Fairfield, IA5.0 star ratingUpdate - 9/18/2012 I want to tell you about an amazing hair care professional. His name is Daniel Citro and he is extremely knowledgeable about hair. His talent really shines when giving a haircut. I am very picky about my hair. I first met Daniel in Princeton NJ. I was referred to him by a skin care specialist who trained and worked in NYC. When I called to make an appointment with him (after going to him twice) I discovered he had left. I made a concerted effort to track him down. I found him at the Adolf Biecker Salon in Philadelphia. When he gives a haircut, my hair looks good without having to use a curling iron, etc. I can blow it dry and it looks great. I have shoulder length plus hair. After he cuts it, when I pull it back, it looks full and even. I can not say that about cuts from some other people I have encountered. I currently live in the Midwest. I wait to get my hair cut when I travel East. If I need to, I just have it trimmed until I can make an appointment with him. Just describe to him what you would like. He will make every effort to accommodate your wishes, but will give you his opinion. I have learned a great deal about caring for and styling my hair by listening to him. Daniel has trained in Italy and has worked and (I believe) trained in New York also. In my opinion, he is highly respected in his profession. If you are looking for someone to give you a truly great haircut, book an appointment with Daniel. Just do it! You won't be sorry. Enjoy! If you are in a hurry and choose the valet parking, they validate your ticket for a 25% discount.

I wrote my origional review in 2011 when I just started seeing Bruce. Three years later, my hair has never looked better! The color looks amazing …
Great salon, I haven't been in a while but when I do go it's always fun. It's a good atmosphere everyone is friendly and the shop is beautiful and up to date as far as decor. The shop is ran by mother and daughter and they're beautiful ppl inside and out. The hair and styling that they do is superb. The price is the same as any other salon I suppose. Depending on what you get, the prices can be a little high but I think it's worth it. They can do it all at this shop sew-ins to locs and braids to coloring, but I personally feel their best is with short hair styles and coloring. I don't think any shop in Philadelphia can compare to them when it comes to short cuts and coloring. They also offer you wine while your getting your hair done and that's pretty cool. The ONLY issue I have is the wait, there has been times I got in at 10am and left at 5-5:30pm. So make sure you ask how many clients are before you, and if they're busy the day your getting your hair done. Other than that I definitely recommend onjaez shades of color to anyone that's interested in trying the salon, nice humble down to earth women who enjoy making you look beautiful. Also I forgot to add they're very knowledgeable about hair care. My questions about my hair and how I should take care of it was always answered.
I've been going to this salon for three years. I was always insecure about my natural hair but I had a coworker that had services from the salon and she said nothing but nice things . So one day I decided to call and make an appointment I asked for the first available and the receptionist (Malika) gave me an appt with Jasmine when I arrived I was greeted by the entire staff Jasmine came over and did a consultation with me I filled out a form and the shampoo girl came and directed me back to the bowel she washed my hair like no other lol Jasmine then asked me how I wanted it I told her my forehead is huge lol and I'd like to kind of hide it when she turned me around I could've cried like seriously I never thought I'd ever like myself with my natural hair but Jasmine she bought that beauty alive and I've been a loyal customer since I refuse to let another stylist touch my hair she knows what I want when I walk in the door ! Always professional & care about my plans for the day so she gets me in and out ! Love Illuminations , their family !
This salon is quaint, decorative, and cozy... It's personal and intimate. I especially love the black & white old school photos that dress the walls. You really feel like your are getting a one on one experience without 100 set of eyes staring at you! It's located off the beaten path just the way I like it. Parking is easy too. April Talotta is my hairdresser. I HIGHLY recommend her. Trust me, you WILL NOT be disappointed. She is one VERY TALENTED stylist and KNOWS her stuff. April is TRULY one of the BEST in her industry. Her prices are reasonable but the end result is even better. I live about 30 minutes from the salon however, I will drive for hours just for her to do my hair. I am very meticulous with my hair. I have been to many many different stylist over the years, from the best to worst and somewhere in between. I KNOW an excellent hairdresser when I have one, and I certainly have one! - She is my hairdresser for life!
Excellent place and very professional. Madelyn (middle chair) and her business partner Deborah (first chair) own the shop. Estelle (third chair) is also one of the hairdressers. They all do understand some English and are very nice. They are very quick, efficient and all about making sure the customers is happy. They only take appointments for sew in weaves other than that first come first serve. They accept MasterCard, Visa and Debit cards as well as cash no AMEX! You can park on the street but it is metered parking. Mon, Tues, Wed - Free Deep Conditioning and Trim with either Roller Set or Blow Dry (for permanent hair) and on Thurs and Fri - Free eyebrows w/any hairdo over $25. All prices are reasonable. They speak Spanish but I have an app for translation on my phone from English to Spanish so if there is a question of something I want I use the app just to clarify.
This salon happens to be very close to my house, so I gave it a try. I've now been twice within the past 2 months and got very different results. I have natural hair, and the first time I went for a blow out and trim. The service was quick and the results were amazing, and my curls began to bounce back as soon as the water hit it. I returned last week for a deep condition and blow out. The results were even better than the first, and I was able to keep it completely straight with NO frizz for a whole week. The problem came after I washed my hair, my curls were gone! I washed and deep conditioned my hair several times and it is still stringy and straight. I don't know what they put in that deep conditioner, but as someone who just wanted a different style for a few days, I'm very disappointed in the results, and I will not be returning.
I have been braiding my hair with Mathilda Hair Braiding Salon for six years and it’s worthy for me. What amazing personality she has: She welcomes her clients with smile, listens to their needs, always makes sure that her braiders are at top and mostly even she is busy, she will finish the head by herself. She’s calm and provides the most entertained shop in south Philly. This is the place we feel as home because it’s cleaned; I can tell you this lady is nice. Here you relax, watch movies: Africans or Americans, watch her styles show mixed with great music and videos, watch TV news, shows or movies, listen to variety of music. So why should I look for another shop? Here's the place to be! And I have so far rated Matilda’s Braiding as five stars shop for my experiences. Besides, the price is subject to only the length, and style.
I am sooo glad I found this salon and Nyesha! She truly cares about her clients and the health of their hair. Not like most other sytlists Nyesha "listens" to what her clients want and she always strives to exceed your expectations. She will work with you until you are completely satisfied. She is also very professional and accommodating. Not to mention Nyesha is also very sweet! I transitioned from perm to natural hair and I looove the health of my hair as well as my styles and color!!! I used to go to a salon where I had to come home and redo my hair...but with Nyesha I can go right out straight from the chair!! I also love the atmosphere of the shop!! And Jazzmine does great hair and colors as well!!! Both the products and service are DA BOMB!! If you need a change and strive for excellence....check out Illuminations!!!!! :-)
I went to Matildas after looking at her web page and reviews. I must say the staff is very nice. I asked for small senegalese twist so the middle wouldn't be parted extra big. Okay they were extra big. I went back 3 days later and she fixed the middle with no problem. I explained and showed her how 80% of my twist were crooked and didn't look right. They were not neat and straight. The woman who did my hair said it wasn't nothing wrong with them and when she told the other employees they just didn't say anything. I'm walking around with all these crooked twist in my hair because i can't afford to take them out and go somewhere else. There was no need to argue about it even the new ones she put in are crooked. Matilda is very nice but I would never go back there and i don't recommend anyone to go there not for senegalese twist.
Ladies, do not be fooled by the men flocking to Jim, the Barber, this is an awesome place for us too!My boyfriend has been going to Jim for years, this weekend I finally decided to give them a try, and I'm glad I did!I just recently went for a cut/color, and Alexis was my stylist. This is a family run business, so no surprise she is related to the beloved Jim. However, her training and background is in a Salon in Center City, and she brings the "A" game!I am a natural dirty blonde, and she was able to give me the red and strawberry blonde color I loved and even was able to do a side-swept bang so perfectly. No "skunk-striping" color either, she layered the colors and took her time to get it looking completely natural. The pricing was also not bad, and for that quality, I will definitely be back!
