I have lived here for more than a year.The heaters dont work well. There are some places in the apartment that's always colder than the other places. The maintenance guy (John) was very nice and helpful. However, the management company was terrible so as the building manager. Be careful of those "hidden fees"! They wouldn't tell you at first, but if you were to break the lease, you will have to pay half of a month's rent as their "service charge", which isn't even listed in the lease. It makes sense that you have to keep paying for the rent if you break the lease. But to pay for the parking space as well? That is ridiculous. Also, they don't care if people park at your parking space even if you are paying for it. They don't care about your personal difficulties, they just want your money (of course, all management company is like this). Overall, I had a terrible experience staying at this place. I'm very glad that i moved out. Oh and did I mention that their rent is so overpriced?
Emerald Gardens looks like a good place to live at first glance; however as you start living there you see more cons than pros. I will list a couple of them below for prospective tenants. Please keep those in mind before you move here:Cons: 1. The neighborhood is not safe. It is very close to McKees Rocks and Sheraden. I don`t think you can walk around the complex when the sun sets. 2. Heating is a problem in these units. Downstairs is super cold and upstairs is always burning as hell. The way heating has been set up is super weird. During winter make sure you have tons of blankets downstairs. If you have kids as we do that should be very tough.3. The walls are so thin. You can hear every possible conversation of your neighbors and I am pretty sure they hear ours. 4. The units do not have washers and dryers so you have to use the community laundry rooms which are plenty. There are some rude neighbours who dare to touch your clothes or laundry rooms are used by outsiders. Not safe!!!. 5. No place to entertain kids.6. Parking is an issue. Tenants do not have designated parking areas so it is very possible for you to park on other streets and walk to your apt in the middle of the night because your neighbor has 4 cars and they have already blocked the entire court.
These are great apartments. I have lived in my fair share of apartments in the Pittsburgh area and these are not only very reasonably priced, but also beautiful and well maintained. You get the feel of a suburban life while remaining within a 15 minute commute to downtown. The management is amazing and very kind. I've never had any issues with maintenance and when I need something fixed they are always prompt. When we moved in the apartments was absolutely SPOTLESS. I don't think I've ever moved in anywhere so clean and well maintained. We are moving in a month and believe me we are sad to go. If you are looking for a great apartment in the 'Burgh look no further. Seriously.

I ABSOLUTELY HATED LIVING HERE! I stayed here for a year while I finished my education at the mortuary school down the street. Heres my list of whys:1. parking is a horror, for the amount that I paid to live here I should not be getting so upset every. single. day. just to find a parking space. Half of the lot is given to "leased" parking which isn't available to those that live here and is never ever near full. Forget about the parking garage, the card reader is like 100 years old and practically broke each time I used it because it wouldn't read my card and I had to jam the thing into the reader!!2. the apartment itself is a frustration. The cabinets stick and I practically lost a nail or ended up with a splinter every time I opened one. They are always working on the damn building!! I don't think there is ever a time where I don't hear a jack hammer or drill first thing in the morning. That is where all of this rent money is going! Half of the repairs that are done are useless and unnecessary. When I first moved in I had tons and tons of boxes that I needed to get rid of and I called the office to ask for help, like it said in my lease. Well, surprise surprise they wanted to charge me!! God forbid I was a little old lady who couldn't do that on my own! Needless to say, I brought the boxes down by myself..... All this place wants is money for everything! Don't even dare leaving your stovetop dirty when you move out, that'll be a 50 dollar charge...3. Moving out is the biggest pain in the world! They program the elevator so it only goes to the floor where your stuff is and then to where you are moving in. Well, you're lucky if some ------ that lives here doesn't take the elevator because then it gets stuck on their floor and you have to go retrieve it. Also, you're lucky if the maintenance crew doesn't steal the elevator away from you and let anyone use it. When I moved from the my apartment up to my boyfriends a few floors up, the maintenance guy (who was very very rude to me) kept pestering us every 30 mins about when we would be done and then he just shut the thing off on us! So, we just held the elevator up and it would beep over and over until we finally took it where we needed to. In conclusion, I would not recommend this place. Find something cheaper and less frustrating in the area.
