Great authentic Chinese food served in clean attractive surroundings. The wait help was happy to describe the dishes to us - there are so many noodle dishes their suggestions were both necessary and welcome. After he had gone over the menu selections our waiter listened to what we wanted and found some pan fried noodles that met our meet our needs with just a little tweaking. I am very partial to the skinny noodles that can be difficult to find in Arizona. Seafood seems to be a specialty of the house. They have tanks of living seafood in the restaurant, so you're guaranteed it is fresh. The roast duck was cooked to a turn and had very tasty crisp skin. We also ordered a medium spicy eggplant dish that was delicious. The house fried rice had BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp and vegetables in it - yummy. At lunch carts loaded with dim sum tidbits circulate throughout the restaurant. The servers will spend time describing the dumplings and other goodies to you. Everything we tried was wonderful. The tiny custard pies were the perfect way to finish off our meal.
I have been eating at Abacus Inn for the past 20 years. In that time, this restaurant has gone through several owner ships. The food is of superb quality, and of very large portions. Their prices remaining in a lower level range with the economy ( reasonable ). They have had a considerable staff turn over in the past couple of years. But for good reasons. To answer the below reviews, The food can be prepared anyway you like it. This being said, ( extra veggies, spicier, more wontons in the soup, more sauce, sweeter , just about any way you prefer it . Just ask your waiter. The restraunt is very clean, and the owner will listen to any legitimate complaint . He also takes care of them. Try Abacus Inn, You will not be disappointed. Also, they have the best Chinese soup in the city of phoenix. Especially their Hot and Sour soup. Their delivery service is tops. Just remember to ask and thou shall receive. Twains3007
I was very surprised at the last review because I have never experienced anything like that at this buffet. My husband and I are huge Chinese Buffet fans, but when we found this one, we were sold. They have the Sushi bar that always has a guy there making food fresh, along with all the favorites that you can expect from an Asian buffet. Their prices are definitely reasonable, at $6.99 for lunch and $10.99 for dinner. Dinner also includes all my husband's favorite sea foods, such as crab legs, muscles, oysters and many more. The service has always been helpful for us and actually friendly on top of that! The food quality is very high and I have yet to be disappointed by it. I have been to many of these Asian buffets all over the valley with my husband, but ever since we discovered Shanghai Buffet, we never go anywhere else!
Canton Wong 2 is hands down the best inexpensive Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. The food is fantastic and more authentic than similar Chinese restaurants. It has been under the same ownership for several years and the family really values their customers. Since the current owners have been there Canton Wong 2 has not been affiliated with the other Canton Wong restaurants in Phoenix- something I learned the hard way (the others are not as good) Service is always friendly and efficient. The little Chinese lady who works out front is constantly cleaning and mopping with a mop that is bigger than she is so the place is always clean. Delivery is prompt and reliable. You really can't beat this place.
Since the last review from 2005, this establishment has closed. I went by there today (July 19, 2008) and there was a For Sale sign and hand written note on the door. Sorry We Closed. Someone had put up another sign for another chinese resturant 5 miles west (also on Bell Road), but because the other establishment had a diffrent name it was most likely another business trying to profit from another's closing. It is sad for me because I had eaten at China Star for 10 years and the food was usually good, but of late had gone down a little in quality compared to its very high standards when it opened. The food was exceptional for the bargin pricing. My children and I will miss China Star.
This was our first time eating at this place. The negative review made me think twice about eating here. The selection of food is awesome and the food and service was really good. The price of the food was only 6.99 + drink minus the coupon. We came here to celebrate my wife's best friends birthday. They played a song, took pictures and even gave us a cake for free. The only thing that would cause anyone to not like this place is if you waste a lot of food they may charge you an addidtional fee.
There is a lot to choose from. It is convienently located and the food is always fresh. We have gone there 10+ occasions and have reconmended this place to friends and families. We have small children and do not get out often to eat without them. This is truly a great value for the cost and flavor. My girls love the food, I personally go for the Sushi and fried bananas. My husband fav is the grill. We have never been hassled by the staff or customers.
I live in the neighborhood, but even if I didn't, I would travel back to this place. I ususally get a "to go crate" and I stuff it full of as many as I can of the wide variety of authenic tasting Chinese dishes. The cost had never been more than $6.50 for all this, and I think it's well worth it. Buffet is about $8.00 which is cheap by my standards. They always have several types of beef, chicken, shrimp, and fish that are all excellently prepared.
The waitresses and staff are so friendly and helpful here! I have been celebrating my mom's birthday here for three years and the back room is ideal to reserve! We even had "Happy Birthday" song in Chinese! Choices of food is great and served well. Place is so clean and it is only three years old so I don't think the next reviewer was really there, as the carpets were brand new then and still look brand new.
This is the best chinese buffet in Phoenix. The food is always fresh. They have a great sushi bar and lot's of crab legs and oysters and other shell fish. We have also been to Crazy's in Tempe and they are very similar and are both very good. This one is a less expensive so with that said we prefer this one. For the low price you can't beat the food any where.
