The emerald club process is the best experience I have ever had in renting a car. It was quick and easy to locate and select a vehicle. It took five minutes to go from the bus drop-off to driving away and three of those minutes were walking to the garage. Returning the car was a similarly easy process and took less than two minutes. I will definitely use National Car Rental again.
I've been an Emerald Club member for ~10 years now, and this rental was one of my worst experiences. Although I had a reservation, there was nothing but minivans available in the Emerald Club aisle. I was finally brought a low end Hyundai, but not the quality of vehicle or the service I was expecting.
I always use National Car and this last rental really drove home why I do. We were on vacation on Phoenix visiting family. We accidentally left an Ipad under the seat of the car we rented. National Car found it, and emailed me letting me know what they found and how I wanted to get it back; mail it or pick it up. I was very impressed by the fact that it was turned in at all. I figured as soon as someone found it, it would be gone. Obviously National Car is a great place for renting cars but also employees honest people with integrity! How refreshing!
The employees at Phoenix airport have significant room for improvement. I made my reservation for this car far in advance. When I arrived at the airport, there was a long line of people waiting for cars. NONE were in the lot. We had to wait for 4 employees to go run and get cars and come back. When the 4 showed up, you took what was available. There was no attempt to try to provide what people had asked for. It was a cluster. I waited more than 20 minutes. Others waited far longer. An employee explained that 50 cars had been reserved that hour and they were having a hard time catching up. This means someone didn’t look at the reservations ahead of time and make sure there were plenty of cars available in the lot. This is unacceptable. People make reservations for a reason. This was exceptionally poor planning. My company has two contracts with rental car companies. I will go back to using the other carrier. I decided to ‘try’ National and regret that decision.
