This Center City, Philadelphia store is perhaps the best I've seen of its type. Sure, some of the products are vintage (even ancient), but that's exactly what many people expect and seek from an Army Navy store. Notwithstanding, there are numerous contemporary products - winter wear, hiking gear, sporstwear, undergarments, specialty items, you name it - all at reasonable prices. For almost 20 years I have walked by, shopped or simply perused inside the store and have found great variety for reasonable prices. The service has always been so good that you end up remembering faces and names, like stores in the old days. I am not alone in knowing the bagman or other staff members, because it's precisely that kind of sincere service that builds long relationships. I have also shopped in North Face, REI, and other places over the same nearly 20 years and, while there is the expected overlap in availability of certain products, prices are always lower at this store.
The comments alleging racism are ridiculous. The population in the area (my work environment nearly 20 years) and the customers are diverse in race, gender, ethnicity and age. I know firsthand what unwanted biased attention looks like, but never saw that in this store. Life experience teaches that a few individuals who exude hostility or suspicious behavior will attract attention; unsurprisingly, those are the ones who would project their deficiencies upon others and allege racism in a widely liked, well known, historically diverse store. The normally gracious individual knows how to handle (even unwanted) attention in a way that does not arouse suspicion. And accusing the bagman of stealing shoes?.. please. That hyperbolic account sounds neither complete nor plausible.
I recommend you visit the store and see for yourself what I and all customers known to me have experienced: well-priced items in three floors and friendly service.

The bag guy stole my shoes! I left my bag with the bag person as usual when you go int there and after getting home directly from I Goldberg, the shoes I just bought before going to I Goldberg are replaced with someones dirty shoes. I couldn't believe it! And the guy stole my receipt so when I went back, I couldn't file a report and by the time I went back to the original store to get another receipt they're closed. 100$ shoes gone. I can afford it but what a trashy thing to do. I wont come here again.
Not to mention, the stores whole vibe is a little negative. Many of the employees are kind of rude. I have found that you can get everything they have but cheaper somewhere else. Its really a novelty shop that sells random gloves and knives. Go to City sports, REI, North Face; They are cheaper and a lot friendlier.

Half the employees are black at a jewish army navy store.... racism is a little hard to come by. If you are a criminal, perhaps store associates following you around may feel a little intrusive. I call it good service when a salesman is right on top of the action to help you out with whatever you need (or whatever you may need). Interested in that item? Let me see what we have in stock- going to buy it? Here I'll put it at the front desk for you if you want to continue shopping.
For those with a serious inquiry- I think its the top army navy store in the area- 3 floors with plenty of items at reasonable prices. I havent been to another with such a large selection. I cant say its the best since I havent been to every army navy store in the area, but I will say you wont regret going (unless youre black).
Bernard is the guy who works behind the bag check counter and he'll watch over anything you bring into the store be it bags or jackets, but omg he only treats me well because Im white (or maybe because Im not shady). Oh wait hes black too.
The store is in center city- there are alot of lowlives that can easily make their way there in an attempt to steal things. If you dress, act, or look shady expect people to keep a close eye (shoplifting happens quite often in the city). Its not because ""omg Im black RACISM!"" when the store accomadates several black employees

I read all reviews about this store prior to going to it and was very excited to go because I like these kinds of stores. I went in and I was greated with kindness then all downhill from there I was asked if I needed help then I was followed around by a sales associates as if I was a f@#king criminal I went downstairs and I was not bothered but on the main level I felt harrassed then I went upstairs and I was followed after telling the sales associate I needed no help he and his coworker followed my wife and I around and I just grabbed what I was there for and went back downstairs to pay and leave immediately the woman behind the counter looked at me like as if I couldn't buy anything from the store. Then they had the nerve to stare at us then ask my wife if we were together. I don't know what was their deal but I will never go back or tell anyone to visit this store actually if you are black beware they will follow you and make your experience horrible. I hope the owners of the store reads this so they know what kind of employees they have working for them.

When you walk in, there are the normal t-shirts with clever sayings and tube socks and whatnot (pick up some wife-beaters while you're there; they really do go with everything). However, it's the basement that's the treasure trove here! From vintage military casks and bags to coats and miscellaneous other clothing items, the basement is a great place to find a jacket or accessory that is super cool and guaranteed not to be seen on anyone else.
