Sophia's deserves 5 stars but there are two reasons why it doesn't have it. First let me give you some background on my hair.....I am an African American female with jet black hair...very thick..and NO PERM! Please keep that in mind when reading this review. Sophia's is run by Danielle, it used to be run by her mother...Sophia...but she's recently retired. The shop is beautiful! For it to be in that area of West Philly...you wouldn't expect it to look like that which is great. If you want the whole beauty salon experience for a decent price...this is the place for you. The staff is very professional...the typical gossip salon image...NOT here. They do have a receiptionist who is very friendly and welcomes you when you walk in, and also offers you tea or coffee (if it's in the morning). My stylist at Sophia's is Danielle...who is wonderful. The only "problem" with Danielle is that EVERYONE loves her so expect to wait if you're not the 1st person at the shop when it opens. She can't help it though...she's just that good. There is another stylist there, Ebony...I've heard she's good as well but I personally have never gotten my hair done by her. I haven't come across ANYONE who can do my hair as well as Danielle does. Because my hair is so thick and she knows to use a straightening comb for my roots. YES PEOPLE...A STRAIGHTENING COMB. She also uses a Chi flat irons...which make me look like I have a perm I SWEAR! Danielle uses very good products as well on my hair which help it to grow. Now I'm second guessing posting this review because I don't want anyone to know about Sophia's!!! lol. Anyways, what prompted me to write this review was going to other salons (one I JUST came from in Harlem, Sho Nuff, review coming soon) and NOT being completely or nearly as satisfied as when Danielle does my hair. Like I said before...no one can do my hair like she can. The ONLY two reasons why Sophia's doesn't have 5 stars is because...1. Danielle charges $45 for a wash and curl...(not a big fan of the price, even though its worth it...I just wish I could get my hair done more often) and 2. The wait time even if you have an appointment. But besides that...the place is wonderful!
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE BAD EXPERIENCE THAT YOU HAD AT ILLUMINATIONS HAIR SALON. I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER OF ILLUMINATIONS FOR 2 YEARS AND QUIET FRANKLY I LUV GOING THEIR. TO ME IT IS NOT THAT BAD AS FAR AS THE WAIT. I AM USED TO WAITING FOR EVERYTHING NOW THAT WE ARE IN A NEW MELLINIUM WHERE EVERYTHING IS A WAITING PROCESS. THE PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE OF TODAY IS THAT THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY MAKES PEOPLE FEEL THAT A HUMAN IS A ROBOT AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO MOVE AT THE FASTEST PACE. I CAN'T DEFEND THE RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER THAT THE STYLIST AND THE ASSISTANCE PRESENTED OF THEMSELVES. THE ONE THING THAT I CAN SAY IS THAT I ENJOY GOING TO ILLUMINATIONS TO GET MY HAIR DONE. MY HAIR LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND IT ALWAYS HAS A SHINE WHEN I LEAVE. I ALWAYS GET COMPLIMENTS AND I RECOMMEND THIS SALON WHEREVER I GO. I HAVE NEVER HAD A STYLIST OR AN ASSISTANT TREAT ME IN A RUDE OR UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER SINCE I HAVE BEEN GOING THEIR. I AM SORRY THAT ALL OF YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE. I ADVISE THAT YOU GIVE ILLUMINATIONS A CALL AND ASK TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER AND TELL HER YOUR EXPERIENCE. SHE IS A VERY GOOD LISTENER AND I KNOW SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE YOUR NEXT EXPERIENCE TO ILLUMINATIONS BETTER THAN THE FIRST. GIVE THEM A SECOND CHANCE EVERYONE DESERVES ONE. WE AS FELLOW AMERICANS NEED TO HAVE MORE COMMUNICATION WITH ONE ANOTHER TO MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE. THIS IS WHAT OBAMA THE PRESIDENT ELECT IS STRIVING FOR CHANGE. SO TAKE MY ADVICE BY TALKNG TO THE MANAGER AND YOU WILL SEE A CHANGE THE NEXT TIME YOU GO THEIR.
I was extremely lucky to find this place. It truly is a hidden gem. I have done tons and tons of research into all types of lasers and hair removal procedures. It took me over a year of calling and visiting various places before I felt comfortable with getting the procedure done. Once I finally got the nerve to do this, I came across a promotion that was being run on LIvingSocial.com and decided to give it a try. Before I purchased the deal I decided to call Silver Apple Medical Spa to get some more information and the young lady who answered the phone was so polite and friendly. No matter how many questions I had she never seemed to be aggravated or annoyed, since I have never done this type of procedure before. By the time I got off the phone I felt much more secure about my decision and my service treatment that I bought. When it was time for my appointment I was greeted by a friendly staff and the Doctor took her time in reviewing everything with me again even more thoroughly. She is very knowledgable and has a ton of experience working with many skin types. The package that I purchased was an extreme, extreme discount for 6 Laser Hair Removal sessions. The sessions went so great that I decided to purchase even more services from Silver Apple Medical Spa (ie. laser hair removal and chemical peel). Absolutely no pain and hassle free. Thanks for making this an awesome experience for me. I will DEFINITELY be coming back! SAMSpa your the best!
I have been having a problem with my hair, so I stopped getting relaxers. Many salons don't know what to do with hair that is not relaxed, but I was recommended to Tracey when she worked in Center City, now I go to her at Back to Reality and my hair looks and feels great! I have been out of a relaxer for three years now, and my hair has never looked so healthy. I love the Bonacure Smooth Control, it really keeps my hair smooth and straight. Many people do not believe that I don't have a relaxer, that's how well Tracey takes care of my hair. I love the shop, even though it's smaller than the Center City salon Tracey used to work in, it has a very nice atmosphere, and it feels like home. The ladies there are very professional, and they know about hair care. It's in a great location, the salon is not far from Center City, and there is plenty of free parking, which I love, because there is no free parking in Center city. I just got hair color recently and I love it! They use really good products there, and the next thing I'm going to try is the Simply smooth Brazilian Keratin Treatment, because I sweat a lot in the summer. I have seen the results of the treatment in the salon, and the hair just looks and feels beautiful, and it's straight without having any chemicals in it. I can't wait to try this product. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone who is looking for a hairstylist who is into hair care.
This review is for a Revival Facial with Vitamin C Peel from Mylynn Nguygen. (I mention her by name only because my friend also received the *same* treatment from Porche, however, when comparing notes, we actually had completely different experiences.) I cannot say enough about the facial that I received from Mylynn. She was thorough, exacting, but gentle with her extractions. She spent an inordinate amount of time detoxifying my skin of all its impurities. (My friend did not get any extractions whatsoever.) Mylynn also gave me a deep tissue massage to my neck, arms, and shoulders. (Porche only provided a light touch.) Mylynn slathered my hands in oils and warmed them in gloves (Porche did not offer this service to my friend.) Mylynn offered sage advice about what to expect (a darkening of the skin and then a sloughing period). She also recommended that I use a generous application of both sunscreen and moisturizer. She then offered a small sample of vitamin C lotion. (Porche did not mention any of these things nor offer the said lotion.) As far as our notes compare, the only similarity was the actual vitamin C peel. Normally I would feel that $140 (but $110 with an online discount) would be a bit on the high for a facial -- but with Mylynn, it was worth every penny! Both my friend and I are already planning to specifically request Mylynn for our next appointments.
Great salon, I haven't been in a while but when I do go it's always fun. It's a good atmosphere everyone is friendly and the shop is beautiful and up to date as far as decor. The shop is ran by mother and daughter and they're beautiful ppl inside and out. The hair and styling that they do is superb. The price is the same as any other salon I suppose. Depending on what you get, the prices can be a little high but I think it's worth it. They can do it all at this shop sew-ins to locs and braids to coloring, but I personally feel their best is with short hair styles and coloring. I don't think any shop in Philadelphia can compare to them when it comes to short cuts and coloring. They also offer you wine while your getting your hair done and that's pretty cool. The ONLY issue I have is the wait, there has been times I got in at 10am and left at 5-5:30pm. So make sure you ask how many clients are before you, and if they're busy the day your getting your hair done. Other than that I definitely recommend onjaez shades of color to anyone that's interested in trying the salon, nice humble down to earth women who enjoy making you look beautiful. Also I forgot to add they're very knowledgeable about hair care. My questions about my hair and how I should take care of it was always answered.
Joseph Lentini is AWESOME!!! I wish I had found this curly hair stylist extraordinaire 20 years ago; it would’ve saved me a HUGE amount of angst over my hair! I have tight curly hair that I have abused for over 40 years until a hair stylist suggested that I let it go natural. I used to never go to a salon because I could never trust anyone to cut my hair, let alone style it. After having read all these reviews and testimonials to Joseph, I made an appointment for myself last weekend. I walked in with my hair hanging down, curling and kinking every which way in the classic “Wedge Style” it seems to have formed in the past couple of years. Joseph evaluated it and sat me down in his chair. Over the next 1 ½ hours he worked his magic on my hair, carefully considering every lock in his hands. When he was done, I was walking out of his salon with “Magazine Ad” hair – you know, the type of hair you see in a magazine ad and wished you had? Well, I HAD IT! It was GORGEOUS!! Instead of my curls hanging down, they bounced. I was on Cloud 9!! I even went across the street to buy a bunch of daisies because I was so ecstatic to find someone who truly understands and knows how to cut curly hair!! JOSEPH IS MY MAN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!
2 month ago I joined Enigma Weight Loss Center. At that time I was 268 pound. The first month I was going to the Center 3 times a week and was having different weight loss procedures, which actually helped me to lose 23 pounds the first month. Medical weight loss consultant together with Bariatric Medical Doctor had designed for me the program for 3 months. At this point I visit the Center once a week and I weight 229 pounds. I still have another month on the program before I reach a maintenance level. The best about the program is that you are under Doctor's supervision, you get multiple procedures weekly, the program is so cheap that you would not even believe it, the staff cares about you and always there to help. I have tried different weight loss programs before including meal replacement, medication, personal trainer, Weight Watcher's program, but none of them can even be compared with Enigma Weight Loss Program. If you really struggle with your weight and want to lose with healthy approach, without specific diet than Enigma Weight Loss is for you. I highly recommend this place, they will help you to gain self confidence, they will help you to lose weight & contour your body and start a new life!
WOW. I will write it again...WOW. I had slacked on my hair for three years so it looked pretty awful. I had my natural brown color on half of my head which turned into a brassy red on the bottom half...no structure, split ends galore. I was ready for a big change. BLOND with highlights and a razor cut and bangs (NEVER had highlights before). After mulling over where and who to go to for ages, I finally booked an appt. here with Whitney (upon the rec. of a friend who Whitney has also taken from light to dark and back again). All I can say is she performed a miracle on my hair. It came out 100 percent how I wanted it which I consider a miracle considering I was getting so many different things done. From the cut to the color, she absolutely nailed it. We were on the same page about everything. Plus, she is a total sweetheart and totally knowledgable about what she is doing. I looked and felt like a different person when I left and although the process took over 4 hours, it went by super fast. I told her she has a new client for life. I really cannot say enough good things about Whitney and the salon. And the price...about $150 LESS than I thought it was gonna be.
I have tried many salons over the years and when I was referred to Back To Reality I was a little hesitant because of my past experiences. It took me two years and 5 hair salons from the time I was told to go and see Tracey. I am so pleased with the way my hair has grown and the healthiness of it. In the past I have had stylist that over charged for store bought products and poor service; this salon is truly on some other, Ms. Debbie, Shante and Tracey are true professionals they know about hair care and what products to suggest for your hair and they are not in the retail business they are in the hair care business and that is what i appreciate. I came to Tracey with a perm that was to strong for my hair type and I can now say I am perm free and my hair is so healthy because she knew my fine hair was being damaged from constant perming; but when she finishes my hair it looks as though I have a perm and it last until my next visit and I get so many compliment. If you are looking for a salon that is about hair care and making you look fabulous; Back To Reality is where you need to visit and once you do you will never leave.
