The Ohio State Highway Patrol seeks to protect life and property, promote traffic safety and provide professional public safety services to the citizens of Ohio. The patrol offers statewide emergency response and support services to the public and criminal justice community. It investigates criminal activities on state-owned and leased property throughout, as well as performs security operations for the governor and other dignitaries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, which is administrated by a director who holds a cabinet-level position in state government. The patrol maintains a uniformed force of nearly 1,400 officers, as well as approximately 1,000 support staff members that include driver examiners, load limit, motor vehicle and motor carrier enforcement inspectors, dispatchers, electronics technicians and civilian specialists. It maintains a location in Piqua, Ohio.
