after my wife was upset about the gratuity automatically billed to us, she called the restaurant manager.
He was very receptive to refunding us the amount ( 38 dollars) that was charged. There is a statement on the menu noting at an 18% gratuity would be charged to parties of 6 or more.We did not see that and did not expect it on such a small group.
Soooooooooooooooooo based on how we were treated, we would definitely highly reccomend this restaurant. food was good. we had a fun time.
Ichiban just enjoyed a 50% gratuity from our family. The restaurant includes a 15% tip included in your bill's total.
However; the restaurant hands it's customer a receipt to sign that includes the typical line where you add your gratuity.
So with the 38 tip included in the bill and a 50 tip that my husband added, and a 10 dollar bill handed to our chef, we spent 98 dollars in gratuity for a 213 dollar tab.SO WATCH OUT EVERYONE... THEY RIP YOU OFF HERE...
ps. THAT'S ok.... THEY HAVE JUST LOST A TON OF BUSINESS FROM MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
This resturant is in great comparision to Benihana! It has the same theme with the same type of food. Although, there are more tricks done through-out the meal! Not to mention you recieve a lot more food on your plate! But thats not it, typically when going to Ichiban it is about $5 - $10 cheaper than Benihana. I would recommend this to anyone who graves the taste of Benihana, but just can not afford it all the time. Hope you enjoy this resturant as much as I have!

Having lived in New York City among a plethora of Japanese hibachi style restaurants, I was really excited about one finally arriving so close to my home now. I decided to give it a try with a buddy of mine last night, hoping for a nice, relaxing evening of sushi, cocktails, and conversation. What we got was a disappointment. First off, they made us feel like an inconvenience from the moment we walked in the door. The hostess stand was buzzing with 15 year old drama. One girl pounced, and asked us if we wanted a hibachi table or a regular booth before we even made it through the door. I informed her that we had never been here before, and would like to take a quick look at a menu before making a decision. A look of obvious contempt overtook her face as a menu was flung in our general direction. Not wanting to try her patience any further, we quickly settled on a regular booth. The waitress was next to pounce, and hurriedly began to press us for a drink order. After the meal, my friend asked to see a menu again in hopes of sampling another roll or two before ordering another cocktail. The waitress seemed confused that we weren't quite ready to leave yet, and dropped off a menu that she would soon try to take away before either one of us had a chance to look at it. It wasn't long before we decided that it would probably be best not to tie this woman up any longer, and just move over to the bar and order instead. So we paid our bill which included a much undeserved tip of well over 20%, and moved to the bar which wasn't much better. The only two people at the bar, suffice it to say, we were pretty much openly ignored the whole time. Three bar tenders were more concerned with standing around, practicing their bottle tricks. When I finally did get a drink, there was lipstick on the glass. Not to mention the place was overrun with children, and parents who enjoyed giving me the evil eye every time I stood outside to smoke. Next time I'll stick with Southside's Nakama.
