This is my first time in place and it is incredible. Good food, good people, good place. Deserves a 5 star from me.
It was my first time at Benny the Bum. I am from NYC originally. Now residing in South Jersey. I am so happy to have found out about Benny the bum. I no longer need to travel to New York's City's, City Island for excellent seafood. I ordered the Dungeness crab with Old Bay seasoning. I have never in my life, so far, tasted such a well seasoned crab. Most places either apply too much, or not enough. The food was excellent, and worthy every penny. The only concern, I have is the faucet water served with the meals. The water tasted like the pipes they came out of. I'd rather pay for bottled water next time. I ordered the raspberry iced tea, it also tasted like faucet water. Perhaps this eatery could use a water purification system. Other than that, every thing else was gravy!!!! I have read the reviews regarding loud music playing in the establishment. Thank goodness, the Sunday evening I went, it was quiet! The owner needs to understand, everyone doesn't appreciate the noise. A quiet more relaxing atmosphere would be in order. Give your patrons a choice in the matter................Long live Benny the Bum!!!
Pretty good seafood, there really isn't much else to it. But at the end of the day it gets three stars due to the lack of options on the menu. I should be able to order a few crabs and some shrimp and not have to pay 30$ but were on the butt end of a failed economy anyway. Everything suffers from inflation.
It was ok I will say they have awesome chicken wings
Love, love, love this place. The food is delicious, it is possible to hear your dinner companions speaking to you and the staff is wonderful!
Ordered a half a bushel of Crabs full of SAND. HAD A FAMILY GATHERING AND IT TURNED OUT BAD DUE TO SANDY CRABS. OWNER SAID HE DIDN'T SELL THEM BUT THE CASHIER SAID THERE MAY BE SOME SAND IN THE CRABS. I TRY SUPPORT BUSINESSES BY PEOPLE OF COLOR BUT THIS CRAB THING MAY BE A PROBLEM.
Ordered 10 $3 sautéed crabs. They weren't cleaned properly & very mushy. First & Last time eating here. I will stick to the crab shack.
Fantastic crab cakes and soups. Also gotta try mussels and the best shrimp. Wow. What a pleasant surprise to find a such a seafood treasure
This little restaurant opened recently with little fanfare. I went in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. They serve home style latino food such was yellow rice with beans, pork chops, empanadas, etc. For eight dollars, I got a huge heaping portion of yellow rice with beans which was the best I've had at a restaurant, a side of salad and stewed pork rib. It was more than enough for two people. The interior is simple but light and clean with plenty of room to eat in. The staff speaks mostly Spanish but you'd have very little trouble with English as well. They were incredibly friendly. I think it's cash only at this point. Definitely give it a try if you're in the neighborhood or nearby!
