The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. My dissatisfaction is with the never-ending emphasis on pushing clients to purchase lenses and frames (and procedures). What is supposed to be a medical exam always ends up feeling like a sales seminar. I understand that a large part of their profit comes from the sale of lenses and frames, but they don't take no for an answer; it's relentless.

I too am very surprised by the negative ratings posted here, so much that I have to comment (which I rarely do). I have been a patient of Chang Eye Group for at least 15 years and have experienced nothing but professional, prompt and courteous service. I have recommended them to friends who also are pleased. My entire family of four are regulars, and between us we have experience with everything from ophthalmology to contacts. It seems a lot of the bad reviews have to do with insurance issues, in my experience vision coverage from any provider is notoriously poor. That's not the doctor's fault.
My husband was told last Fall his cataracts were ready to be removed. He was scheduled for mid Feb for one eye and the beginning of Mar., for the second eye. The insurance did not cover his optic lenses. So $1700 out of pocket. Then a $200 fee, then another 175.00 again not covered. (These are for the first eye! The $$$ would not be as significant , but his first eye got inflamed. His second eye has blurry vision. We were told both of these are "part of the healing process". In addition, including an exam required before sugery by the PCP, there have been 11 visits to get this done! Another apptmt. still to come to get glasses! Good thing he is retired!
I scheduled appointments for contact lense exams for my daughter's while they had a day off from school. Not to mention their contacts were in need of a new pair, to make long story short, this company tried to SCAM AN ADDITIONAL $100+ ON TOP OF WHAT THEY'RE INSURANCES WERE ALREADY COVERING. Then after i was suspect that something wasn't right, I asked for the exam prescriptions to go elsewhere since that part of their insurance was legit, they underhandedly without my knowledge gave me eyeglass prescriptions instead and told me that since i wouldn't pay the additional money they wanted, they would not release their contact exam prescriptions for me to go elsewhere. I immediately called my insurance company and sure enough GATEWAY EYE ASSOCIATES WERE TRYING TO SCAM ME FOR ADDITIONAL MONEY. I did not have copay for an exam, and i wwould never have known if i weren't suspicious that something wasn't right. If i were to have paid the additional money i wouldn't have gotten any of itback.
I had cataract surgery on Sept 3 2014 and it is now Dec 2 2014 and it is still NOT HEALED OR RIGHT! I am so so so sooooooory I had it done for I could see fine and never had pain or discomfort in my right eye till I had the surgery. I am sick about this!
I am shocked to see the negative reviews! I've been a patient at chang eye group for years and have nothing but praise for the practice. The most important thing is the utmost concern for your vision. They are very proactive when it come to any future problems they may be concerned about. I was also very disappointed that Dr. Lishko left, but the care I've received since then has been top notch.
Avoid this eye doctor at all cost...and it does cost a lot! The worst customer relationship/ service that I have ever encountered for a health professional. Unreturned phone calls, speaking down to me! Awful!
“Dr.” Troy M. Karlik is a huge imbecile! He wouldn’t make eye contact and that should’ve been the first red flag. He treated me like I was a huge burden and was completely rude. He announced, with the door open and people in the waiting area, that I might have glaucoma. He was completely insensitive about it. Instead of telling me what the next steps should be or reassuring me, he bashed the people who did my Lasik procedure and tried to blame my parents for the possible glaucoma – sorry, no one in my family has it. Oh and when you dilate someone’s eyes, it’s best to tell them what’s going on, what to expect, etc. That’s what a good doctor does but how can I expect you to understand that? Karlik is completely incompetent and I truly hope this operation gets shut down.
Stay away-referred by Passavant ER when a pressure washer malfunctioned & chemicals splashed in eyes-saw 1 doc at 330- who did not use 1 medical word w/me so I had NO idea what damage was done or prognosis! Then had to be seen the following a.m. & saw another doc who is totally opposite - pompous is the nicest word- I found him to be very condescending, didn't really give me a chance to tell him how I'm feeling, what changed, that I was NOT able to get eye drops NOR did he care-that was OBVIOUS! When I went to talk, he spoke OVER ME as if what I had to say was of NO relevance- But... amazingly I'm guessing w/his crystal ball & imagination he was able to tell me that I had made a PHENOMENAL improvement since the day B4- So I made an appt to see another practice in the N Hills that has HIGH RATINGS near Passavant/Corporate Drive.
