My husband and I placed three rings on layaway worth $5,200.00,we wasn't able to pay them off within the time permitted, had to use a store credit...I'm so disappointed in the choices I had to choose from, and what I walked out of there with.... for $2,165.00 my husband and I left out with bands WORTH ONLY $500!! My husband's band was the original one he placed on layaway ($1,600.00) mine was a piece of dust! We found this out after getting BOTH rings appraised at several of the stores in the area.... My husband's ring was worth the $500...mine....NOTHING! I feel cheated! So cheated! Every store spoke negatively of Barsky! even telling us that the owner did FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR TAX EVASION! I own a business...how could I have been so stupid to not have done my homework! I tell you this...when my business picks back up...and I go ring shopping again...I won't be going down to Barskys! I hated my ring soooo much we SOLD THEM BOTH for $500 total! basically...I gave mine away! I'd rather start all over with another company! I would have felt better if the sales rep (Matthew) would have been more sympathetic to our situation....but I feel he just made the dollars work....for all that I could have kept the money on the original rings and continued to make payments! selling me a piece of dust was DISRESPECTFUL! It bought tears to my husbands eyes to see me so unhappy...not being able to do anything....
I have dealt with both Jeffrey and Nathan, on three different occasions.
The first time I traded in an engagement ring when I got engaged again.
I explained the price range and what I wanted and Nathan got me a "D"
blue white stone for a fraction of what someone else would have charged. I traded in my old gold to make my fiance a beautiful initial ring. Nathan worked with me on the mold, until it was what I wanted.
When I turned 60 I treated myself to a diamond tennis bracelet.
Jeffrey was kind enough to change the round stones at my request to a whiter stone and made sure to give me the original price for the white gold as this was a pre designed bracelet that I choose to buy as I liked the design.
The service is great and I would highly recomment Barsky. I think they are honest, and trustworthy, and have the most selection of diamonds and prices to suit anyone's budget on Jeweler's Row.

My future husband bought our engagement ring and wedding bands here. When I came in be4cause a diamond fell out, they rushed me to the back so other buyers couldn't hear me. They put another diamond in. But then as they were talking to me one of their big deal huge ring customers came in and they people forgot I was there. We just opened the boxes to our wedding rings today to make sure they will be good for our december wedding and already my husbands band looks tarnished even though he never wore it! It supposed to be platinum. I'm not sure how we will handle this. I think just getting othr rings from another store for our weeding day and a lawyer will help.
Hello Heather, It is our standard procedure to send you to the back of the store where our shop is located. The Shop Manager and on site jewelers are can then assess what needs to be addressed. It is our policy to be attentive and address our customers as soon as they walk through the door. We strive for excellent customer service. We stand behind our merchandise 100%. You can contact me directly and I will help you in any way that I can. Sincerely, Nathan Barsky
My husband got my engagement ring from here. I was happy with it for 8 years. Then I decided to get it upgraded with a custom setting. It took 4 months to get! It has been a nightmare getting any updates, feel like I get the run around every time I call. If you want to propose with a custom ring, and you insist on getting it from Barsky, go right after your 2nd date. That way, when you want to propose, you might have a better chance of having the ring done by then. Very disappointed and will never use them again.

My husband bought both my engagement ring and wedding band at Barsky's. After about a 1 and half years, a small diamond in my wedding band fell out. I have no clue how and did not do anything that I was aware of to bang it up. I called and talked to Denise who was so calming and kind. Then when I got there, Mary was wonderful and so helpful in fixing my wedding band. I don't live in the city, and they took me quickly and fixed my ring on the spot. Now it is cleaned and looking better than ever!! Great night at Barsky's and would defintely recommend it!!

What an incredible experience. Right from the start I knew I was in the correct place to purchase my now-fiance's engagement ring. After shopping endlessly at mall and chain jewelry stores, I decided to head to Jewelers Row. At the mall it was poor-quality diamond after poor-quality diamond, for really high prices. At Barsky it was very high quality diamond for an absolutely incredible price.
Nate Barsky knew exactly what I wanted once I described it. He brought me three settings, all of them matching my description! What a difference from salespeople the the malls who want to sell you something you did not ask for. Nate stayed right in my price range. Even though my budget was tight, I was treated with respect. After showing me exactly what I wanted, Nate suggested we walk around, have lunch, check out other places, before making a decision. I really felt good about it, but decided to check out Steven Singer. Well, it's true, I Hate Steven singer. Quality was lousy and prices were high. And, they were salespeople - didn't listen to what i wanted at all. The salesman face obviously dropped when I told him my price range. After spending some time at Steven Singer ( wasted time), we immediately went back to Barsky. Nate still had my setting and diamond in his front shirt pocket! He knew we were coming back. From there his father finished the sale.
Mr. Barsky was a knowledgeable man with an obvious expertise. He treated my like a person, asking about my now-fiance (how long we have been together, her name, where I was going to propose, etc...). He even offered to appraise some of my dad's gold jewelery for him for no cost.
The ring was absolutely gorgeous and my fiance loves it! The center diamond was of a clarity and cut I never thought I could afford - and it was GIA certified!
To top it off, they were awesome enough to set and size the ring right there so I wouldn't have to make a trip back to pick it up. This is where I will be buying all of my jewelery from now on. By treating a young person on a budget with respect, Barsky has gained a customer for life.

My boyfriend and I have just started looking for an engagement ring. We walked in and told Denise our budget, and she immediately sat me down to look at settings while she went in the back to grab an Asscher cut diamond, which is what I thought I wanted. She also brought out a radiant cut since they are pretty similar. I honestly had no idea what I was looking for, but showed her a setting I thought was pretty. She showed me about 4 different settings which wore more in our price range, and I fell completely in love with one of them. The radiant cut looked gorgeous in it! I couldn't believe I'd found something I loved so quickly considering I'm probably the pickiest person on the east coast. I owe it all to Denise. She was more than helpful and told us to take our time deciding. I really hope that is the ring my boyfriend gets for me because - O-M-G it's beautiful! We had the greatest experience at Barsky! Cross your fingers for me that he proposes soon ;)

First off, this is not a coaxed or solicited review!
We never knew about Barsky Diamonds except for the sign on Sansom and a couple friends telling us we should check them out.
The experience was truly a joy. Nate Barsky treated us like family friends, and his expertise made what could have been a daunting task, completely manageable.
I think we've found a lifetime jewelry store. Marybeth gets more compliments on the unique yellow diamond with pink sapphires than she even imagined. There's a good reason why they've been at the same location as long as they have. Trust them!

For our 25th Wedding Anniversary my husband surprised me with a trip to Jewelers Row to shop for a special Diamond Ring. After going to the largest, most advertised stores and not feeling as excited as we were when we started out, we happened into Barsky Diamonds, we were greeted by a friendly salesman (Rick) we told him we wre looking for a special diamond for our anniversary, he very informative, friendly, and a complete pleasure to work with,
He informed usthat he did not work on commision ( which is why we did not feel pressured at all ) he showed us a beautiful 2.50 ct diamond and helped me choose the perfect setting, we were able to leave with it that same day,and while waiting we met several members of the Barsky family. I will recommend Barsky Diamonds to everyone I know, I will never go anywhere else to purchase jewelry.PS You'll never see a bigger selection of beautiful jewelry anywhere!!!
Not long ago my husband went to Barsky's for a tenth wedding anniversary present. Nate, as usual, provided superb customer service, helping my husband pick out the most beautiful 10 carat tennis bracelet! Given the amount of money such an item costs, my husband did due diligence and compared what Barsky's was offering to that of other retailers - and confirmed what we already knew from past experience in dealing with this jeweler - that is, that NOBODY undersells Barsky's or does a better job at ensuring we are thrilled with our purchase! We have always enjoyed working with their staff and will continue to do so for a long time to come, I am sure.

Where do I start? I have been married for a year and a half. Twice already my wedding band (pave style and purchased at Barsky's in October 2008) has lost diamonds. TWICE. Meanwhile, my engagement ring which is also pave style but bought from a reputable diamond store and in early 2007 has never once, I repeat, NEVER lost a diamond or ""been banged up by me."" On my second trip to Barsky's to have my ring fixed yet again, I was told by the woman in the back (fixing department - it was awfully busy back there) that I had lost the diamonds and that I had banged up my ring. She also explained that a woman is not to wear her rings all the time! WHAT???? Yes, you read correctly, ladies, according to Barsky's employees...you are not to wear your wedding rings all the time. I could only assume then that Barsky's diamonds are only to be worn very little because they are crap. When the woman AGAIN blamed me for the missing diamonds (two on each side) and the banged up setting, I showed her my engagement ring, told her it was purchased at another store, also told her that it had been on my finger EVERY...SINGLE...DAY since it was given to me and never once has it lost a diamond let alone two and let alone again twice nor has it been ""banged up"". I took it off my finger so that she could look at the engagement ring up close. I asked her why if I have been wearing that longer I hadn't banged that one up and lost a total of three diamonds from it? She simply replied, ""I will fix it just this one last time, then you are on your own."" Well, after it was fixed and I was walking out of the store, I looked down at the ring in the natural sunlight....only to reveal an even more noticable flaw and an absolute absurdity. They stuffed each missing diamond whole with something dark gray and squeezed the setting so hard to keep both of the gray things (diamonds????) in that now the entire ring looks like it's been run over by a MAC truck. It is sooo awful and such a shame that Barsky's suck. Never never never again.
p.s. - Don't forget, if you buy a ring from Barsky's: you will totally regret it, you will waste your money, AND according to the lady working there: you are also not supposed to wear it all the time! Most bizarre thing I have ever heard from a jewelry company.
p.s.s. - I brought the wedding band to a reputable jewelry store. The designer/owner was SHOCKED to see how Barsky's had ""fixed"" their mess. It was a joke!

My fiancee and I recently purchased an engagement ring at Barsky Diamonds. We had never been to Sansom Street as we are not local to Philadelphia. We approached our day trip eager to find a quality ring, but not willing to buy unless we felt 100% confident with the purchase/experience. After checking out numerous places, we entered Barsky Diamonds where we met Nathan Barksy. He was friendly, professional and offered a ""no pressure"" approach when showing us items of interest. This was such a breath of fresh air after having been in other well known stores where the ""what will it take for you to buy this today"" tactics were grueling. After spending nearly 2 hours with Nathan Barsky, we purchased a gorgeous princess cut diamond mounted in a unique18k setting. We left very happy with with our purchase. Unfortunately, a few days later, we noticed that the corner of the stone had a small chip near the prong. Since I had not worn the ring yet, we assumed this happened during mounting. We returned to see Nathan Barsky, obviously upset that our lovely stone was slightly damaged. Nathan handled the situation with professionalism, courtesy and in manner truly reflective of customer satisfaction. He immediately apologized, examined the stone and agreed that the chip must have happened during mounting as stones are under extreme pressure. He quickly offered to make things right by allowing us the choice of having the original stone recut or selecting another stone. Mr. Barsky offered to replace the original stone with one of the same carat weight, but of better quality in both color and clarity. He was a perfect gentleman and was clearly more concerned with our satisfaction than with his profit. I cannot speak highly enough of how Mr. Barsky chose to react to this situation. Many other jewelers would not have acted in the same manner and would not have as readily taken responsibility. At that moment I was so thankful that we had chosen to purchase from Barsky Diamonds. For those of you who fear the few negative reviews of this family owned business, please don't. I'm certain that things such as loose stones, chips, etc. happen from time to time in ALL jewelry stores, but I'm not so certain that all stores would handle those situations with the same level of integrity and class. We do not hesitate to recommend Barsky Jewelers.

My boyfriend and I had been searching high and low for the perfect engagement setting. We finally drove up to Philly from Baltimore one day and found it at Barsky's. It was PERFECT. We couldn't afford to purchase it that day so we wrote down the stock number and decided to come back at another time. In the meantime, my boyfriend called them a week later, had them put the setting aside and even put a deposit on it. When he went back this weekend to purchase it, he found out that they had sold it!!! On top of all this, the setting was a very good price, right in our budget. They told him that they could possibly make the setting again, but that since Platinum prices have gone up, they might not be able to honor the price we had been quoted. I am absolutely irate with them for doing this to us. I can't believe that a company who has been in business for 100+ years (so they tell everyone) would treat one of its customers this way. It's unbelievable. We are now back to square one and having to continue our search for another perfect setting. I'm so upset. So if you plan on putting a deposit on something and going back for it at a later time, you might want to think twice. Thanks a lot Barsky. You guys suck.
I highly recommend Barsky Diamonds to anyone looking to get married, They have exceptional high-end service and quality merchandise. I actually compared them to Steven Singer and other competitors while I was shopping for an engagement ring and they gave me the best service, best ring, for the best price. I am highly satisfied. A+++++

I've gone though two engagment rings from Barksy's. in just 4 months. Both left the store with loose diamonds, uneven prongs, and poor quality. I have had to make several trips to the store to return defected merchandise, only to have them deny anything was wrong with the ring (it was completely missing a prong after only wearing it for 1 week!) even after another jeweler in my hometown said it was cleary defected. In fact, the salesman at Barsky's said they would put it back out in the case to resell it! They completely scammed us, and I can only imagine how many other people they have scammed over the years. Men, if you want to buy your ladies engagement rings that really do last forever, then don't go to Barsky's. It won't last past three weeks.

I bought my wife's engagment ring at Barsky after searching Jeweler's Row for weeks. I had been looking in the window when Mr. Barsky happened to arrive to the store and stopped to say hello. After asking me a few questions, he invited me in to have a look at a few things. I figured he was going to try to make a sale, and wasn't too anxious to follow him, but I was surprised at how much time he gave me, and how committed he was to finding the exact ring I wanted. He was so helpful and professional, and he worked with me on price so much that I was thrilled with the ring. Money was never an issue. I told him my price range (which wasn't very high) and he worked with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted for my money. And my wife loved it. She still loves it.
When we needed to get wedding bands, Barsky was our first stop. Now let me say, I didn't spend $20,000 on the engagement ring, so I didn't think he'd remember me. He did. He again treated me with gentle respect and went out of his way to make sure I got what we wanted. I had a destination wedding quickly approaching, and there wasn't enough time to have exactly what I wanted made. He didn't try to talk me into to something he had at the store. Instead, he gave me a loaner. He actually gave me a diamond-studded wedding band, that he altered with filagree to match the ring I ordered, on loan until the ring I wanted could be made. I have never experienced this kind of customer service. The craftsmanship of all of the rings are amazing, and everyone makes mention of their uniqueness and antique look.
I can't say enough about how well I was treated by, and how far my money went in working with Mr. Barsky and his friendly, professional staff. Getting engaged and married were serious decisions for me and the pressures they being were eased greatly by the treatment and respect I received.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

My husband bought my engagement ring there and the service was great.
They were very nice and did not discriminate against the fact that we were on a tight budget.
We also bought our wedding bands there. Everything was ready on time and looked perfect.
Whenever I am in the area I stop in and they clean my rings for free while I wait.
I would definitely reccommend Barsky Jewelers. We shopped around quite a bit, but we were not able to find a better deal.

I visited Barsky today and was treated in a condescending manner once I revealed I was looking to spend *only* $5,000. I thought this funny since the salesman was wearing an ill-fitting suit with black sneakers. Yes, sneakers. This salesman was also extremely pushy, resulting in an unprofessional manner. Also, it's terrific that the store has been around for 106 years, but I don't need to have it shoved down my throat. When a salesman walked me over to meet the ""grandfather,"" the grandfather merely shook his head no. I've visited six jewelry stores so far in search of an engagement ring, and this was my worst experience.

I walked along jeweler's row and looked in windows shopping for an Engagement Ring. I was taken inside and introduced to one of their buyers. He couldn't have made the process any easier. I wanted the PERFECT ring because I only want to do this once, and he took the time to make sure I was happy. I must have looked at 20 different bands, not to mention the loose diamonds he showed me that were exactly what I wanted. Mr. Barsky, himself, even came over and talked to me while I was waiting on paperwork to finish up. They even set my one of a kind ring that day, complete with our initials engraved!! A stressless experience, and I couldn't be happier with the final product.
