Vaccination
We love to see new faces and meet new patients! If you are bringing a kitten or puppy for the first time we will go over the initial vaccination series with you when you come in. Please bring any paperwork that you received when you obtained your pet (from the shelter or breeder or rescue organization) as this will help us to set up the record properly and to make appropriate recommendations while you are there. If you are transferring from another veterinary office please let us know if you would like us to call to get records from the previous veterinarian. The more things we take care ahead of time, the longer we can spend with you and your dog or cat.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
I grew up just down the road in Sanford, NC and started volunteering at a local veterinary hospital at age 12. My love for this career continued to grow and I ultimately graduated from NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. My focus through the years has been centered around soft tissue surgery but cardiology, ophthalmology and emergency medicine have also been areas of extra study. I have two dogs and two cats that help keep my little farm in Sanford happy as well as a huge family all over Lee County.

This is a test for intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms, coccidia, and giardia. These parasites can be obtained without your knowledge and can have a very adverse effect on their health of your pet. Some of them can potentially be transmitted to humans as well, so we consider this to be a very important test.

Ear Infection Treatment
Sometimes test results are needed more quickly than a reference laboratory can provide them and in those cases Hill Creek is happy to be able to offer in-house laboratory services for parasite detection, urinalyses, blood panels and blood cell counts. We also perform cytologic examinations for ear infections and skin infections as well as some tumors.
Anal Gland Infection Treatment
During the normal course of an outpatient visit a member of our technical staff will visit with you and your pet to obtain a history. She will then escort the patient to the treatment area to be weighed, have vital signs taken, take any samples that are needed, and perform procedures such as nail trims or anal gland expression. Your pet will then be returned to you and the veterinarian will come in to do an exam and discuss a diagnostic and treatment plan. We try to anticipate anxiety-producing situations and customize each patient’s experience for their comfort and to minimize their stress. Sometimes we find that a different routine works better for a particular patient, so we may revise the sequence slightly. If you have any concerns regarding your pet’s temperament or previous experiences at the vet and would like us to do things differently, please let us know.

During any surgical procedure the goal is to maintain normal physiologic parameters such as blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, and oxygen exchange. This is extremely important to minimize risk to the patient. For that reason all patients undergoing inhalant anesthetic procedures are placed on IV fluids to maintain blood pressure, are kept warm with a circulating warm water blanket or a warmed surgical table, and are monitored continuously before, during, and after the procedure. The surgical suite at Hill Creek is equipped with a heated surgical table, a physiologic monitor (which includes an EKG, a pulse oximeter (measures oxygenation of blood), a blood pressure monitor, and a temperature probe), and 2 isoflurane anesthesia machines. Anesthetic protocols are tailored to the age and health status of an individual animal, and pain is managed using appropriate medications during and after the surgery. Most importantly your pet is monitored continuously by a dedicated trained professional (either a licensed technician or a veterinarian) who has the knowledge, training and experience to respond appropriately should a problem arise.

Chinese herbal therapy involves giving plant-based herbal formulas to pets in order to treat a variety of health problems, such as kidney disease, liver disease, hormonal imbalances such as diabetes, and others. Herbal therapies can be used alone but are often used in conjunction with acupuncture.

This is done under general anesthesia, and all of the precautions and safeguards mentioned on ( Our Surgical Services page ) are in place during these routine procedures. Sometimes teeth are found to be broken or diseased and extraction of a tooth or multiple teeth may be recommended. Laboratory Services
Lab testing is a very important tool in diagnosis of injury and disease. Hill Creek Vet Hospital utilizes several veterinary reference laboratories to assist in diagnosis of infectious, metabolic, endocrine, and neoplastic disease. Routine testing such as fecal flotation tests, heartworm antigen (or antibody) tests, and wellness blood panels are generally sent out as well. Reference laboratory testing can have a turnaround time of anywhere from 1 to 7 days pending on the test being run. A veterinarian or a team member will contact you with the results when they become available.

She is also well-versed in shave downs, puppy trims, and summer cuts for the warmer months. Your pets will be well-kept with Sabrina’s preciseness in bathing, de-matting, and trimming unwanted pet hairs in hard to reach places. She is skilled in cat grooming, as well.
