I was watching the news on the night of August 17th 2011, which turned out to be one of the worst nights of my wife and I’s life. I saw that my son was a wanted felon. Our lives fell apart that night we did not know what to do. I called my brother, a 30 year Detective from New York. He told me that I needed to get a hold of my son and turn him in. I did finally get a hold of my son and convinced him that he needed to turn himself in or he would be dead very shortly either by the drugs he was on or by the police. The next morning happened to be the luckiest day of our lives. I was at work and Googled for a lawyer. Just by the pure grace of GOD I happened to see Suzuki Law Firm. I called and set up a day that we could bring in my son. The first thing he and his associates said to us that they understood what we were going thru and that they would do their very best to help us. I consider myself a good judge of character and the feeling of comfort they gave us was more than we thought we would ever get. The first thing RJ said to my son was he wanted to hear the truth and no BS. Which is what my son told him. Our hearts broke when we heard the complete story. Which I don’t think we would have ever heard if RJ wasn’t there. Mr. Suzuki did not give us any false pretenses at what my son was looking at. We were told he could be going away for a long time for what he had done, but they were going to do nothing less than their best to help us get our son back. Then they took him to the FBI office and did not see our son until for a few weeks in the Federal Court House. While awaiting trial RJ fought to have our son put into a halfway house RHI. Our son was there for nine months and passed with flying colors. Then came for the Pre Trial sentencing which RJ was a part of. Our son finally came home before the sentencing. In the meantime RJ worked furiously to get the charges reduced, which he did. All during this going on RJ kept us abreast every week what was going on. He never lied to us he just told us the truth and what to expect. Well my son with the help of RJ got to get a plea deal. During the sentencing the judge was going to give our son the maximum of the range scale. RJ argued that my son had turned his life around and was a new person whom the prosecutor who also wanted the maximum of the scale agreed with RJ and changed her mind that day in court. RJ also got the judge to recommend that my son could self-surrender in 30 day’s and also recommend that he be given the 500 hour drug program which could reduce our son’s sentence from 9 to 12 months. We all knew that our son was going to do some time and RJ never ever gave us false hope of our son getting off scott free. Our son could have been going away for a very long time. My brother keeps telling us how lucky we got compared to what could have been. We owe RJ and his associates a debt of gratitude that I feel we can never repay. By the grace of GOD we got very lucky choosing SUZUKI LAW FIRM and we will never ever use anyone. Let’s hope we never have to. If you have any doubts you can get my phone number from RJ and I am more than willing to talk to you personally. That is the least I could to families that are going through what we went thru.
Well where do I start, I had an attorney prior to my attorney now and she did not represent me right, never returned my calls, addressed none of my concerns in the court room, which I can honestly say put my daughter in harms way by her lack of professionalism and charged me ALOT of money! Then I inquired online with several attorneys and was skeptical of every single one, UNTIL I found Steven E Sufrin, he is awesome. Steve called me back first thing in the morning and LISTENED to what I was saying, RESPONDED to my questions very directly making it clear how knowlegable he is, he knows his stuff, no sugar coating or manipulation either, he just said look, this is what needs to be done, this is the next step, he told me stop freakin out he'll take care of it, let's do this! Which I have to admit at that point in my case I was a wreck. I came into his office that day, gave him all my paperwork, and he has held up to his word ever since! He keeps me informed on everything I need to know, but at the same time he doesn't contact me unecessarily to rack up my bill, but most importantly HE is THERE when I need him! Steve has been doing divorce/family court cases for 20+ years so he's definetly been around the block... which makes him very versatile in his profession and his ability to represent his clients well, as every case is unique in it's own way. I've seen him in the court room on multiple occassions, he's always early or on time,he's prepared, suited up and lookin sharp. During the hearings, he addresses my concerns, is very attentive to what the other party and the judge is stating, ensuring that nothing slips through the cracks, he is ALWAYS practical and uses a lot of common sense and knowledge when he represents me, yet he is also respectfully aggressive if necessary to defend me. Keep in mind each case is different, so retainers can vary, but out of 15 inquiries he was the lowest amount to retain which I appreciated being a single mom of two. Honestly I have a very complicated case and he truly has made the MOST out the money I have given him, which makes every penny worth it! Always save the best for last right? Well here's the best part about Steve and it may take you meeting him to believe it. Steve is not that money grubbing, nickle and diming stereo-typical attorney, he does his job with ease and it's obvious he does it for the children and the families best interest, during the most stressful and difficult time in my life, he looked out for my child and relieved 10,0000 pounds of weight off my back, he allowed me to continue on with my life and be a mother during these horrific court proceedings, and sleep at night knowing that legally my child's welfare and future is in good hands! Do yourself a favor, just call for a consult... you'll see what I mean! Steven E Sufrin 480-947-5595 email@example.com 4050 E. Greenway Rd Ste#3 Phoenix, AZ 85032
REFERRAL/TESTIMONIAL: Outstanding Representation and Service I came to the Bishop Law Office in the winter of 2007 during the most difficult and stressful time of my life. When my husband delivered the news that he was divorcing me, I was a stay-at-home mother of three children and had only worked part-time jobs for almost 20 years. I had consultations with two other law firms before coming to the Bishop Law Office, and the previous firms’ assessment of my situation was very grim and discouraging. I was given very blunt and unkind advice about the likely outcome of a divorce settlement, and clearly, I was in serious trouble. Needless to say, I was even more terrified and distraught over my pending divorce. My call to the Bishop Law Office led me to Barbara Fuqua, and the staff assured me that she had the expertise and experience to guide me through a complicated divorce and the fair division of my share of my husband’s military retirement. Barbara Fuqua agreed to take my case, and immediately, I felt relief and reassurance that I had expert legal representation on my side. As the divorce proceedings dragged on, my ex-husband and his attorney were extremely difficult and unpredictable. Ms. Fuqua stood right by my side and ensured that my children and I were protected with a fair and equitable settlement in property division, spousal support, and child support. She was always available to answer my questions and her knowledge and expertise in family law was the key to the positive outcome of my settlement. When Ms. Fuqua represented me in court proceedings, it was very obvious that she was well known and well respected by the judges, mediators, and court personnel. It has been a year since my divorce was final, and every contingency that I could face in terms of visitation, support, and even taxes was addressed properly and clearly stated in the divorce decree. This has eliminated misunderstandings and creative interpretations of the settlement and has prevented the need for further expensive legal actions. I highly recommend Ms. Fuqua when facing a difficult legal/Family Law challenge. I was lucky to have found her, and I have been able to build a new life for my family with confidence and financial security. I couldn’t have managed it without Barbara Fuqua and her exceptional legal team. Sincerely yours, Paige Engelson
Dear Prospective Client: The past couple of years from 2007 through 2008 were undoubtedly the most difficult years of my life due to the ramifications of divorce. I learned that every divorce case is different and will develop a path of it’s own. No matter what the circumstances are, it can be made much easier with constructive education and the right legal advisor by your side. I can assure you that Angela Peacock was the right fit for me. I can recall many aspects of my divorce becoming a nightmare with an overwhelming amount of paperwork and a battle of emotions, stress and so on so forth. Angela was able to help me focus and put all the distortion into perspective. I admit that I was not the easiest person to listen to with my stubborn attitude during that difficult time. Consequently, she was keenly sensible to start by educating me first and then helping me become organized for the sake of myself. I assure it was no easy task for her either. She is a professional advisor in that arena and her expertise made all the difference on the outcome of my case. She had the ability to analyze my case so as to help me see what was reasonable while also predicting the various results depending on my actions. I also think Angela was at times more aware and concerned about my legal fees than me. Divorce is not easy for anyone including the attorney that is trying to help you. Angela gained my trust by treating me with respect while staying firm to what was necessary for getting the job done. I found her to be very mature in her approach and she demanded what was required for the most successful outcome. I had to remind myself that age is not a requisite for knowledge. Angela has the legal experience by dealing with these issues every day. Since divorce has no winners, I feel that my case was resolved in a manner that was very positive and agreeable to me based on the advice I received. I recommend Angela’s services to anyone seeking competence with getting through the paperwork, legalese and emotional grind of the law. It was a blessing to have her on my side. Sincerely, Oswaldo Bermudez
Ms. Angela Peacock provided me with fine legal service from approximately March, 2007 until her recent departure from her former legal firm of Fromm, Smith & Gadow. While the process of getting divorced can unfold in myriad ways, and is never pleasant, it also needn't be a torturous process; to wit, Ms. Peacock was a real lifesaver for me. Ms. Peacock distinguished herself by always lending a sympathetic, yet pragmatic perspective to the "many bumps in the road" that pervaded the path to finalizing the divorce. It can be said that my particular situation was simplified greatly as a result of her forward thinking, flexibility, and initiative. Ms. Peacock was always available to me and was likewise attentive to the timelines and time constraints under which we were working. I recall numerous occasions on which she lingered after her own business hours to accomodate my schedule so that we can discuss our game plan on the phone, and when she was indisposed or otherwise engaged, she was very efficient in having her team take note of my concerns/questions until such time as she was able to get back to me. I confess that I was very concerned initially, given the fact that I was still stationed in Germany when I decided to file for divorce, but upon meeting Ms. Peacock and then working with her over the course of the subsequent months, I must say that she was focused, determined (without being overbearing), and committed to fighting for my best interests. Ms. Peacock quickly mapped the process out for me. She gave me the paperwork and literature with which I needed to make myself familiar prior to making any "hard" decisions, and then made certain that she was available to me when I came back with questions/concerns. In addition, she was very good at playing devil's advocate whenever I was clearly allowing my love for my children sway my thinking too far in direction of illogical concession. I recommend Ms. Angela Peacock as an attorney to anyone, and would certainly hope to work with her again should the need ever arise. Daniel F. Regelbrugge
Let it Snow, let it Snow, let it Snow!!! Chad Snow has me singing year round! Talk about a “gift” in my life! I feel like a child again who got the present I always wanted, hidden behind the tree. After I injured myself at work, all I could think about was recovering and returning ASAP. Soon after I filed for workers comp, they told me I needed to go back to work and stopped paying my benefits. Unfortunately, I was nowhere near recovery and losing the battle against workers comp on my own, so I decided I needed to seek legal aid. After consulting with a number of lawyers, most told me I didn't have much of a case since I would have to prove two separate injuries. I got the sense from others that they wanted to take me on a roller coaster ride by charging me for paperwork, visits, court fees, etc. and would ultimately end up doing nothing to win my case, leaving me with a large bill to pay. I didn't get that feeling from Chad. Although I wish I could say something like “I won my case and I was awarded compensation in 30 days,” the truth be told, I could not find a “reputable” lawyer that would even take my case and I doubt few lawyers would have won, being up against so many barriers. And looking back, I know I won my case because of the work Chad did-- It was a long hard battle. Four doctors were attesting against my case making it seemingly impossible to me that I had any chance of winning. Chad worked diligently on my case, reassuring my doubts about winning a difficult, hard-to-prove workers comp case against one of the largest insurance companies in the nation. I was appeased each visit and I was astonished how empathetic he was with my injuries. When the time came in court, Chad was able to knock out all of the testimonies against my case, one after the other, like Billy the Kid playing that bulls-eye game at the carnival. Needless to say, I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of my case and highly recommend the services of Chad Snow. --Ursula Bauman
I have retained the services of Kristen Martin for several years and my single regret is that I did not obtain them earlier. For my divorce, I went with one of those “one size fits all” law firms that handle cases ranging from Family Law to DUI and everything in between. Unfortunately, I suffered the consequences of that decision. When I needed to correct all the legal mistakes that were made during my divorce, I began interviewing lawyers. Armed with my questions and proposed game-plan, I spoke with several firms and even more lawyers. While there are many reasons why I chose Kristen, the moment that sticks with me the most is when she said something the others had not. She told me “no”! I was flabbergasted. She continued to elaborate on why my proposed plan would not work and that if I truly wanted to reach my end goals we would need to create a different plan of attack. While other lawyers were “yessing me to death” in an effort to gain my business, Kristen chose to do what was in my best interest and not simply follow the money. From a professional perspective, I challenge you to find a better Family Law lawyer. Kristen is extremely intelligent, organized, timely and, most importantly, she involves you in the entire process. She truly gives you the tools you need in order to make informed decisions. During the holiday season a few years ago Kristen gave me her personal cell phone number in case I had any questions even though she was on vacation. While Kristen excels in every Family Law category, she truly shines in the court room. Her preparation, her ability to coach, her ability to question witnesses and her ability to keep you calm and focused during one of the most stressful situations of your life are second to none. Watching Kristen work in the court room and knowing that she is on your side is an absolute confidence builder. In all honesty, there is no one I would rather have by my side during an Evidentiary Hearing than Kristen.
My family and I never thought we would need the services of a criminal defense lawyer. As blue and white collar workers we were living the American dream until one of my uncles was stopped for driving too slow (as he made his way home from a church function). Because of a prior felony from 1992, for which he served time, my uncle had his residency taken away and was deported. He illegally entered the country over 10 years ago and had been working and paying his taxes while supporting his family ever since. The traffic officer determined my uncle was here illegally. The illegal entry, which was aggravated by the prior felony, would lead to a possible sentence of at least 63-78 months in federal prison. We met with the public defense attorney followed by a private attorney and they were steering us in the wrong direction. Frustrated, we sought the services of Mr. Suzuki through a recommendation from someone who had acquired his services before. Mr. Suzuki reassured us this was an unusual case and he would do his best to get him the least amount of time. While our family was still disappointed we put all of our trust in him. He dedicated all the time and effort necessary to present a solid case based on my uncle's great character. At sentencing the federal judge understood the case Mr. Suzuki presented and not only eliminated any additional time and went against the probation and federal prosecutor’s recommendation, but wished my uncle well. My uncle got time served and was free to go back to Mexico, which was all we wanted at that point. We were overwhelmed with joy. Mr. Suzuki knew it was possible but didn't want to get our hopes up. He was always realistic and sincere about his concern for our family and my uncle. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Mr. Suzuki really is a cut above the rest.
'Angela handled a very difficult divorce for me a couple of years ago, one which was difficult going through emotionally and which was filled with threats and abuse by my now ex-wife. There are several things I appreciated Angela regarding the services she provided me, they were: 1. She maintained professional representation throughout the proceedings even during the most stressful times, and focused on the facts and ensuring that all necessary details were covered. In addition, when my ex-wife and her attorney began to engage her name in frivolous matters, she handled it with respect and integrity without incurring a large expense. 2. She worked with me in establishing ground rules on how we would interact with my ex-wife her attorney and she respected those ground rules throughout the proceedings. 3. She represented and advised me on what 'My' rights were, along with what was in the best interest for both parties in coming up with a fair and equitable settlement and always had my and my children's interest in mind. 4. She listened to my concerns and questions as we were going through the process and was able to be firm and flexible when needed. Overall, Angela made the process easy, however, I did not necessarily follow her advice, which I know frustrated her, and which I never saw her frustration come out. Had I followed her advice as she had recommended, I would have saved myself a lot of pain, aggravation and financial impact. Despite that, she still made sure to represent me and ensure that what I wanted was adhered to the letter of the law. I would highly recommend, and have, Angela to handle anyone's needs when going through a difficult process of a divorce or separation.'
You are my entire family’s prayer come true and my angel. I couldn’t have asked for a better result and therefore have so many thoughts going through my head that writing a review, well past due, there can’t be enough said here. I am so uncontrollably happy that all words in the world cannot explain. I came to you like a sheet in the wind; lost and confused with no other options. All the hope for my being a part of my kids’ life was almost gone. After all, being in the military put a huge damper on me, especially since I live out of the State of Arizona. Upon arriving in your office the first time, you put me at ease and listened to everything I had to the point it was apparently not enough because you asked me for more. I knew from the moment I spoke to you on the phone to find where your office was that I was making the right move. I had been told long ago to keep a paper trail and keep everything I could for evidence and I would prevail. You picked up my shattered pieces and bread crumbs and took it a whole new level. Once again, being military hindered my financial outlook and yet you strived in doing what was right for the children. I couldn’t have asked for a better lawyer. You helped me understand legal ways at looking at things and translated everything so I can explain it to family, friends, and my work (so I could get time off to travel). Your expertise in all that transpired really shows in cases like mine. Your knowledge and seriousness in all this kept me with a level head. Thank you for all you’ve done for me to reunite with my boys. I know you are only a phone call or email away.
The legal profession is vast, with each attorney having his or her specialties. Here are some of the most common attorneys individuals seek out when they require legal aid:
A criminal defense lawyer is probably the attorney the average person imagines. Criminal attorneys are the men and women who defend individuals accused of a crime. The lawyer may work pro bono - for the public good - so the accused is certain to have representation, even if he or she cannot afford an attorney.
Criminal lawyers are experts in the criminal justice system. They help their clients decide how to plead when first charged by the police and guide them through trial procedures. Defense lawyers must use every bit of their knowledge and resources to get their clients the fairest results from criminal proceedings.
If you are a small business owner or the head of a larger corporation, you may come into contact with a business lawyer. Many big companies keep a legal staff on payroll to deal with the daily operations of running and maintaining a large enterprise. Business lawyers may have more specific specialties like copyright law, product liability and mergers and acquisitions.
Business attorneys may focus their practices on certain industries. There are entertainment lawyers to guide artists through royalties and media contracts, while hospitals employ malpractice attorneys to protect doctors from aggressive litigation.
When you work for a company, you may find yourself in need of an employment lawyer - especially if the relationship between you and your employer sours. An employment attorney prevents people from losing their jobs due to unfair reasons. Workers' compensation lawyers help maintain safe employment conditions and ensure workers receive fair compensation after workplace injury or discrimination.
A personal finance attorney can protect and manage your investments and securities. You may use a finance lawyer to help you prepare your taxes, but you might be better off working with an accountant. A tax attorney is more commonly contacted after a business or individual runs into trouble with the IRS or state regulators.
Real Estate Lawyer
Your family may keep a lawyer on retainer to guide you through the major expenses that come up in life. When buying a home, you could work with a real estate lawyer to make sure you get the best deal and won't get taken advantage of by tricky mortgage agreements or unfair landlords. An estate attorney can help you plan for the worst by creating a will and preparing your finances for after your death.
A bankruptcy lawyer is essential to help you resolve your financial difficulties when they start to spin out of control. Certain attorneys help create strategies to bring you out of debt and speak to your creditors. A lawyer can advise you on which type of bankruptcy you should file for.
If you are suing someone or being sued, you need a civil lawyer. Civil attorneys - and criminal lawyers - are the legal representatives who argue on your behalf in a courtroom setting. Civil lawyers may represent you on matters of business, finance or a wide variety of other specialized needs.
One of the most common types of civil attorneys is a personal injury lawyer. When you're hurt by an outside party and you would like to hold them legally responsible, a personal injury attorney conducts litigation and negotiates settlements to compensate for your pain and suffering. Sometimes many wronged people will join together with a single civil lawyer or law office to form a class action lawsuit.
Most people will turn to a lawyer during a divorce to navigate the emotionally charged legal proceedings. A divorce attorney can assist in determining grounds for separation, division of property and custody of children.
Family attorneys deal with much more personal matters. If you're getting married, a family lawyer can help you prepare a prenuptial agreement or other family planning paperwork such as adoption or inheritance documents.
To ensure you find a competent attorney who won't abuse your trust or drain your finances, you have to make the proper inquiries. There are several questions you should ask, but the majority will fall under three general topics:
Training and Experience Questions
One of the best ways to determine quality is to examine an attorney's history. When you first step into a lawyer's office, you should check for the appropriate certifications and diplomas. You have to ask how long he or she has practiced law and request information that demonstrates the practice's success. Look for precise details such as percentage of cases settled out of court.
Once you inquire about the broad details of their legal career, you should ask questions about their experience that pertains to your specific issue. You should ask how many similar cases they have handled and if they have special skills or training that applies specifically to your needs. Lawyers can't mention clients by name, but you should ask for basic details about identical past cases.
You need to ask about every possible fee that will come up when working with an attorney. You should request a list of all costs in advance so you won't be surprised by additional expenses like overhead. Also determine exactly when you will start being billed. You want to inspect paperwork carefully. If the attorney charges you for his or her experience, you need to make sure he or she will perform tasks personally and not hand it off to an assistant.
Find out if the attorney has a flat fee or charges by the hour. Many civil lawyers work on contingency. Whatever the payment plan, make inquiries about how the lawyer plans to provide service for your money and what you can do if you start to feel unsatisfied with his or her performance.
Lawyer/Client Relationship Questions
When you hire a lawyer, you're agreeing to work with someone over a certain period of time. You need to ask questions about how the attorney will communicate with you and what responsibilities you hold in the relationship. The attorney should let you know the best channel for quick communication and you need to inform him or her when you want updates.
You should also ask questions to get to know the attorney as an individual in order to ensure this is a person you can trust. Ask about their legal philosophy and how he or she views the lawyer/client relationship. Great questions to start off with are ones that will make your life easier, such as how to keep fees down or what daily disruptions you should expect from a long legal battle. The more forthcoming the lawyer appears to be with individual needs, the better.
You may keep a lawyer on retainer or you could turn to an attorney during specific situations. Here are some common reasons people begin seeking legal representation or advice:
You Know Your Limitations
If you sign documents and you come across a word you don't recognize, you need assistance. You may need a third party to help you navigate important employment or real estate paperwork. It's essential you fully understand the terms of any legally binding documentation or activity you become a part of. If you are not an expert in a given field, you'll want to hire an attorney who is.
A lawyer may find legal implications or opportunities you might miss. If you find yourself in a civil or criminal matter, a proper attorney ensures you don't receive a harsh punishment for a small mistake.
You're Facing an Important Event/Decision
When making decisions critical to your financial stability or personal life, you may want a lawyer with expertise in your situation to make sure you do everything you can to arrive at the proper resolution. This is especially true when you become involved in a criminal case and your freedom is on the line.
It's not just a matter of legal knowledge; lawyer's have access to numerous resources you do not. They have staff ready to work around the clock and experts in a variety of fields to give your important issues the attention they deserve.
You Can't Be Impartial
During times when personal matters intersect with legal proceedings, you may need to have an advocate to prevent your emotions from getting in the way of level-headed thinking. For example, divorce lawyers can mediate a heated argument and help both partners get on with their lives.
Emotional investment could be subtle. You may want to have a lawyer look over an investment opportunity that looks too good to be true or investigate the merits of a possible civil suit when you feel wronged.
You're Out of Options
Many people turn to lawyers when they are in trouble. If you've been accused of a crime or are in a terrible financial situation, you can find an attorney who will work with what you have available to assist you as you deal with your problems.
Personal injury lawyers find solutions for people who can no longer work under their own power and bankruptcy attorneys prevent people from giving in to debt. If you find yourself in a situation where you can't find a solution, a lawyer may be able to offer the counsel you need.
When it comes time to choose a lawyer, you should start by searching close to home. While you probably don't want the conflict of interest that comes from being represented by a family member, friends and loved ones can recommend lawyers who served them well in the past. If you do have attorneys you are familiar with, ask who they believe would be best for you.
After going through personal references - especially from individuals who had similar needs - you should broaden your search through public information resources. You can call your area's attorney referral service or check legal organizations like Martindale-Hubbell. There are other resources available online. You should check websites for client reviews and other third-party forms of approval.
When you build a list of possible candidates, perform a background check on each one. See if you can find information on their history and success record. Once you find a possible lawyer, you should call to arrange a consultation so you can ask your important questions in person.
By performing the necessary research and taking every available precaution, you can narrow your search to the attorney most suited to your needs.
