Staying organized on moving day is key, and planning is a big part of it. Keep this checklist handy before and during your move to keep things stress-free.

I really appreciate Cardinal Movers job. They were clear with the information all the time, no lies, no hidden fees. I told them I was on a budget and they gave me tips on how to reduce the cost of the move. When the moving crew arrived, they immediately started working, disassemble my furniture, packed everything very carefully and in a matter of no time, my items were in the truck ready to go. The movers were pretty efficient, strong and professional, they always remain with a good attitude, were as punctual so I did not have to chaise them trying to find out at what time they were arriving. Great movers all in all. The customer service department is fantastic, they were always keeping in touch with me as far as were my shipment was located, they got a great upbeat attitude all the time. Delivery date arrive and the delivery crew… fantastic. They reassemble all the items again, removed blankets, cartons to uncover my furniture; they were very cooperative and helpful. I don’t have enough words to say how pleased I am with the service that Cardinal Movers provided to me. I will recommend them for sure.
So I read all the reviews because I wanted to do my due diligence before choosing a mover. I've never used a mover before and I didn’t know what to look for and I also needed to do it on the cheap. It seemed like every mover had the same mix of bad vs. good reviews and having experience with HR and labor issues I know that a few bad employees can sour a lot of customers and ruin it for the good employees so I figured I'd just have to pick a cheap mover and hope I got the good ones. I will admit that I don’t have a baby grand piano or Tiffany jewels and my predominantly IKEA furniture can take a scratch or two so I didn’t have much to lose here. That being said, I was more than happy with my choice. They showed up on time, were extremely helpful and friendly, didn’t milk the clock, and didn’t break anything. Some reviews said they charged for stairs but they didn’t which was good because my old place and new place are both 2 stories. The cost was what they quoted and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them – just make sure to ask for Joe and Will.
These guys are definitely the best movers I've ever used. Skilled: Not only do they handle every item, including my big, heavy, awkward couch, with ease and speed, but they know how to make sure nothing is scratched or damaged. Watching them run up and down stairs with two boxes on their back is fun, but watching them quickly and skillfully wrap furniture, move delicates out of the way, and cover surfaces that might get scratched just puts your mind at ease. Professional: Completely honest and upfront, including if they're not sure how long a job will take. Several times they offered to let me do something myself because it would save me money. (I never took them up on that. :) And they've always made sure to call me back, show up when they say they will, and be totally transparent with me. Friendly: They're just good guys. It goes a long way. :) I haven't compared exhaustively, but it seems like they charge a premium over other moving companies because they're the best. I'm happy to pay it, and tip well too.
AZ Move For Less moved me last month from Scottsdale to Glendale where I currently live in my 4 bd, 2 story home. I had every intention on writing a review for them after the move but due to me having to go out of state just days after the move for a last minute business meeting. I had completely forgotten all about it. Today, when I went to do my review & I seen they had a couple of old not so positive reviews. I do have to say that circumstances must have changed since those reviews were done because I had a completely different experience when I dealt with the company. I called 2-3 days prior to me needing to move to get a quote & I decided to book with them because so far they had given me the best quote & I was tired of calling around. They confirmed the day before & showed up at the scheduled time with their truck and workers. I was very pleased with their work ethic & courteous employees they did my move without any problems whatsoever & they worked very hard. Thanks again. Fred
2 men were at my house on time, got started RIGHT on schedule, did a walk-through to take inventory of what was being moved. Everything associated with the actual move was done relatively smoothly - however, the crew leader kept hinting that he's working so fast and hard so we will give them a bigger tip. he mentioned about 10 times in the 5 hours they were moving/unloading that if it werent for tips, they wouldnt be at the job, and the REALLY good days, they make 100$ an hour.... i find that extremely rude to put so much pressure on the client for a good tip - not to mention, most likely a complete exaggeration. a few cons: did not put my bed frame together properly, got my microfiber couch extremely dirty because they did not wrap it. dinged up a few tables. We're about half way through the unpacking process, and did not find one thing broken. so, in my opinion, things went pretty smoothly.
I have recently used Dircks Moving to move me and my family locally and I can't say enough great things about this company! The guys that came to my house were professional, clean and treated my furniture as if it belonged to them. I had moved several times before with "friends and trucks" and this time decided to save myself the stress and use a moving company. I could not be more impressed and will never move myself again. The guys came in, protected my doorways, hallways, floors and anything they felt may have a chance of getting scuffed. I only moved accross town but they way the loaded and wrapped my belongings you would have thought I was moving accross the country. My moving consultant stayed in touch with me during the entire process and made sure that I was completely satisfied with my move. I strongly recommend this company for a stress free move they are top quality movers!
I highly recommend using Dircks Moving Services for your office. Moving can be such a hassle and a very stressful experience. That's what everyone told me as we prepared for our move last spring. But finding Dircks made the difference, and instead of worrying about the whole ordeal, every detail was handled by my Dircks rep Brandon, and the move went off without a hitch. Any little issues that arose throughout the process were handled immediately. And considering how complicated it could have been since we actually had to move in 3 different stages, and how much we really did have to move after 20 years in one location, we were amazed at how reasonable the cost was. If you need to make a change and move your business, do yourself a big favor and call Dircks for an estimate. Then pick them to do the job for you-it will be one less headache for you to deal with.
I wanted to share my thoughts and gratitude to Cardinal Moving Systems for the service and caring that they have displayed during our move. We were in the middle of a short sale to purchase our new home, but as any of you would know short sales are plagued with problems and delays. Turns out we had to change our moving dates 4 times over 3 months and each time Frank my sales rep at Cardinal Moving Systems accommodated our request with a smile and reassurance. I also wanted to note we were never charged for all those date changes. The crew that arrived to pick up my items was fantastic they took tremendous care of my belongings and made sure to prepare my house so they didn’t damage my walls or hardwood floors. I used Cardinal Moving Systems from my relocation from Boise ID- Hawaii. I got many moving quotes from different companies but I chose Cardinal Movers, because they were closer to my budget. I was kind of worry at the beginning because usually when you pay less money things can go totally wrong “ you get what you pay for” But no in this case, the service was amazing. They send me a truly professional crew who took great care of my belongings, they were always ready to help and answer all my questions. They packed my items pretty fast and by noon they finish getting my items ready and in the truck. After a total of 3 weeks I receive my items here in Honolulu. Everything came fine, so I got a great service for a great price. If I ever move again I will definitely call Cardinal Movers again.
Without going in to detail I moved 2 times in the past 14months and each time I used SW Movers. I've been very happy with their service. The first time was great, the second time was good but not as good as the first. They sent some dude that had a really bad limp. I asked him what happened to his leg and he said he was shot. Hmmm that didnt make me feel to good since he was in my house but he was a nice guy. Just not as fast as the first two guys they sent me. This weekend will be the third and final time since we now bought a house. I asked them to send me their best so we'll see how it goes but like I said both times I've used them it was well worth the money. I'm going 4 stars for now. I'll write another review after this weekend and see if they get 5.

In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.
Are you making a big move and trying to figure out exactly how much you should plan to spend? Or are you on a tight budget and looking to hire a mover who can keep costs low? Either way, it's important to understand how exactly moving companies charge their customers.
As mentioned above, for local moves, companies will charge based on the number of movers they provide and the amount of time they'll need to spend on the project. Generally, the more rooms in your apartment or house, the more movers and time you can expect to be charged for. The price of long-distance or interstate moves, on the other hand, will be based on the amount of belongings you have - and more specifically the weight of those belongings. The heavier the boxes or items you're shipping across state or country lines, the more expensive your move will be.

No matter what type of move you're making, you can reach out to prospective moving companies for estimates - this is the best way to determine how expensive your move will be based on where you live and what services you're looking for. Typically, the moving company will send someone to your home who will do a walk through of each room, making note of the furniture, valuables and other belongings in each one. Then, he or she will provide an estimate. The exact amount you pay may, however, be different from the amount declared in the estimate. That's where the type of contract comes in.
Nonbinding vs. Binding Contracts
For any move, a company will ask you to sign a contract. It's crucial to know exactly what type of contract you're signing, though, to understand how much you can expect to pay. In basic terms, there are two types of moving contracts: binding and nonbinding. Binding, as well as binding not-to-exceed, contracts are the most preferable for people hiring movers. These list an estimated price the moving company cannot charge more than. So, even if your local move takes an hour longer or your belongings are heavier than expected for an interstate move, you're still only responsible for paying a fixed amount.
Nonbinding contracts, on the other hand, have no fixed final number. Instead, they list a rate - by the hour or by the pound/kilo - and you're responsible for paying exactly how much your move costs in those terms.

For example, a full-service move that includes packing and unpacking will be pricier than a local move that only includes loading the truck, driving it to the new home and unloading it.

If you're asking your movers to transport large, hard-to-move items, like pianos, for instance, you'll likely pay an extra fee. Likewise, if your apartment building doesn't have an elevator or the truck has to be parked far from your home, you may be charged extra. Ask about these potential expenses when signing your contract.
Don't rush through the process of hiring a moving company. Make sure the movers you hire are dependable, reputable and the right fit for your needs.
Look for Reviews and Recommendations
When hiring movers, it's a good idea to both look at reviews online and ask your friends and family members for recommendations. Personal endorsements will go a long way toward helping you determine whether you can expect the company to do a quick and professional job.
Choose Top Candidates
As you're vetting candidates through reviews and recommendations, narrow your selection to three or four top options. Make sure the companies offer the type of move you're looking for, whether it's interstate or local. These three or four companies are who you'll contact for estimates.
Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions
After receiving estimates, you'll have a better idea which companies are within your budget. However, this isn't the only factor you should use when choosing movers, especially for more complicated jobs. In fact, you may be willing to pay a little more to hire quality movers who can ensure the safety of your belongings. Don't be afraid to call these companies and ask questions.
During the hiring process, you want to make sure of three things: First, that the moving company is reputable and has the proper licensing and insurance. Second, that the movers are dependable, professional and committed to doing the job correctly. Finally, that the estimate provided is binding and that you're aware of any potential excess costs. With these factors in mind, here are some of the most important questions to ask a moving company:

Call the FMCSA
For long-distance or interstate moves, you can easily check that companies have the proper licensing and insurance, which is a clear indication that they're legitimate. All interstate moving companies must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so call 888-368-7238 to confirm the licenses, insurance and credentials of the movers you're considering. The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.
One of the most common fears people face when moving to a new home is that something they own will be lost or damaged in the process. While no company will be able to guarantee everything arrives safely, there are steps you can take to make damage less likely.
Pack and Transport Your Valuables
If you have items that are emotionally or financially valuable to you, do your best to pack and move them yourself. Keep jewelry, expensive artwork, inherited valuables and even costly electronics in your own car - that way you'll have complete control over their safety at all times.
Choose a Moving Company That Plans Ahead
Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.
Keep the Moving Area Safe
There are some things you can control on moving day and some things you simply can't, such as the weather. If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. This can help protect both the movers and the large items they're carrying to and from the truck.
The subject of tipping is relatively unclear when it comes to movers. However, there is a general rule of thumb that most people in the industry agree on: Tip your movers if they've done a good job and you think a tip is warranted.
Generally, a 5 percent tip is considered appropriate, though some people recommend paying $20 per day, per mover for basic, local moves. However, almost everyone agrees you should first do a quick walk-through of your home to check for any damage to your furniture or belongings and to make sure everything is where you'd like it to be.
If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
