I put my trust in Michelle recently for a special updo and she delivered the most creative slay-all-day style I've ever seen- PHENOMENAL! Hadn't been back for a while but I'll continue to be a loyal patron.
Duafe's stylists are amazing and I've never been disappointed with the products or services rendered.

This was my first visit to Duafe. I scheduled my appointment on line with great ease. My stylist was Syreeta. The location was not difficult to find. My gps lead me right there. When I arrived I was promptly greeted. I waited a few before I was washed - maybe 5 or 10 mins - not long at all. During this time Syretta introduced herself and apologized for the delay as she was finishing up with another client. The young lady who washed my hair did a great job. She ensure the water temperature was comfortable. She also asked if I was tender headed to make sure she used appropriate pressure during the wash. The shampoo stations were comfortable as well. Syreeta then began her magic. She assessed my hair and made a few suggestions. I was extremely pleased with the finished product. Needless to say I booked my follow up appointment before I left. The salon had a great vibe. The clients were of all ages and genders. Everyone was personable and professional. Syreeta is a really cool person. I enjoyed chatting with her as she styled my hair. To some pricing may be on the high side but I’m a believer that you get what you pay for and my experience exceeded my expectation. I think my locs have found a new home. For me its worth the hour drive. I would definitely recommend Syreeta and her salon to my family and friends.

Duafe, the worse experience I've had in a long time. The attitude of their receptionist, ms. nephatelie (excuse the spelling) was horrible. I did not like the way I was treated after waiting six weeks to get my hair done. I was so excited about going, only to be disappointed. All I can say is Iwill never go back there and I know never is to absolute, but you can bet your bottom dollar I will never go there again, and I will not recommend any of my friends to go. Next time remember you are a place of business, and sometimes businesses grow by word of mouth. sorry you lost this client.

First of all, they're website has they're old address listed n u need a consultatiion before u make an appt so I walked a VERY long time on thu only to find out I went to the wrong address,(I walked because one of the buses septa told me to take was no longer there) however, they still let me schedule for this morning since I gone thru all that trouble (it was so far that I had to take a cab back)...ffwd to this mornin, have an appt 9am accordin to various sources only an hour travel to the new location left 745am, didn't get first bus til 830 second bus just as bad, needless to say I was an hour late, but finally on the same block as the hair salon get a call saying the lady is booked for the day n she's just not gonna do my hair cuz I'm late...R U FCKIN kiddin me?! So basically they told me to take my a$$ back home. By the way, the hair dresser who wouldn't do my hair after all of that stress is TIA. I don't care about her skill level, what she did was extremely RUDE to a first time customer. But I'm fed up so I don wanna give them my money no way, they call again sayin someone else will do it, I'm stranded, tired, irritated n my hair is wild I had to go back, so they did my hair then charged $95, after all that ish(i have locs, charging $95 is on the high end, like u better b my one and only if i plan on payin over$100 includin tip...(Its good, but not that good) so I tipped a 5 actually 6 cuz I found another dollar in my purse, but I regret the tip thats how deep it is right now... (PS - apparently its not even 3510 scotts lane, its 3502 scotts lane - at the end of the day - WAS NOT WORTH ALL THAT STRESS!)

I wanted to like Duafe, I really did. The online appointment booking, the great communication when it came to my appointment...all things that made me hope they were on their toes. Although I have to admit the incorrect prices listed on the web site did give me pause.
On the day of my appt the salon called to let me know there was a water main break on the street. The caller was very helpful and informative in letting me know another way to get to the salon. Again, I was thrilled with the attention to detail.
My appt was at 10:15am, so I arrived at the salon at 10:00. Gave the receptionist my name and time of appt, she asked if I could take a seat. Again, everything was fine up until this point.
A 1/2 hour later and I'm still sitting, waiting. No one said anything more to me..
An hour later and again...no one told me anything and I'm still waiting.
An hour and 15 minutes later the stylist comes over, apologizes for running late and ask if I'm ready to get my hair washed. I would of appreciated someone telling me this early on into my appt time…I’m sure the fact that they were running more than an hour behind time did not come as a surprise. Again, the lack of communication came into play when it came to washing my hair. Neither the stylist or the receptionist mentioned that all they had to wash hair with was cold water. Apparently the water main break hindered the ability to produce hot water however, I didn’t know this until the water hit my head.
During conversation with the stylist I was told they were running late because the previous client had wanted color. Which in my opinion with the time it takes to do locs, anything not on the books should be handled at a later appt to not back the stylist up. If the appt was on the books with the client getting color, the timing should of been adjusted.
Finally after my cold wash I get my hair twisted and rod set, which by the way went perfectly. (did I mention I love my hair?!)
So, under the dryer to wait until my hair dried…in the meantime the stylist was doing another head. (about an hour or so passes)
After that person was finished the stylist placed them next to me. After checking both dryers and adding more time to mine the stylist says…”I’ll be back” and walks out. Walks out the door.
Again, I’m waiting….and waiting.
I look at my watch and realize that the stylist has been gone at least 40 mins or so. It’s now around 2:30 and I’m contemplating asking someone else to see if my hair is dry and to take out the rods. I’ve been at the salon since 10am and had other errands to do.
Luckily the stylist comes in 10 mines later and checks the dryer. Oh, not MY dryer, the person who was here since 10AM but the other dryer. Finishes up the other client, they leave and then the stylist comes to me to check my hair.
Honestly at this point I don’t care if my hair is dry on not, I have to leave. I ask to please just take out the rods.
I sit in the stylist chair, they remove the rods, they ask if I want the locs separated. I decline anything further, pay my bill and leave.
The appointment was frustrating in regard that they never informed me of what was going on. That the stylist was running more than an hour late, that they had little to no hot water. The stylist leaving for at least 45 mins and never mentioning they were leaving. Helping other clients leave before helping the client that had been there the longest.
My appt was at 10:15am and I did not leave the salon until 3:20pm...way to long in my book. I had no issue with the price as I do love my hair however, the lack of communication, timing and professionalism leaves something to be desired though.

Although the shop is good in general, It can be a challenge getting a timely appointment with the better stylists. The shampooing and conditioning services are heaven. I actually fell asleep a couple of times. The only complaint I have is that I arrived on time for my appointment. I wasn't told until the young lady walked up to me to introduce herself that the person with whom I had the appt with WOULDN""T be doing my hair. She was in the shop but busy. Hmmm, I think the professional thing to do was for her to speak to me directly and explain the situation giving me the choice of rescheduling or having someone else do my hair. I'm very picky about who does my hair since I like it a certain. In the end I was extremely happy with the outcome and am now going to the new stylist for all my services. I just feel it could've been handled better.

I went to Duafe to have my hair cornrowed. I'd already sworn off natural salons, because I find that I end up paying a ton of money for something I could do myself! However, my experience at Duafe was WONDERFUL from beginning to end! My appointment started on time, all of the stylists were incredibly nice! The guy at the front desk was awesome! AND my hair turned out great and I thought the price was VERY reasonable! I've now started locs on my own and will be going in for a touch up. I had no problem getting an appointment because they are open 7 days a week and you can book online (another plus).
The neighborhood really isn't that bad; it's very much up and coming. Thank goodness, because if they were in Center City, you'd be paying for your hair AND that real estate! Anyway, I was already familiar with the area because a friend of mine used to live one block away from the shop. Parking can be a problem, depending on when you go. My last appointment was on a Sunday morning, so parking wasn't an issue.
I would definitely recommend Duafe. I felt totally comfortable there and I generally hate salons (one HUGE reason for my going natural). The customer service really is exceptional, they ought to write a book! Everyone knows that the owner, Syleena Scott, does Jill Scott's hair, so you would think they'd be totally stuck up in there, but they are SO down to earth! Truly, a great experience :-D

but I did have a wonderful experience. It is very apparent that customer service is important to everyone: beginning with the receptionist and extending to the stylist (even the shampoo guy was a sweetheart) . My hair is, of course, natural however I prefer straight styles. I went to Duafe upon a recommendation from a friend and I was not disappointed. My hair feels exceptionally clean, soft and full of body. I love it! Everyone there did their best to be kind and attentive (I was offered tea upon my arrival).
The only thing that's off putting about the salon is that it's located in a very economically depressed neighborhood and sadly it shows in some in the clientele. Customers were sometimes loud and inappropriate which kind of depleted the positive energy. Also the infrastructure could use some work. I would recommend a professional paint job throughout the salon, new flooring and a professional carpenter to patch up the ceiling. The light fixtures could also use a good dusting!
Also, I don't anticipate that I will return while I continue to wear my hair in straight styles since it is very apparent that Duafe does NOT normally service natural hair clientele who want to wear straight styles. Instead I will consider going back when I want a textured style or when I decide to return to locs.
In sum, I would recommend this salon because of the exceptional customer service, the beautiful loc and textured styles I observed, and did I mention the shampoo guy?!!

I have been going to Duafe's for a little less than a year and let me tell you, it was one of the best experiences I ever had at a hair salon.I leave their salon feeling beautiful every time.My hair is soft , has body and bounces with the wind. The atmospheres is great, the people are friendly, social and extremely welcoming! And the music is always on point, it is always a treat for me to get my hair done. They have recently opened the second floor and made it home to one of their best stylists. Its as if you are getting your hair done by one of your closest friend in their warm, cozy, ecletic apartment, I love it. Duafe's is truly one of Philly's exquisite gems that could never be replicated!

When I was first interested in locking my hair seven years ago, I started out with someone doing my hair in my home. I was referred to Syreeta Scott at Duafe's, then located in a cozy and intimate shop in South Philly. I have not wanted to go anywhere else since that first time I sat in her chair (I will follow her whereve she goes!!). From that first day I felt as if I had come home. I have been taught not only how to extensively care for my hair and my skin, but I have watched how Syreeta has patiently taught her proteges how to care for their clients and how to successfully run a business. I am also continuing to learn more and more about my culture . By just crossing the threshold into Duafe's I immediately experienced the definition of extended family--hugh smiles, warm hellos and welcoming spirits!! Not only do they create locks in Duafe's, they're able to create any hairstyle that you can imagine. So if I decided to cut my locks off tonight, I can come right back to the boutique and re-create myself. I have been to lots of hairdressers in my lifetime and I have never experienced coming to a salon where I want to stay all day and even want to work!! Syreeta, are there any job openings??!!! (smile)

The Duafe Holistic Hair Care Salon has no rival when it comes to customer servie and quality. Sensing my nervousness about getting locks, the owner decided to do my first session and each stylist I've had since replicates her gentleness and thoroughness when it comes to their clients. Every employee there is conscientious and highly-skilled and I've never left the shop feeling dissatisfied. Usually, stylists try to impose their styles on you but the folks at Duafe always listen to your requests to accomodate your budged, time, and personal preferences. The prices are higher than other salons but after trying most of the competitiors, I've come to realize that the old adage ""You get what you pay for"" has never been truer. Nowhere else in the city are you going to get such individual treatment and chances are if you ask someone with beatuiful locks and a great hairstyle where they got it done, the're going to say Duafe.

Duafe is a very unique place I was going there for about 2yrs. I just recently stopped going because it is so hard to get an appointment. And, if you are natural you need to keep up with hair care. I was very upset that I had to stop going & put a realxer in my hair. Anyway, I would tell anyone to go to Duafe it is a experince I will never forget. The salon is beautiful the music is nice. Everyone is really nice. You really feel comfortable. And they really take there time with you & answer any questions you have. They make you love your hair because it can be a little tough being natural. But I would tell anyone to go even if they don't want to go back just to get the experince of going there.
