Ive have known the Helfer family for over 30yrs as well as have been in the jewelry business for just as long. I stop by Helfers 3 times a week to drop off and pick up jobs because i do not have a full fledge shop and wouldnt take or trust my customers jewelry with anyone else but them. I can understand how it may have seemed to the customer that wrote the prior review but thats not at all what happened and i was there I have nothing to gain by writing this either, just maybe more customers if they chose not to go to Helfers which would be a huge mistake, they are the sweetest most honest family, and they know what there doing. First of all everyone is human and mistakes happen, and it was very unfortunate that it did to these people. But heres the real story. These people lived kinda far and wanted to make one trip to get there ring that day, which can be done. Usually custmers have an appt. and some idea of what they are looking for, these people did not which again is ok, but since Helfers dont usually stock diamonds, they get an idea of what customers looking for in there budget and then get them stones sometimes right away while u wait but for the most part theres usually some communication first. So this was a walk in which there always honored to have because there are so many stores to choose from. They really wanted to get the sale and everything for him that day. So there were several trips made stating from i think a 1.5ct princess and ending up with .70ct round also trying to found a mounting and setting to accomodate totaling 6hrs straight they worked with them. They also had a budget they needed to stay within which they were given a phenomenal price. In the end through the several trips they must of gotten them at least 20 diamonds by the end. THere happen to be two diamonds that day were identical in size and to the naked eye appearence wise, identical looking, but one was lazer inscribed and from a better certification company so it was 800$ more. That was not the diamond the chose because of the budget. They did choose the other and they were given a certificate which was for a d color stone ,no lazer inscription. a couple days later when they started returning the diamonds realizing there was some kind of mistake but really not knowing what had happen or where the mistake was. They then recieved a phone call from the customer About sizing in which Dana asked them to come in to figure if and were the problem was which she shouldve explained better to the customer. Dana had consulted me with tears in her eyes, thus me knowing this whole story . Her goal was to make sure the customer had the correct stone in the ring with the certification they were given. Apparently the customers knew they had a different stone then they bought because they took it somewhere that told them it was lazer inscribed. The Helfers felt horrible but wanted to give them what they purchased and or the choice of the diamond with the lazer inscription which of course they chose,it was a better diamond with 10power magnification so right there they got an $800 more diamond because of there mistake on top of giving them a store credit for the matching wedding band which was 1000$ also. In the end the customer was happy. Helfers lost some money for there mistake but hopefully no customers, and also learned valuble lessons and will approach things differently. It was a very unfortunate mistake and theyve been in business for over 70yrs. I hate to say it but every jeweler big or small has had something like this happen including myself , and thats why i wrote this, Helfers are the best and make u feel like family and i dont think theyve ever had a one time customer because once u get something u always go back. Luv ya guys hope u appreciate me writing this i want a discount next time im in lol........

When my brother asked me to help him shop for an engagement ring, I did a google search & this store got excellent reviews so we decided to check it out. Our shopping experience was a little unorthodox and a LOT disorganized, but the staff was very friendly and we left with a beautiful ring. Of course, she said yes! About two weeks after the purchase, my brother received a call from Dana explaining there was a problem with the diamond certificate and that they'd have to come back in to get it straightened out. To make a VERY long story short - the Helfer family switched out the diamond that was originally purchased and then lied about it....too bad my future sister-in-law had gone to another store & had them write down the laser inscribed number on the original diamond!!!!!! If the Dana & the others had been truthful in the first place and explained that it was an honest mistake, I would not be writing this review. Unfortunately, everyone is left with hurt feelings - especially me since I'm the one who suggested we try this store! I guess our attorney's feelings won't be hurt since he'll get some business........ I could cry! This is supposed to be a happy time!!!!

I was referred to Dana by a coworker and was extremely pleased with my ring and the service.
I had simply brought in a picture of a ring I found online, described the changes I wanted made and they were able to create it from scratch. The steps we went through to get it done were appropriate and made me feel sure I knew what I was getting. Once the ring was made Dana inspected the diamonds on the Halo and wasn't happy with the quality of a couple of them and instead of passing them off and hoping I didn't notice she went and got new ones to replace them with no charge to me. Also, this ring they made for me was about half the price of the one I was looking at online.
This is a family jeweler who does custom work right there in their office. From the front counter I can see back into their workshop. I appreciate this but the downside is that this office is more workshop then jewelry store. You have to know what you want when you go in as there is nothing to browse in cases but they do have samples and stones to get you going in the right direction.

We have been going to HELFER'S JEWELERY in the Clark Building for better than 15 Years. This is a Family run business completely satisfying our expectations each time we have the pleasure of doing business with them. They have custom made pieces for us in the past; but the REAL JEM was the Guidance and Suggestions on My Wife

While the prices were good, the service was not worth it. I would rather pay more then to go back. I went to get my ring resized and they gave it back to me with scratched all over it. Every time I was there I was ignored and treated like a burden. They are rude people and I won't go back!!

My fiance originally went to the Clark building to visit another jeweler. However, they were closing and were no longer doing custom work. They referred us to Helfer Jewelry - and we are very thankful.
We already had diamonds - one from my great grandmother's engagement ring and five single cuts from her grandmother's wedding band. We wanted to combine them in her ring.
First of all, the store isn't like the rest of the jewelry stores in the Clark building with nice fancy showcases. This is a family company - and that feeling was great.
Dana greeted us and helped us from finish to start. She provided the option that we had, and, after the work was started, she called me a couple times to update me on the direction that we had to take.
The end product was absolutely beautiful. My fiance was, and still is, impressed with the work and beauty. It is more beautiful that she imagined it would be.
We have a jeweler for life now and will be returning to have our wedding bands made.
Thank you to Dana, David and Ira for creating a ring that automatically became a family heirloom...we will be seeing you again soon!

I highly recommend David I Helfer Jewelry! The personal attention and skill of everyone there helped make the very difficult decision of selecting an engagement ring one that I could be proud of.
From my first meeting with Ira, he was patient, and gave me a thorough lesson on selecting diamonds and what to look for. In addition to his expert opinions, he was sure to explain ?why,? and made me feel comfortable with each step of the process. He listened to what I was looking for and worked collaboratively to suggest designs I hadn?t seen before.
I currently live in NY, but between trips to Pittsburgh, I was able to work with Ira through emails and phone calls - always with responsive answers, pictures, and recommendations.
The final engagement ring was one that I helped design. It was everything I wanted, and better than I had envisioned. Ira even personally made finishing touches to the ring while we waited.
She loves it! Thank you!

I wanted a ring that was very different, and a show stopper.I went to David J. Heffer in the Clark Bldg, and was greeted by DANA. I explained what I was looking for and she and I came up w/ the creation. The end result was magnificent. The workmanship was superb. DANA was so professional and talented. I wanted a SHOW STOPPER and that's what they created! I was so pleased w/ the end result that I have returned back for them yo do more work for me. Prices also are very reasonable. Thank you DANA --WOW!!!

I would not suggest using this merchant. The service is horrible. I decided to have engagement band made based on reviews in here. WORST DECISION I could have made. They gave us a good price but did not let us know that cheap materials and workmanship would be used. They agreed to fix but never completed. There are many other Jewelry makers in the area to risk the horrible service I've received during this important time. I'm upset that I even have to give one star.

I want to take the time and thank the staff at Helfer's Jeweler for the incredible work they recently did on a ring that I needed done. How well was the work, you ask? Ira and his team took a picture of a ring I was considering and created to exact specification the product I was looking for. What was even more amazing is that I delivered to them donated gold that they melted down, created a mold, and fashioned into an amazing product!
A ring never before created in their shop...was born that day. I have the original...everyone else's will be a copy.
Dana's customer service was both exceptional and exciting. As she often reminded me through the process, ""We will have you as a customer for life!!""
Ira's patience and brillance was awesome. And what can I say about David J...outstanding!!! When I saw the mold, I couldn't have even imagine that the finish product would be that exceptional.
Run, don't walk to David I. Helfer's Jeweler and dream, they will create it and make a lasting memory you will treasure for time to come.

I went to Helfer's for my now fiancee's engagement ring based on the rave reviews from my best friend who had gone to there for his wife's engagement ring, and their wedding bands. They were so impressed with both the service and product that I had to try them.
I wasn't disappointed at all!
They did phenominal work and provided(and still do) such great service that we will be going there for our wedding bands too!
Everyone that has seen the ring has absolutely gushed over it's beauty, and then admire it's craftsmanship when they find out it was completely hand made!
Please, take it from a thoroughly satisfied customer... this is the place to have your jewelry made!
In the off chance that they read this: THANK YOU DAVE AND STAFF... SIMPLY AMAZING WORK!!!

I came to them with an existing diamond and some ideas for an engagement ring. I met with them multiple times and they really took my concerns into account and provided good advice on the three stone emerald and diamond ring they created. When my fiance saw the ring she was speechless and thought it was perfect. They provide great service, and a good price. My fiance and I plan on getting our wedding rings from them.

I want to thank everyone down there for all their help!
I'd been planning on asking my girlfriend to marry me for awhile now, and I finally saved up the money and got the courage to go downtown to pick out a ring.
My best friend had given me a card for David I Helfer Jewelry, and all he told me was that they did good work.
I showed up with only a general idea of what I was looking for. I knew she wanted something like her great grandmother's ring (which was left to her).
They had stacks of binders with EVERY TYPE of ring design imaginable. We looked at hundreds of pictures and drawings with subtle differences in style until I was satisfied with a design that was as unique as I had hoped.
Any style I wanted, or any subtle change in design was always responded with ""Not a problem"" or ""Yes, we can do that"".
They walked me through the processes of picking out the diamonds, and made sure that I was happy with what I was getting.
I even asked for a rush, as we were going to Vegas and that's where I'd hoped to ask her; and I know it put some strain on them, but you'd never know by the quality of ring that I got!!
When I went in to pick it up, everyone in shop just kept smiling at me. I could tell how proud they were of the work they'd done. (Not to mention that they knew how much the ring meant and symbolized for me).
I'm 100% going back down-town to get our wedding bands made!!! And I'm going to pass along the card my friend gave me to the next guy who's looking to get some jewelry made.
For the Quality of work that was done; I walked away feeling as if I was given an ""insider deal"" because of the Value I received for money. But that's just how they treat people there.
I could tell it was a family run shop, and that's the way I was treated. For the great service they did for me, they gained a customer for years to come.
I can't say thank you enough!
She cried when she saw her beautiful ring; she's already received more compliments about it than I can count; Plus it ended up putting her grandmother's ring to shame (in a good way)

I am getting married in 3 1/2 months and wanted to go to the Clark Building, to check out wedding rings and discuss updating my engagement ring. My current engagement ring had a pear shaped diamond was two-toned and the diamond mounting made it impossible to fit a wedding band together to look right. I wanted to make a few changes. My Grandmother had passed away in August and left me 2 diamond rings. I debated on adding the round diamond to my current ring. I went to 2 other jewelry stores and one place lady wouldn't help me and the other jeweler was too pricey.
My Mom met me and said let's stop here when you walk in there are no cases of jewelry out it looks like a workshop. We were greeted by a nice lady and I started telling her what I was interested in having done. Her father and brother David came over to determine what I wanted. David was very attentive and helpful and came up with some cool things that he could do with my ring to update it and obvious this was very sentimental to me with putting my Gram's diamond in the ring. I hated to leave my ring. So this was on a Wed. the ring was ready on Saturday. The ring is gorgeous and just what I wanted. David did an awesome job and was very efficient my ring was beautiful before but now it looks like a brand new ring and just what I wanted! The price was so reasonable. David is so creative and imaginative I love it and me and my fiance are getting our wedding bands designed here. I would highly recommend Helfer's they are the BEST! If it wasn't for my Mom telling me to stop in I would have walked right past. Don't go to an over priced jeweler that sells the same thing elsewhere go here.

When beginning to look at rings, my fiance and I knew we wanted something special and unique. We had two stones that were given to us from his mother, but not a clue about which one was of better quality for a center stone. After reading reviews online and talking to a few friends that had gone into the Helfer store, I knew I had to tell my fiance to go there. He went to the store, had the two diamons taken out of the pair of earrings, and came back with the BIGGEST smile on his face! David had shown and explained why the one stone was better and my fiance couldn't have been more excited! He also looked at a few molds that day and had a particular one in mind. So the next week, both of us went back and looked at several molds based on what type of style I liked, had them draw a few different designs, and after being there for just a short time I picked a mold that I just fell in love with... suprisingly it was the same one my fiance picked out the week before so we knew it was perfect!!! They even let us take the mold home to show both of our mothers! The process of getting it made and paid off (especially since the ring was very reasonably priced for custom work!) was completely stress free! Though my fiance knew very little about rings and stones, they made us feel so comfortable and excited throughout the entire process! Wonderful people, amazing skill, and ultimately the perfect ring for us.... couldn't have asked for anything better! If you want a truly unique ring and want to feel as though it was made just for you go to the Helfers!!!! :)

What a wonderful experience it has been and will be doing business with the Helpher’s. They redesigned my engagement ring, made a special pin like one I own for my new niece, designed a confirmation gift for my daughter, they even helped my son design a engagement ring for his then fiancé. Dana even met us at the Dunkin Donuts one night when I could not get back into town to pick up a gift. I use them exclusively for gifts, repairs etc… Dana, David and Ira are all about helping you. Forget about the sappy commercials on TV and the big box jewelers; visit Helpher’s they will talk with you, help you and you will be happy!!!

My husband and I were engaged at 18 and couldn’t afford a diamond. So, to celebrate our 30th anniversary, my husband decided it was finally time. I walked into Helfer Jewelers feeling a little uneasy about issues like cost, design, quality, etc. Well, Dana greeted us and quickly managed to make us feel comfortable. She was knowledgeable and, more importantly, honest. She helped us pick a perfect diamond for a reasonable price, even though she easily could have taken advantage of our lack of expertise. I cannot say enough about our experience and will certainly return. They are great! Mary-Peg and Jim Miller
