Founded in 1998, the Pinckneyville Correctional Center is a detention facility that covers an area of more than 140 acres and houses over 2,000 inmates. It is a nearly 430,000-square-foot facility that consists of approximately 15 buildings. The center features more than five housing units and employs over 450 full- and part-time state and contractual staff members. It offers a range of educational classes and training programs in the areas of parenting, skills development, job interviewing and employment retention. The center additionally provides college certification and computer technology programs for its inmates. It offers medication, plant maintenance and transportation services. The Pinckneyville Correctional Center is a part of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
