services. Since one man can only do so much, there may be a wait to see him. But then again, the best is always worth waiting for. I know my dogs deserve him.
Thanks Dr. Hexter...
I used to bring my animals here, and I really liked it. When my vet left they wouldn't tell me where she went so I started seeing one of their new vets. I liked her a lot but the place seemed really crowded and out of control all the time and half of the staff didn't seem to know what was going on and the other half seemed miserable. I decided to find a place that gave me a better vibe. When I came to my new vet Old Canal wouldn't even give them any information unless I came in and paid 45 cents a page for my records!! The front desk and manager were really rude and nasty to me about the switch and it made me glad I left!
