this is by far, without a doubt the best chinese food in the area. Your review was absolutely ridiculous and lacked any substance whatsoever. My garlic sauce was hot? dude didnt you ever eat soup. give it a little blow and enjoy. seriously dont listen to this fool. tai pei is one of the only chinese restaurants in the area that CHINESE people eat at. thats got to tell you something.

My mother has been dining at Taipei for over 10 years and loves to go often. I had planned on taking her to another restaurant where I had made reservations, but Mom wanted only Taipei. Without reservations, we walked in to a packed house looking for a table for 9.
We were told it would be a 30 minute wait, but was surprised when we got seated in about 10. Dinner was exceptional! We ordered Sushi and Chinese, with the best being the Japanese Oysters and the Surf and Turf. Even though it was busy, the server was quick and polite and the service was outstanding. Everyone enjoyed the night as we had plenty of food to take home for lunch tomorrow. The manager even stopped by to make sure our meal was going well even though his leg was in a cast. He was charming and funny and entertained the kids while us adult finished our meal!
They did all the little things that you don't see anymore in restaurants and I sure am glad Mom made us go there. I am definately going to be a regular there now!

A year ago, I saw a worker leaving restroom without washing hands after peeing and entering kitchen at this restaurant. I complained about this to a lady at the count. She looked very serious about this. Because of this experience and mediocre food, I have not been at this restaurant for a long time. On Christmas, there were few restaurants that opened. Tai Pei was one of them. I didn't have much choice. At this visit, I saw a sushi chef doing the same thing again - not washing hands after peeing!
Disgusting. Foods are just okay but expensive for quality.
There are six asian restaurants in this area and this is by far our favorite. While it does not have quite the ambiance of a couple of the other Asian places nearby, it is a very comfortable and cozy atmosphere. The sushi is very fresh and well made, with very high quality ingredients. Their Boston roll and Tai Pei roll are special favorites. The chinese food is always hot, fresh and delicious. My family loves all the food - moo shu, General Tso's (the best anywhere), beef and broccoli, sweet and sour pork and chicken, shrimp with snow peas, fried rice - all great. And they have delightful "Chef's Suggestions" like Imperial Beef, Crispy Prawns, Peking Duck and even flounder, shrimp and scallops and Filet Mignon, all done with a chinese flair. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and service is very good. If you like asian food, try this palce... you'll like it! (The take-out is great too!)
This is an excellent Chinese restaurant. Very well worth the prices. I've never had better orange beef or Chicken Lo Mein anywhere else. Highly recommended. Casual atmosphere, very clean, very attentive and accomodating staff. Food is presented, not just served. Try the egg and vegetable spring rolls too!

The Owners came over and ask how was everything. We said everything was good as always. Then we ask them do they know Jimmy Wan. They were like who is Jimmy do we know Jimmy? I was like the owner Jimmy! Then they were like yes Jimmy he was Managing the Restaurant and had 30% shares BUT he wasn't the ONLY OWNER. The reason that he is no longer here is that he was using company check like personal check. I was like WOW everyone thought he was the only Owner here.I guess he was not the only owner then. I think you guys did a great job here. Upgrade a lot of stuff and I love your BIG screen TV's. I'll have to come in on Sundays now to watch Steeler Games. Once again Great food and friendly people down there.

A year ago, I would have given Tai Pei 5 stars but something is terribly different! My husband always orders the General Tsaos and Tai Pei made the best. Now it had a different flavor and it wasn't a good one. The bbq spareribs lacked any flavor and the egg rolls were mushy. I'm not sure if we will go back.

I went to Tai Pei last weekend. The atmosphere was nice and we were seated in a nice secluded booth in the corner. Our waiter Martin was a nice guy. My miso soup was delicious - it had onions and mushrooms added to the normal tofu, seaweed, and green onions. My mother's dish of shrimp with mixed vegetables was also great. However, I ordered the Sushi Plate and the quality slowed down. The fish, while fresh, did not taste great. It was the rice that really turned me off; it was warm and not very soft. The prices were higher than other quality sushi restaurants. While I may go back for some good Chinese, I will most likely not give the sushi a second try.

My friends have told me that they have new sushi chef's there and should go and try it. We went there friday night with my family and they were busy. We had to wait about 10 mins for our table to be ready. We order a Sushi Boat and 3 Special Rolls(American dream Roll, Lobster Roll and Phoenix Roll). It was the best Sushi we had. We Highly recommnded everyone to go and TRY IT!!

I""ve been eaten this restaurant for over 10 years since I was teens. I love their food so much and my friends all love TAIPEI. I usually have take out order. Few years ago, I placed order through the phone and I came down to pick my order up, when I was paying the money, the old guy sit inside the counter and when he was receiving my money, suddently, I heart ""POO~"" He farted in front of me who picking up the food and going to eat soon~, I felt very ~!!!!!!!. I don't know how to say it!!!!, I paid my money and escaped from that old guy. It has happend to me twice, I don't know other customers. Recently I heart the owner has been changed, the old guy disappeared, now I don't need to worry to hear ""POOOO~"". Their food still same as before, NO! better then before and the service is great, fast. NOTHING CAN BEAT THEM!
I love TAIPEI CHINESE RESTAURANT!
The person below me just can not enjoy his(or her) life, he(she) wrote down many bad crticism in many stores. CRAZY PEOPLE!

i recently placed an order over the phone for pick-up. i asked for chicken fried rice and chicken & broccoli. then i asked if they had spring rolls. the man on the phone said yes. i asked is it made w/ just VEGETABLES 3x he said yes 3x. i asked you are positive that there is no meat especially SHRIMP in it. HE SAID YES I AM POSITIVE NO SHRIMP. so i ordered a spring roll. i get my total of 26.00$!!!!! way over priced. pick up the food my roommate tried the SPRING ROLL and she says why is there shrimp in this ?????????!!!!!!!!!!!
i am deathly allergic to shrimp!!!! what would have happened if i had taken a bite first?!
i called them back and tried to tell them what just happened. i could not understand the woman on the phone & she could not understand me. eventually she figured out what i was saying and offered me a FREE SPRING ROLL the next time i came in.
needless to say i will never go there again. the food was terrible! the chicken was all fat and gross.
it's not worth it!

I have lived in the Fox Chapel area for over 20 years, and was heart-broken when I heard of the ownership change for Taipei. With the departure of the owner Jimmy, there has been a steady downward spiral with regards to the food quality and overall dining experience.
My only solace is that Jimmy's new location is a quick 30 minute drive to Cranberry. It's worth every minute!

I live in Fox Chapel and have eaten here many times. The chinese is decent, but the sushi is really bad. My cousin even got sick on it once. He refuses to go back, but just tonight I ordered delivery and not only did they refuse to add a little tempura flake to my spicy tuna roll, but they refused to put a little on the side because they were ""busy and don't do that."" I have noticed how unwilling they are to try and cater to the customers wants. I even offered to pay for tempura flake with it, and they still refused.
What's even worse, is when my order came, they got my rolls completely wrong. I called them and they said they would remove it from my bill, but they would not send out another order because ""they were too busy."" All in all, this is the ONLY sushi in the area, which is really sad because this just is not a good restaurant, but people eat it anyway because its the only option. Take the time, go into the city if you want a real sushi experience, this place is bad.

I refuse to eat sushi anywhere else in the city. The freshest fish, and terrific chefs. The spider roll (soft shell crab) is unbelievable. The staff is friendly and willing to cater to all your requests. My first choice for all my out-of-town guests.
On the weekends, I would highly recommend a reservation.

I love chinese and sushi and in my opinion, Tai Pei is the best! Everytime I dine there, I try something new.....never had a problem. The resturant is clean, the staff is nice....you have to try it. Let me put it this way, my husband isn't a big fan of chinese cusine but he is always in the mood for Tai Pei!
