- General Info
- My goal in founding Pride Law was to provide a more comfortable experience and more satisfying outcome to my family law clients. In my twelve years of family law practice before founding Pride Law, I observed that no matter how skilled a party's attorney and even how favorable the facts and law to their case, the process of obtaining resolution through the court system of virtually any family law issue is overwhelming, bewildering and terribly expensive, and the results often appear arbitrary and are rarely satisfying for either party. Judges have a hard time telling who is telling the truth, in part because parties themselves are often so emotionally overwhelmed by the circumstances of divorce litigation that their own views of the truth are very different. Ideas of fairness can shift as esoteric legal concepts invade what parties instinctively know to be workable for their families and fair and consistent with their understanding as parents and former partners. Judges lack the time, understanding and incentive to impose individual solutions to individual problems, and tend to issue one size fits all orders. One or both parties are often financially devastated by the adversarial process as money that could be devoted to educating children or funding retirement are diverted to legal costs. Even where one party is satisfied with the result of litigation, the adversarial process can irreparably damage relationships that are necessary to effective co-parenting of children and many parties find the fight corrosive to self-respect. Not surprisingly, studies have indicated that well-being tends to decline after a divorce even from a very unhappy marriage. My goal is to help clients take control of their futures and find and implement tailored solutions that work well for them and their children without bankrupting them, haunting their children, or damaging their self-respect and/or ability to co-parent. I want my clients to look back on the experience of their divorce as a transition, not a tragedy.
